My group had so much fun plowing through Fantasy HERO converted War for the Crown (Pathfinder) that I've talked them into something that I've wanted to do for a long time. Pillars of Eternity 1 as a Fantasy HERO campaign. There's so much good Wikipedia information available for the game (spell lists, maps, lore, etc.) that I will be converting the game setting & mechanics to Fantasy HERO. None of my players have gone through the PC game so there is a TON of great storytelling to be had. Updates to follow.

Yes I know its all a CP point game, but me and the group I am in are wondering if there is an official or officially accepted currency system for the game? Or at the very least is there a currency system proven to work w/ the game. I am not talking about how much is a gold coin worth per se for example when I say currency system, I am referring specifically to prices of things already in the game such as a suit of armor or a sword in currency value and not CP value. Whether anyone likes/dislikes it is a different topic, not trying to be rude, just trying to stay on topic.

Hi. Have a question about making a wizard's spellbook. Would it be best to make it as a vpp or multipower to replicate a spellbook as in a dnd sense. Also a consideration is I'd like my wizard player engaged with the game rather than preparing spells for the next combat in between combats. All suggestions are appreciated

Everyone knows that a city succeeds or fails on its bureaucracy. Next time your players try to enter a new town, have a bureaucrat standing next to the city guards and have him give each of the PCs this form. Make sure the players fill this out separately then have the bureaucrat compare their answers. APPLICATION FOR ENTRANCE TO THE CITY 1) Full name 2) Mother's maiden name 3) Any titles you have and where they were granted 4) Place of birth 5) What is your reason for visiting our fair city? 6) Education 7) List your previous three jobs …

For my fantasy game I'm planning I wanted to give rewards like in typical fantasy games like gold, ect. Problem is for me I would rather keep it simple and use the CP system more or less as is. So I thought why not use resource points as gold but with an exchange rate. I was thinking that 10gp would be like 1 CP. But I could use some input on my exchange rate from others with more experience with hero system. I'm open to suggestions so thanks in advance

Hi. I'm about to play in a low-magic setting using Fantasy Hero/ Hero 6e, and am looking for some ideas of what spells a wilderness-oriented 'hedge mage' might have (and suggestions on how to construct each spell). The idea is that the guy is a wilderness expert -- tracker, survivalist, etc., but he supplements his knowledge with various skills of 'the old ways.' This allows him to do things like hide the smoke of a fire, dry out wet clothes, set night time alarms, and... I'm not sure what else. More stuff in the vein. Nothing flashy, quick, or combat related. Anyone have any thoughts? Anyone done anything like this before? Thanks in advance!

One of my favorite aspects of running D&D and Pathfinder adventurers using HERO system is customization. A few weeks ago one of my friends stepped up to take the GM reigns for a few weeks so I could avoid burnout (been DM'ing that table for over a year straight). In comes my Autolycus inspired rogue - Dirk Daggerman. Pretty standard rogue fare with a few HERO system tweaks that caught the players offguard. Character Defining "powers": +7 rPD - hardened/inpenetrable - only against sharp metal objects. No blade would willingly hurt Dirk Daggerman. Major Transform - Dagger from thin air - No matter how well you'v…

While I don't usually do Fantasy Hero, I've developed an urge to design a Conan-style Sword and Sorcery setting. The most notable thing about Conan's stories (the Howard ones, at least) is that they are basically "historical" fiction with fantasy trappings. So I'm putting together a list of historical settings to rip off. I'm looking for suggestions to add to the list, although with a twist. I'm not going to initially share the list I have already have. My idea is to see what other people think of as interesting settings.

Yes; I know-- odd request for Fantasy, but hear me out: Many, many, _ma--- you know what? That's enough "manys." I'm old. There. Now we all know. Some years ago, I went all-in and built a fantasy world-- I mean months of work, pencils-and-notebooks type work, if that tells you how long ago it was. It did not survive the years. Hell, it did not survive the campaign, since it had no race of Mary Sue elves. I mean elves. It had no elves. That's a really important thing for me: no Tolkien, and no damned elves. Let's face it: if ten people ask you "can we play Fantasy next?", nine of them are saying "this game would be better i…

The Back story: In the last adventure the party came across a worm that burrows through rock and devours really dense material that it can't burrow through, for example gems and rare metals and such. So our wizard decides that he is going to capture the creature by creating a spell to harden the rock while other party members distract it so that when it attempts to flee (via tunneling) the rock will be to hard for it to burrow through. (He already has a spell to remove the previous tunnels built into the room ("Stone Shape" a minor transformation spell) The Problem: I'm trying to figure out what fits best as the powers basis. At first I thought it would be sim…

BACKGROUND On August 14th, 1983 Antoni "Tony" Biagiotti, a 17 year old heavy metal enthusiast and avid AD&D player, stepped off a curb and into the path of an oncoming car while leaving the Richfield Coliseum after attending a performance by the band Iron Maiden. Critically injured, Tony was rushed to the Community Hospital of Bedford and stabilized, but his injuries left him in a coma, hovering in the liminal space life and death. This internal struggle, the choice to live or die, gave birth to World of Rhûne. The World of Rhûne Rhûne is a fantastic, multi-dimensional world of magic where the forces of Good and Evil are locked in…

I am creating a wizard who summons genie’s to do the work for him. Basically, i want to summon a creature that follows my commands, but tries to find loopholes with my commands. He has to obey what I say without question, but can exploit loopholes. I was thinking of a summon power that summons a creature with a VPP, but I cannot figure out how to do the whole obeys my commands but finds loopholes thing. I also don’t want an ego role. I want Charges on that power, he comes out and does one job with the above specifications, then leaves. Rinse repeat until I run out of my three charges for the day. Something like that. How do I do such a thing?

