One of my new players is playing a brash young gadgeteer. She is new to Hero and needs a little help with a gadget VPP. We have set aside 25 pts +5 control cost. All gadgets will have OAF and a 15- activation. Anyone care to bust out some weird science?

http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap081001.html OK, so it's from the 1950's and (supposedly) post-Pulp, but it's just too cool not to bring to everyone's attention. Seriously, doesn't that picture look like something from a cheap-a** movie? Oh, and for more pulp-ish goodness, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V2_rocket#Unfulfilled_plans and read the second paragraph. Doesn't that just BEG for a gaming scenario?!?

With a film based on Solomon Kane in the works I was wondering what people thought of Pulpish adventure which isn't actually set in the 20s and 30s? While there's not much hope of dogfights or zeppelin-dwelling master criminals in a game set in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries these were times of exploration and high adventure. Strange new worlds, pirates, wars and plenty of brawling heroes and insidious villains. I suppose this would be Swashbuckling Hero if anything.

Starting a Rocketship Empires 1936 one-shot tomorrow, to see if my players like the concept. It's outer-space pulp, based on a roughly WWII technological facade over Martian biotechnology. So, naturally, our characters will start out in a bar. However, they're pre-cooked and already know each other, being crew on a tramp "freighter" which is more like a light gunship. More to come.

After some time, our group is once again going to do Pulp HERO, but this time I'm not the GM. Our friend Jason is running it at his sister's place with me, Don and Aaron (from the last game) also participating. Jason is a little bit of a killer GM. He is also, shall I say, not politically correct. He did specify that characters who take Disads like "Woman" or "Minority" would be fully penalized for them. Of course, the fact that this is the Pulp era means that such Disads are feasible in game terms, and worth points. And since we were only allowed 25 points per Disadvantage category, we had to scrounge. So the results are consistent mainly in being oddball. …

Jack Emmert of Cryptic posted on the CO site about, among other things, a forthcoming pulp supers mini game - Pulp City. The minis certainly look awesome. Anyone get to eyeball these in person at GenCon?

The Master Plan: Himmler’s Scholars and the Holocaust by Heather Pringle A "fascinating volume detailing the Nazis' crackpot theories about prehistory and the Indiana Jones–style lengths they went to prove them. Employing a team of researchers, Pringle investigates Heinrich Himmler's private think tank, the Ahnenerbe, which dispatched scholars to the most inhospitable and distant parts of the world to discover evidence of ancient Aryan conquests and the Germans' racial superiority." (Publisher's Weekly) It's chock full of ideas for Nazi "Raiders of the Lost Ark"-type adventures; and shows how crazy some of Himmler's ideas really were. Hitler was surprisingly ske…

Hey guys, I'd never played Heroes until this week at Gencon and it was awesome. I've bought a lot of material, and a few friends and I are going to take turns running one-shot adventures to just learn what we're doing. Are there any good resources for adventures on the 'net? I've already queued about 10 movies on Netflix that are in the Pulp Hero genre to get me some ideas, etc... I just want to see if you guys have any ideas. Indiana Jones, the Mummy, etc. That kinda stuff sounds awesome. Either way, this looks like an awesome community. Solaron

While prowling through one of the two comic shops that I know of in the Sydney CBD I stumbled over a swag of "DC" "Doc Savage" comics from 1990. Fun to look at . I hadn't read any of the Doc Savage comics from that era (just a few of the "Dark Horse" ones, which I enjoyed) and the "Air Lord" saga (Built in part around the destruction of the airship "Hindenberg") was good. When I go back into the city on thursday i'll have to see if they have any more issues available. I MAY have got the last six issues of the series (19 to 24) but I don't know enough about the history of these comics to be sure.

Just saw the film. Much pulpy goodness, a full day's supply of fiber. The movie takes place in 1946 but the movie still has a very pulpy feel to it. Great movie (IMHO). I enjoyed the chases (several good ones) and some great gunfights. The end battle was well done. A very fun movie and for PulpHero GM's out there, a great source of inspiration, and possible plots.

Since were on an Indy kick right now, does anybody know what model pistol Indiana carries in Raiders of the Lost Ark? It looks like a British revolver but I could be wrong.

Over in quote of the week, they mention her, an under-age Cat-Girl Librarian, from a pulp campaign. How intriguing. What are her salient skills? her disads ? Would a cat-girl be immune to De Vermis Mysteris ?

Hey everyone. I’m new so I’m not sure if this has been asked before. (I looked). My group and I have wanted to start a Fantasy Hero’s game however we can’t find the book. We do not want to buy the PDF and would like to own a few hard copies of it, however, the book store here does not have it (paperback) and Amazon is selling the book for almost $100. Is the book gone?
