  1. In my experience FAE has no shtick preservation at all, everyone can do everything and 80%+ of the time they can do it with their best or second best Approach (or whatever it's called). I've seen convention games where players spend more time justifying their approach/attribute choice than they spend actually doing anything. At least Fate Core has a broader set of skills so there's not nearly as much overlap. Your house rule seems to negate the entire purpose of playing FAE, why not just play real Fate and make use its "granularity". (Huh, never thought in a million years I would refer to Fate as "granular", but compared to Accelerated...).
  2. They just announced that Hero Games joined Double Exposure's Envoy program which does just that.
  3. You could post those to the free stuff download section now that that's a thing.
  4. Here's a link to the thread that has Ndeare's adventures' links.
  5. I almost started a thread to ask this same question, but searched first and found this one. Thanks for the page reference.
  6. Our GM has run several games where we worked for an organization called AEGIS, usually dealing with extraterrestrial threats (one game ended up being related to Doctor Who/Torchwood related). I'm pretty sure he stole the name from a game or book series, not directly from Greek Mythology.
  7. This depends on a lot of things. What races you want available to the players may influence your choice (or what races you want to be the villains, if all Orcs are "evil" you probably don't want the campaign near Thordar and the civilized Orcs). If you want to avoid as much work as possible by using the setting mostly "as is" you can choose a country that is currently in, or soon to be in, conflict with a neighbor that you feel is "in the wrong". If your ultimate goal is for this elite team to go beat Kal-Turak himself you could start pretty much anywhere depending on how much traveling and diplomacy you want to deal with along the way. I'm just reading through the book myself now, but someplace in the Westerlands seems like a good bet. You have several nations getting ready to make a power/land grab, every major race is available (although some of the lesser races might not be), a nation of Trolls, a nation of Drakine, the largest Elven nation, plus sea and lake focused nations and human barbarian populations. Most any traditional/"classic" fantasy game could fit in the Westerlands.
  8. I may be remembering incorrectly (I don't have my books with me to check) but I thought each Defense Maneuver was a prerequisite for the next so that you couldn't have Defense Maneuver 4 without 3.
  9. Now the question is did the OP want to require skin contact in addition to an ECV check or instead of an ECV check, in which case just making it No Range would be enough.
  10. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2854617/Cops-shot-12-year-old-Tamir-Rice-dead-holding-BB-gun-did-not-aid-watched-lie-agony-died-just-hours-later.html "Newly-released audio showed that the dispatcher did not pass on this concern to the responding officers" "But in response to questions over her failure to mention the gun could be fake, he said dispatchers had to strike a balance between 'the need to get information to that zone car with the need to give every bit of information that we can'." "He said that the call from the dispatcher was also under investigation."
  11. And that statement is just as wrong in this case. I am not saying that they acted appropriately. I am saying that confirming if the gun is real before drawing their own would be stupid and irresponsible. I'm not saying they did right, in fact I have given specific examples of what they did wrong without falling back on name calling and rhetoric, but claiming, even if they had approached the situation correctly, slowly, and from a distance, that they shouldn't have drawn their weapons at all is simply wrong.
  12. Per the dispatcher actually. I'm still looking for anything that claims they were there for 5 minutes before shooting. I can't find that claim anywhere. It was nearly 5 minutes after the shooting before the boy got medical attention, which is pathetic since the cops should have immediately administered first aid after securing the scene.
  13. I didn't say they did. I said they claimed they did. There is a very big difference. And statements like "cops shouldn't even draw their weapon until they know if someone else has a weapon" is still simply wrong. Pointing that out is not defending these particular cops.
  14. Rose, any idea why the video is edited? There is a time jump around 1:22. That's before the cops show up, but makes me wonder about the integrity of the video in general.
  15. I'd rather play a d20 based game than Fate Accelerated. Fate Core is alright, but FAE is the one of the worst systems I've ever been forced to use.
  16. Why are you asking me? You have the same sources on the internet that I have, and like I said, I am not supporting them.
  17. They claim they yelled "show us your hands". If a cop tells someone to show their hands, and that person reaches for their waistband/pocket that person is going to get shot, especially if the cops were told before hand the person had a gun. Again, I'm not backing the cops in this case, though I think the driver is much more at blame even though he wasn't the one that shot.
  18. I'm not saying the cops did the right thing in that situation. I even specifically condemned the driver for putting the rookie in that situation and the handling of the shooting in general. My point was that saying cops need to determine if a weapon is real (and essentially giving a perp time to point it at them) before drawing their own weapon is absurd beyond all reason.
  19. I was just wondering if there was a reason MMM was not available in PDF format from the store.
  20. I'm reading through The Turakian Age which make reference to the 5E villains/monster book Monsters, Minions, and Marauders. I already have the 6E Bestiary and my understanding is much or most of the generic creatures from MMM made it into that book. My question, for anyone who may own both, is this: does MMM contain anything particularly useful that didn't make it into the 6E Bestiary that would make it worth picking up (specific villains for example)? I am also looking at Nobles, Knights, and Necromancers and wondering how well it fits with The Turakian Age. I know it includes some of Kal-Turak's lieutenants, but are the rest of the characters in NNN equally compatible with TA?
  21. Perhaps it is an old link. Did you consider simply going to the store and looking for it?
  22. Saying they should have determined if the gun was real or not before drawing their own is just naive. It takes less than a second to raise and fire a gun. We don't live in a wild west movie where cops are supposed to survive via their quick draw skills to "out draw" the bad guys. If someone is reported to be armed you aim your weapon at them and then determine if they are really armed. We agree about how close they pulled up, but I blame the officer driving, who was a training officer no less, not the rookie who responded to the position his superior put him
  23. The officer who shot was in training (I hadn't heard that he was fired from a previous law enforcement agency, that may change my perception a bit) and the officer driving was his training officer. His training officer deserves to be fired for putting a rookie in that situation. He pulls up WAY too close to the suspect,so close that if the kid had a real gun he could have drawn it and and shot through the car window before he was able to get out. EDIT: the rookie was right to take cover, even after having taken the shot, that's actually following his training. If his FTO had pulled in appropriately he probably would have had time to take cover first and the kid may not have gotten shot. From a procedural standpoint the driver is more at fault than the shooter and as the ranking officer handled the aftermath pathetically.
  24. That's cool, thanks for the stats and the link. I've never used the Piercing rules from Dark Champions, and I'm not sure if I would want to use his Armor Effect house rule, but it's a good start for building the gun.
