If you have been reading my Ptolus story the party has finally decided to actually help. They are not do-Gooders this is more out of keeping themselves alive so they can go back to a somewhat normal life. I don't want to do the normal, fight the cultists, one minor boss then fight the last boss, ritual stopped. Please send me some ideas as to a different take on how this adventure could play out. They know the location and have a means to get into it. They are not great puzzle solvers, but low level one's could be ok. This isn't a high level magic setting, but it could be used to slow them down. Other then that, what lies below is up to me an…

Doing a one or two shot adventure and I had an idea. Would it work to start the players with 50 points and give them 10 points every 30 minutes to build their characters? Basically they have amnesia so they don’t know who they are? Any other different ideas would help?

Not sure if this should be in Fantasy Hero or not. I am thinking about running the Deadlands Hero style. Anyone ever do any work on this?

Grabbed three new converts by eliminating some of the world building overhead by keeping ALL of the 5e character creation and class rules and simply using HERO to play the game. Kicked off the new Dark Hold campaign where all of the known world was conquered by an invading horde of life eating horrors from the shadow realms. All that remains of humanity is the Dark Hold. A circle of onyx mountains closing off the last villages and cities of mankind. Even there, when the light of day fails, night terrors stalk the lands for human souls. Only the presence of the Shepherds keeps them at bay (think dark elf + slender man). Our band of in…

A player would like to build a power that creates a windstorm around him that makes him and his friends more difficult to hit. I would like this power to have more than one level so he can buy more powerful versions later on. I know that storms can give muscle powered ranged weapons -2 to hit and that would be pretty balanced but change enviroment is insanly costly and since he would like to have this as storm around him and his friends I dont know its worth the cost. Especally since force wall are so much cheaper.

Hello Herodom, I've started to muck about again with Fantasy Hero cause my one son is interested in running a game. (Using FHC). Now Halflings are supposed to get a +2 DCV and +2 Stealth because of size (also because this is an artifact of Shrinking pre 6th.) But I question whether the character needs to pay for it or it should be a Metagame rule. I can see if the game was with 4 halflings and the only other creature was also an evil one however were using Kobolds and Goblins which are also halfling sized. To me (maybe over thinking it) but two people of the same height shouldn’t get a size bonus. Thiughts?

Where do I find something in this example. Big troll warrior learns magic. He decides to learn lightning fist. how is it laid out in hero? He wants to punch and have the magic light go off as well? Does he cast the spell the round prior or does he make two rolls ? How do you see this working?

So I was building some heavy armor for my campaign, and I wanted to make it slow people down by reducing their dexterity by some amount. I wanted to use Side Effect, but Side Effect seems like it's built around being a single, one-off occurrence when a power is activated, as opposed to a constant thing. Is there an official, accepted way of doing this, or should I just wing it? (Note: I'm looking for something in the general case; I realize some of this could probably be accomplished by adding weight to the armor, but what if it's actually cursed and I want to make the armor reduce PRE or INT instead?)

We are using criticals where if you roll your attack skill by 10 you crit. I had someone ask if it would work for magic as well? Is this too powerful? Second question would you allow someone with Nightvision to use a mirror and still get Nightvision. Please answer these as your world and what YOU would do.

There was supposed to be a big fight where the party helped stop the Night of Dissolution in Ptolus. Well as usual the group went in a completely different direction and let it happen. They hid themselves away in a deep mortuary they had found and stocked it with food. Basically it was eight days of complete darkness where the various cults roamed free. At the same time some barbarians were attacking. This was all brought on due to these cults doing rituals. The aftermath was about 30% of the City being destroyed along with the army fighting off the barbarians. The group isn't really do gooders and are all about themselves. They have a few hooks in the …

One of my players is playing a Troll who has a high PRE, but wants to use it for intimidation and bullying people. I am having a hard time trying to figure out how to limit this characteristic. How can it be limited for using skills such as conversation, charm and such (because he admittedly isn't good at these). Is there a specific limit? How would you see this character being limited in those situations.

If you can find the old DRAGON magazines you might like to look these up. Mainly put up as a suggested reading list for the fantasy people here.

