Can someone walk me through how poisons work. I am looking for poisoned weapons and perhaps ingested. Is there a roll against it, I really didn't understand what they were saying on pages 210 in E2 and 201 in Fantasy Hero.

I am making up some races and I need to know how much the following would cost. This is a Fantasy World with a middle of the road magic. Not High Fantasy, but there is magic and people use it. Immune to Fear Complication: Cannot comprehend Magic

How does interrupting spell casting look in Fantasy Hero. I assume a player holds an action and uses the gestures or incantations as a trigger. Does the spell caster automatically lose the spell if hit, is there a combat casting skill etc. Any ideas would be helpful.

I have started a new campaign set in the City of Ptolus (not that important). It is a city with a deep history and background with dungeons below and a more open dynamic. I am not running this as high fantasy more of a dark criminal underground type of campaign. One thing I am introducing is a patron/villain for the group. They have been treading water a little and I had hoped they would run with it and explore and do whatever they wanted. I am introducing a Devil or Half-Devil named Deimos to them. I am not sure if I tell them up front he is a devil. I need to come up with a plot that he wants to accomplish (looking for ideas here). I am g…

I am using the Heroic endurance rules, 5 Active Points for 1 point of endurance. Does Haymaker cost 4 End because it is 4 DC's? Does a Martial Maneuver that does +2d6 also cost 2 more END. What about a talent like Weapon Master that does +3DC does that cost 3 END to use?

I haven't messed with Fantasy Hero since 4e, getting back into the swing of things. So, reading through Fantasy Hero Complete, equipment for characters really isn't touched on. Sure, you can build almost piece of equipment you can imagine. Two things jump out at me, though. First, in-game currencies and wealth aren't touched on at all. While this varies widely between worlds, it seems like one thing a new GM would need is some idea how to price things. At least, it seems like some guidance should exist on starting equipment. Second, there really aren't a lot of ready-to-roll items, particularly armor. Armor in Fantasy Hero Complete consists of a single table with little …

We have been playing this campaign for a bit now, since we can play 2-4 times a week and 5-6 hours per session. So the party has kind of taken over an area and runs a city. They are master traders and run the thieves guild in this kingdom. They also are nephews to the King in the next kingdom and brothers to the kingdom to the North. They wanted to experience some high minded things they don't normally do. This is mostly a mannish world with no demi-humans or monsters per say. They have faced off against a demon once and there is very little magic. They have also faced off against some assassin cults, barbarian kingdoms and demonic cults. What I am look…

So races in fantasy games has come up in several threads (the Turakian Age, and Immersion Ruining thread most notably) So I thought I'd make a thread for talking about them specifically. I'll start with a few questions and provide my own opinions, but feel free to add any thoughts you have about fantasy races in rpgs. 1) What purpose do multiple races have in a rpg? Or alternatively, what should multiple races add to a game if they're done well? 2) Do you prefer multiple races at all in your rpgs? 3) What fantasy race pet peeves do you have? Why? 4) How many is too many? Too few? 5) What do races repr…

I am looking at the cost of spells in the Grimoire 6th edition and I understand that, but specifically I don't understand some options. On page 182 Create Skeleton it costs 9 xp to buy this spell which Creates one Skeleton, but only costs 20 to Create a Skeleton Army? What am I missing? Do they need to be controlled with a spell? I seen there is a spell called Control Undead, but that was a Mind Control. Any help would be appreciated.

I've been away from actively thinking about Hero System for a couple of years, entertaining the idea of GMing something fantasy. Of course I have to consider how to do magic in my world, and I find myself looking at a gazillion oddball ways proposed by many, including in published material, and I am left wondering. Just why are multipowers not the perfect and obvious way to do magic? They seem absolutely perfect to me. Am I missing something?

I am just learning Hero, but I have a lot of Fantasy RPG experience. I read that weapons can only double their DC for damage, does this include CSL and talents like Weaponmaster. I am using 6E if that helps. Thanks in advance.

