were starting to try and organize some chat sessions on Undernet IRC on our #traveller channel, but we have a lot of GURPS and D20 folks too and a couple of us are big hero fans... I want to try and drum up more interest in Hero and traveller both even Hero in general we usually start about 7pm eastern time and were trying to organize something for this friday night if this is stepping on any toes, it wasnt intended i figure cross-system/genre interests are always a good thing if any questions catch me here or by e-mail or stop by #traveller if nobodys in #traveller, theres at least one of us in #callahans most of the time Call…

What sort of campaign could one have aboard a generation ship? Admittedly it wouldn't be the sort of camapign you could get in an FTL environment, but being aboard a generation ship could prove quite intreresting, especially is the ship is large enough that it comes a world unto itself. What happens to the society that developes after six or seven hundren uniterrupted years in space with no contact with the outside universe?

I've just been reading Stephen Donaldson's Gap series, and thinking about how to recreate the gap drive in Herospeak. It's mostly very straightforward -- Teleportation with Megascale and Extra Time to initiate. The only problematic thing is that the maximum range is dependent on the ship's velocity when it activates the drive. To simplify matters, I'm thinking of just making it 100 x the fraction of C (e.g. if you're travelling at 0.15 C when you enter Gap, you jump 15 light years; if you're doing 0.01 C you jump 1 light year, and so forth). Any opinions on what such a limitation would be worth? Note: for my game, the actual limitation value is irrelevant s…

heres a small subsidized passenger liner thats commonly seen plying routes off the beaten path, capable of gas giant refueling, and carrying a decent load of cargo, and about 40 passengers in comfort. this ship can also carry up to 20 peoplesicles. this design has also seen lots of other more interesting uses, q-ships, mercenary transports etc...

You know, the oldie but a goodie from FGU? I am about to start a project to convert it to Star Hero. Anybody out there interested in taking part and or sharing resources? I have every book ever made for the system, and virtually every book ever made by FGU for that matter. I redid the whole thing once before with my ultra realistic and amazingly complex system of my own devising. Maybe this is a better idea. I think the main thing I know I wont be doing is converting all the equipment, I tend to do it as needed. I also would like a new starship combat system. Any fellow sanity optional people out there willing to help me out? People always think Im nuts when …

This is what I came up with for a field to kill germs and viruses in a sick bay: Sterility Field: RKA 1 point (vs. PD), Reduced Endurance (1/2 END; +1/4), Penetrating (+1/2), AOE (8" Any Area; +1 3/4), Conforming (+1/2) (24 Active Points); OIF Bulky (-1), No Range (Only within Sick Bay) (-1/2), Only vs. bacteria and viruses (-1/4) (uses END Reserve) Comments or suggestions?

Beyond the Star Hero genres (Space Opera, Military Campaigns, etc.), What kind of teams are you GMing/gaming? When I say that, I mean: Merchant crew Passenger liner crew Space Exploration Soldiers Adventurers For Hire Spies Pirates Scientists Space Cops and so forth. And how much work would it take to make a generic published adventure fit into your campaign? What kinds of settings does your team frequent (bars, spaceport docking bays, high-tech city streets...) ? I'm waiting anxiously for my half-price FH Battlegrounds to arrive, and hoping that there will one day be a Star Hero Battlegrounds or the like Maybe if enough people give Steve som…

I am about 1/2way through alien wars, and I am really enjoying the fluff. Its not the most original stuff ever, but its very entertaining and does a good job of setting up the types of campaigns you could run in the setting. The plot hooks and campaign ideas in the back of the book I also have checked out, and a lot of them sound good too. Is anyone running an alien wars/space military/alien invasion type of campaign? If so, how is it going and what is your campaign centered around?

Starting this one again... because I will never let Star Frontiers die... Here is my groups take on the legionary, simple, yet oh so effictive Doze Grenade. The other tread had it as EB, some use Major Transform, and there was even a niffty Stimulate Death option but my players didnt care for those..this is what they came up with: Doze Grenade. A doze grenade releases a cloud of fast-acting knockout gas. A doze grenade is only effective on the turn that the grenade goes off. A shot of stimdose will revive a sleeping individual immediately. It weighs about .05 kg. Game Information: Drain STUN 6d6, NND (Defense is Life Support [self-contained Breathi…

I've been looking at doing something a little different in my Star Hero universe each computer gets a multipower for programs, and this way your are limited in how many programs you can have running at once. this is based on whats been done with Traveller, Space Opera, and Spacemaster for example say you have a 20 pt multipower for software and you need to have various programs running (You get 1 1pt progam per 3 pts of int that dont count in the MP) I know it says your not supposed to put skills in a MP or Veep but this is the one time I allow it in my universe at least other ideas? opinions? Brickbats... tacnukes?

Been reading the collected HAMMER'S SLAMMERS that Baen but out a few years back. Been taking notes. Been wondering what sort of damage a 200mm powergun bolt does... And how many inches of range is required to hit a target in orbit... Anyway, stay tuned, I'll be posting revised powergun stats, as well as 30 ton combat cars and 170 ton hovertanks to play with. Just gimme a week or two.

I was just wondering if anyone had any idea where one could get a galactic map (much like the one in the Free Stuff for the TE Galactic Map) that would allow you draw in any empires that were suitable for your own campaigns? I kinda thought it would be useful.

I'm looking for a way to simulate the shields from Star Trek. These protect completely from small attacks (Say less than 4d6 RKA), but bigger attacks begin to batter through the shields a bit at a time ("Forward shields now at only 62%, Captain!") until they fail completely. And it takes time to repair/get them up again. Ablative seems a probable method for the wearing away part, but how to simulate the other portions? Suggestions?

I have plans to buy all the Hero books (or at least most of them), but until then can someone please help me. In the Official Hero Universe, which alien races are "copies" of the Blondes (also called Nordics) and the Gray? For those that hasn't heard about Grays and Blondes: http://www.global-conspiracies.com/a-z.htm I have the Star Hero Prefab and the TE Prefab, so if any of the aliens in there match what I'm searching for it would be great. I also have the Alien Wars playtest.

I'm trying to figure out something about hyperspace in the Terran Empire setting. As I understand it, a hyperspace drive puts you into hyperspace for a limited time -- the better the drive, the longer you can stay there. Once you are in hyperspace, you move at whatever rate your conventional thrusters dictate (times one million, of course). Thus, all ships move at more or less the same rate in hyperspace; what varies is the length of time you can be in hyperspace before the drive has to recharge or whatever. First question: how does this jibe with the concept of hyperspace beacons? If you can only spend a limited amount of time in hyperspace, how do they get the beac…
