It is more like the Duke of Edinburgh for the late Queen. You are a representative of the monarchy, of the monarch. Because of her age succession is not an issue, William and his children are the direct line. Camilla would be like the Queen Mother was if Charles suddenly died.

Some will never accept her due to their adoration of Diana.

Camilla does have a title, she is "Her Majesty The Queen". Sher authority is through Charles as rightful king.