I know my world better than any player. My argument is this, players supply a character narrative, his life , events, actions, faults, abilities. No mechanics. As GM, I build that character and the conversation continues to hone the player choices until the character build is complete and turned over to the player. Defeat my argument if you can. I cannot build a character creation guide complete enough that Players will not find cracks or make reductive or mechanical constructs that I must tear down and create a more adversarial atmosphere, based solely on what they read vrs. what unknown to them, yet, known to me as GM. This is co…

Hi, Everyone! I just posted some character write-ups for heroes featured in the fantasy RPG game Shining Force for the Sega Genesis console in an exercise of fun nostalgia. I tried to keep the write-ups simple and are intended for new players in the Hero System. Special thanks to Killer Shrike for his package deal write-ups on Centaurs and Dwarves that helped me develop these character conversions. Enjoy! 🙂

Feel free to add, comment, discuss and criticize. A Spell With Multiple Functions Simply put, some spells make sense as Multipowers, perhaps with Unified Power. This is a good concept for Three Secret Symbols of Power, or maybe a spell for controlling large amounts of water. This can work even in magic systems where Multipowers aren't generally used. Magic Systems Were Powers Are Fairly Unified and Simple Basically, if your spells are really more like psychic powers, it might make sense to put most spells in a multipower. If wizards basically just levitate stuff and read minds, and maybe have one or two unique abilities, and their abiliti…

How you manage the damage for surprise attacks. I have never been a fan of the deadly blow that I find close to dnd or pathfinder. A friend suggested that I use Haymaker. What seems to me a good use of the maneuver. The damage is not Limited. A rogue with a dagger, 1d6 Will do 2d6+1 with is haymaker. What do you Think ? Steph

The idea here is to expand on the idea that elves and dwarves dislike each other. In fact we will go so far as to do like in Palladium and have them go to war. The reasons are unimportant as they have been at war for millenia. But in the process they have alienated, antagonised and in many cases decimated most of the races that also exist on the continent. To the extant that five races have banded together to support each other while trying to keep out of the way of the main combatants. So for years uncounted this alliance has set up safe cities, sent parties out to get food and supplies and in some cases, where necesary, kill elements of either army to protect their secre…

This thread is about using the geography of a setting, on its largest scale, to reflect and enhance the theme of a campaign or story. These worlds are often explicitly not naturalistic. I have a few examples, and I wonder if people can think of more. First consider Creation, the setting for the game Exalted. Creation is flat. At the center is the Blessed Isle (though it’s a good-sized continent), with the Elemental Pole of Earth in the middle – the axis of the world that provides stability to all things. Through most of history, the Blessed Isle has ruled the rest of Creation. The current Scarlet Empire still dominates the Threshold, though its power has recen…

Quite some time ago I shared a number of the original maps from the Turakian Age book. Due to RL and other issues I was unable to continue working on them. I am now back to the Turakian Age and have, today, uploaded a colour version of the world map of Ambrethel. I myself have printed this on a decent home printer as a A3 poster and it looks good. It is 1600x1200. I am not the creator of these, but the creator was kind enough to pass on to me the various images/files he had a number of years back so I could use/share them on the HERO forums. I hope to have more converted in time. [Download links for others: Black & White World Map - other map files]

In a D&D campaign I'm in, one of the players is playing a Moon Druid - he gets to 'Wild Shape' (assume different animal forms) which are effectively different combat suits he wears with a free set of hit points each. If the form dies he just has to wait a while (rest) before he rinse-repeats. Our group has been chatting on how you would approximate this in Hero terms. Multiform is balanced in Hero in that any damage taken is proportioned to the form you assume, but this D&D monstrosity doesn't work like that (only if damage carries over past the form's hit points is it a problem to the Druid's main form hit points). I've said that essential…

Has anyone ever tried the Chaos Blades magic in a campaign. It's always intrigued me but I have never tried it. Was wondering how well it worked, if anyone has used it.

I am more interested in comedy revolving around the former fantasy archetype, but quips and jests revolving around the latter are welcome as well. You see, there is going to be a druid NPC in this campaign that I am creating and I so desperately wish to break away - in this instance, anyhow - from the stodgy humorless hermit standby. Druids protect the wilderness against the encroachment of civilization and Rangers are protectors of civilization who battle the encroachment of the wilderness (or, more specifically, the destructive and undeniably evil elements of the wilderness...perhaps simply the sentient/sapient threats that lurk within). Barring the extremis…

So I started researching playing a game like this, and I found EXCELLENT documents for all the monsters in the Monster Hunter World made for D&D 5e. Conversion work aside, what would you think of playing a purely monster hunter -oriented game like this? I could do it in 5e, but I don't own the books, and the 150 dollar (!) price tag is a little steep for me right now. I could put together something with little conversion work, and use minis (of course) of tyrannosauruses, etc. and some jungle terrain for verisimilitude purposes. How would you run a monster hunter game like this, based on the video game franchise?