This vile collection of gears, springs, bellows, and terrible flame strides toward you on cloven brass hooves. Its war cry is accompanied by a blast of steam and a glare of malice. It is knowledge and technological progress bound up with hate and betrayal. It has inspired steampunk horrors, devastating siege engines, and weapons of mass destruction. It is the bane of tinkers and workers of both intricate brass and unbreakable steel. Cog Demon.pdf Cog Demon.hdc

I tried to print a character today and the color is gone from the sheet. It is also gone from the other exports I have as well. No the printer isn't out of ink, is there something in the export or my browser that could have changed. I am not good at these things so any help would be appreciated.

I am researching feudal Japan in the vain of Legend of the Five Rings type campaign. I was wondering how Honor would be represented in Fantasy Hero. Please give me YOUR thoughts and ideas. I know the interaction skills will be huge. I expect reputation will be big as well. Any thoughts you have from a mechanical or anecdotal perspective will be appreciated.

I am trying to figure out how to represent the 5 Rings from Legend of the Five Rings in Fantasy Hero. The five rings are Air, Earth, Fire, Water and Void. Air represents graceful, cunning and precise personality. They are subtle or layered with nuance. Eloquent, physically and socially deft and shrewed. Earth represents a steady thorough and grounded approach to problems. Cautious and considerate with lack of risk. Physically tough, mentally resilient and reliable. Fire represents a ferocious, direct and inventive personality. There approach is explosive and intense. Passionate, curious, physically quick, brusque and quick learning. Water…

I am new to the Hero world. I am wondering what Hero Designer is. Does this have all of the books and basically a character generator? I don't want to take the deep dive and buy it. Is there an example of it some where I can see it?

I am looking for a group to join that plays online. I have run a couple of games of champions in the past, but I would really like to be able to play fantasy Hero. I can do any edition, although I most prefer 6th. Thanks!

I'm stumbling over how to transition my Danger International campaign from totally mundane sneaking and running and shooting and dying to my Ravenna setting. I want the shock of realization, but not so shocking as encountering an elf or demon. I though about fuzzy security camera footage of a guy killing someone by a lethal finger-gesture. Points, twitches his thumb, and the target drops as if shot with a pistol. The PCs actually find a bullet which doesn't match any ballistics profile. The game takes place in 1985 (the year Danger International is set). I have a print copy of it from back in the day. If the HERO folks read this and want to scan it, I'm down…

Has anyone made or know about any Middle-earth racial or cultural package deals? I did a bunch of MERP conversions for 4th Edition way back when, but I lost my work a long time ago. I never shared my work because it wasn't finished, so it wouldn't show up on the search. I'm okay with any edition even though I prefer 5th Edition; I can convert as necessary. Thanks in advance.

I read that followers cost 1xp = 5 character points. Say I spend 5 xp for a 25 point character. It says for +5 points I can have two followers. Does that mean for 10 points I get two 25 point followers?

Allright. So I chose a pretty big project for myself: to convert Pathfinder/D&D 3.5 material for campaign use in with miniatures. I've got pawns in PDF -form, so the PF bestiary is pretty much covered, going to get more of course when the time comes, but monsters are covered pretty much. I've been studying Killershrikes D&D conversion site for the past couple of days, stuff seems tightly put together and takes every facet of characters into account. I won't be converting any existing characters, so there is a lot more wiggle room for when choosing what the PCs can do in this campaign. I have a couple of issues though: 1. I'd be playing…

A player of mine wants to make a character who follows the Goddess of Luck. He was thinking of pool of say five powers that he can use randomly (he has to roll each time). I was thinking of Aid, bonus to stealth etc. Any ideas (power, talent, perk or skill) to add to a Goddess of Luck following rogue would be great.

Let's say that I'm willing to run very abstract, high concept fantasy games where the players are basically free to build whatever they want, vetted only for internal consistency and party cohesion. What horrible pitfalls am I gonna walk into if I decide to completely remove characteristic maxima? Remember, I'm fine with extremely outlandish concepts, so that isn't gonna be a worry for me. Say we're using 175 points. Can character points alone balance things? Like, if a player could buy any amount of SPD, CV, STR, and P/ED that he wants, how would the arms race unfold? What if somebody were to buy an accidentally relatively low DCV and PD, such that he's extremely vulnera…