I've been running a game for awhile now and needed a break. Convinced one of my long-time D&D DM friends to take the reigns for a few weeks. He was sweating bullets, but by the end of the session he was getting the hang of it. Resistance is futile. They will be (Fantasy HERO) assimilated.

From what I've read Fantasy Hero Complete is pared down rules from the core 6E1 and 6E2 with some fantasy stuff added. I believe it's also been said that there were some rules actually changed from the core. What are the differences between the two? If you have 6E1, 6E2, and the older 6E Fantasy Hero supplement do you have everything that's in FHC?

Work is ongoing with this project, and I plan on posting some things here to help give a glimpse into what the project is. Essentially, the Field Guide is a book of the other stuff in the world besides monsters and treasures and player characters. It is about the animals, plants, minerals and such that player characters can interact with to their advantage or detriment. This includes poisons, trades such as blacksmithing and leatherworking, herbs of fantastic enchanted quality, and much more. For example, in the world of Jolrhos you will find this: Pepper Moss This dappled green and white hanging moss is uncommon on trees. It dangles like Spanish moss, espe…

I was wondering if there are rules to create mundane items in HERO. I have a player who is a blacksmith and wants to create armor and weapons. Is this a facility of spending gold and making a PS:Blacksmith roll and that is it. How long does it take and the materials required as well as the difficulties would be appreciated. Would he have to spend XP for adding mithril to it?

We all know that Anime/Manga/Video weaponry can be wierd. Stuff like a hammer that has rocket jets. Or a blade that is also a key. Or a blade that is also a gun. But as I just learned, they are totally behind the curve in that regard. History one ups them every step of the way: The problamy most bizare shield in history: https://youtu.be/0AIUF6iCPj0 This explanation was given below in the comments and it makes a lot of sense: "I remember this shield. It was specifically designed by "Broma Venschwitz" in the early 1600s. The entire point of the lantern shield was to see the shinny reflection of the deadly pommel throw at night. Once you caught …

You have a High Magic Campaign where Common magics for NPCs are Shrinking & Growth (10 inches to 4 Meters), teleportation once a day up to 40 meters, and invisibility once a day. How would you defend your homes, castiles, lands, country, etc. from thieves, soldiers, etc. that would be invading, breaking in, etc? What kind of traps would you build? What type of magics would you place to keep things safe? Thanks for the ideas and help.

I am considering making a heroic game based in the fairy tale world. Players can choose almost any literary character before the 1940s So, the could play anything from Frankenstein's monster to Jack, from Jack and the beanstalk. But that means that there will be magic. I will use the adage that all magic comes with a price. For example, Merlin ages every time he does a spell. He's really in his 20s, but looks like he's in his 80s. Question 1. Who would you like your character to meet? Question 2. What are some common archetypes (besides pirate, knight, princess, or thief)? Question 3. How els…

I've never been much into superhero stuff, but from my time here on the boards, I've gleaned a thing or two about the genre - particularly the 'speedster' as a character trope. The character with superhuman speed makes a lot of sense (in as much as anything does) in the superhero genre, but I was wondering how people are dealing with variable speed in fantasy. Skimming through the board I occasionally see the advice to either ditch the speed chart entirely or keep everyone at the same speed (2 or 3), perhaps because this is what is expected from the systems that other players are coming from as it reduces book keeping and superspeed isn't as much a trope in fa…

From the Riders of Rohan to the Dothraki, horse-centered cultures have long been a staple of fantasy. This episode of the public TV program NOVA looks into how humans came to domesticate horses, and the impact on history. Good information here to help in designing and portraying your setting's horse-based culture. Coolest thing: It appears horses were first domesticated in what is now Kazakhstan, by a culture archeologists now call the Botai. Since the Botai were not literate (and neither was anybody else at the time), they remain deeply mysterious. And the greatest mystery may be what happened to them. They seemed to be quite successful for a while, with rela…

Reading through Viking Combat techniques, one I came across some time ago was how they would "block" a weapon attack by binding/entangling it, and following up as a counterstrike with their own weapon. My original thinking was that you could abort to a weapon bind just like a block, and follow with a counterstrike if the bind was successful. But re-reading Hero Martial Arts 6th edition, you cannot abort to a Bind, since it assumes Bind is an active attack like a Strike. Should I just say the "Block" in the martial block is a temporary bind, like blocking an attack by grabbing the weapon and then letting it go, instead of trying to add an Abort element to Weapon Bin…

The recent arrival of The Broken Kingdoms in the HERO store has made me very happy: I have always wanted to print a couple of copies. Most of you know how I feel about bootlegs and piracy, so I figured I'd never get a second copy to make a legal "backup" of, and of course, the price of having something printed and bound at that time.... It's way cheaper now, and I've bought my second copy of the PDF (having gotten the first from the diskettes, the way I'm sure a lot of you did. I've contacted Storn Cook to see if he might still have the original "cover" image (he's not sure, if you're wondering, but he's willing to look around for a digital copy, …
