Well fans of the series should have no trouble at all with what I'm talking about.. For the rest, Well, Our Hero has decided that he does not like killing anymore, that the universe has seen to much death. However he is still a freedom fighter so what to do? The answer several miracles of modern biochemistry. There are three drugs/chemicals that I want to reproduce, but I'm having some issues ruleswise (I'm also at work and don't have a book handy) First, Vomit. I have two trains of thought, either a largeish say 6 or 8d6 Drain to CON or a smaller 2 or 3d6 drain to CON, but continuous for say 3 to 5 minutes. The second option pretty much ensures that every…

Just before the dreaded d20 monster was born TSR came out with a game I really liked(can you believe it)called Alternity. I was wondering if any of you converted it or parts of it to Star Hero?

Has anyone tried a write-up of an Irken like Zim and Tak, or a SIR robot, or that insane energy-to-matter Megascale creation tech the Irken Empire has? Over at Spacebattles.com we've decided the Irken are uber-uber and I'd like to see if you can even play an Invader Zim-style campaign using HERO.

I got to see this show -- at least the first episode -- at my club meeting last night. It's about a sentient cat 9who is greedy, egotistical, lazy and eager to blame others for his mistakes) and a human cop (who is trigger-happy in the extreme) who roam the solar system battling space pirates. The level of overall destruction is a pretty good match for Dirty Pair -- the point that the duo are fired by the anti-pirate polcie in the first epsidoe for running up huge bills. Or so it would appear -- so they steal their own ship and go pirate-hunting on their own. Since the ship is intelligent, this is quite a feat. And evidently this is what the Chief wanted them to do all al…

This may be slightly OT for Star Hero, but since the originals (and the books) are listed as source materials... On Tuesday the BBC launched its new radio adaptation of the late Douglas Adams' final three Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy books - Life, The Universe and Everything; So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish; and Mostly Harmless. 25 years on from the original radio version, the new series uses pretty much the same cast, with the exception of Richard Griffiths (Uncle Vernon in Harry Potter) as Slartibartfast. From 10.30GMT on Thursdays, the series will be broadcast over the internet - which means that those of you in the States can hear the first epis…

I feel like I'm fighting an uphill battle. I so want to run sci-fi games. I want to do something other than Star Wars...but it's like everyone has D&D on the brain. Any suggestions on how to grow the love for this genre? I would love to see Star Hero's print run back up to full pace. But alas.

I recall a couple of people (Steve primarily) mentioning they were eagerly awaiting the release of Profantasy Software's science fiction add-on for Campaign Cartographer 2, Cosmographer Pro. Well, it's here. I haven't had much of a chance to do more than play with it yet, but what I've seen is pretty good. Basically, it gives you new templates, drawing tools and symbols for (a) star sector mapping, ( planetary maps, © local maps and (d) starship deckplans. While most of the stuff you get is generic, there's a lot of support for Traveller. You get Traveller-style sector and subsector templates, world hex maps and deckplan symbols. One of the sample deckplans…

reference: allsystems.org The force-lance as stated there fires tiny explosive attack drones to either hit a target or to intercept inbound projectiles, from other effectors to mortar rounds (the latter over an area). It also extends to a staff with a contact shock effect. It can be set into the ground and programmed to attack / intercept automatically. The effectors on the show are seen in Season 1 to arc around cover, and to only need aiming or miss targets when opposed by superior ECM or other effectors. How can I model a force-lance in HERO? I've tried RKA indirect no range modifier armor-piercing (counter-ECM) + missile deflection ranged hardened (ECM).…

Was there ever a supplement on this? Have many (any?) run a game like this? At around 1am last night I started to write out ideas I was having on how to run this. My influences have been Gamma World (stupid but inspiring when I was 15), Aftermath, Morrow Project, Fallout (computer game), Twilight 2000, Road Warrior, Aliens, The Postman (David Brin novel not the Kevin Costner film), Dr. Strange Love, Arthur C. Clarke, Azimov, "A Matter for Men" by David Gerrold, et. al. What I am going for is quite similar to Aftermath and Morrow project. The basic premise is that 150 or so years from now the Earth encounters another race in space. They are drawn to our Solar S…

Well, its prefectly innocent, but it looks like something from a scifi movie. In sf I don't know wheter I'd call it a ship in hyperspace or a gun ready to fire. Still pretty cool. http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap040928.html The only thing that annoys me about apod is the wonderful views of space and the fact that we are still stuck on this ball of mud. Stupid laws of physics.

I'm debating a number of different games/genres to run here soon. One of them is a merc game with players set in a Terran Empire type setting. What I'm curious about is ideas for a few good intro session while the players/specialist get use to the lower power setting the Dark Champions style play. Any ideas?

Has anyone looked closely at how incredibly (and absurdly) slow the spacecraft in Star Hero and its supplements actually are. Here are a few examples: Merchant Ship (SH) 60" x4 NCM, SPD 3 = 432 kph, or 268 mph. World War Two propeller driven aircraft were almost twice as fast. Fighter (SH) 30" X4 NCM, SPD 4 = 288 kph, or 178 mph. Production sports cars go faster. Star Ravager (TUV) 30" x 32 NCM, SPD 3 = 1728 kph, or 1073 mph. It would take the Star Ravager over 9 days to travel the 384400 kilometers from the Earth to the moon, or three times as long as an Apollo spacecraft hauling a Lunar Lander back in the early 1970's. What's wrong with this picture?…

Yep you read that correctly. To give some detail, I'm currently running a champions game set during the current Olympic games. I need to come up with an Exhibition Team Sport being put on by the resident Aliens in my game universe: The Pleidian Planetary Alliance. I want something low tech, something that humans would actually be able to play. The alien version of Soccer, Volleyball, or Lacross. A team sport most def. I have a working concept but need some suggestions on fleshing it out and making it more interesting and exciting. Trigonometry: An arena game set on a multi-level mirror image field. The object of the game is to get a discus like object (N…

I am starting to like these hypothetical versus threads. I'll throw this one out. In head to head combat, which is superior the Enterprise from the Star Trek movies of the 80's (Wrath of Khan/Search for Spock) or the Imperial Star Destoyer shown in Star Wars (not the later Super Destroyer). I think this might be a fairly good match up. Basic rules: There are no other ships of the line involved. The ships are limited to their crews and the equipment that they are shown to have access to in the movies, including fighters and shuttles. If you have some knowledge of other capabilities based on canon products please include that. I realize tha the laws of rubber ph…

Will there be any more books like Gadgets and Gear and Spacers Toolkit in the forseeable future? I don't mind tinkering with the rules to make my own gadgets but sometimes it's good to have them stated for you already.
