I want a mentalist to be able to turn off the perceptive centers of the brain, in regards to his own presence, so that even though the target's eyes can see him, the brain does not interpret those signals. But, if the target can beat the mentalist at an EGO Roll, he can perceive the hidden target (I don't want the power to be absolute). Mental Invisibility: Invisibility to Sight, Hearing, and Smell/Taste, Based on ECV (+1); Requires an Opposed Skill Roll (EGO versus EGO, -1/2), Only versus Sentient Minds (-1/4) Does the Invisibility need BOECV, or is that a waste? Does the EGO versus EGO count as a Limitation, or should it be assumed to be the special effe…

I've seen several people mention that you can use breakfall (or perhaps acrobatics) to stand up as a 0-phase rather than a half-phase action. I cannot, however, find any rules that support that theory. Can someone point me to where that's actually described? It's sort of implied in the 'breakfall' description in UMA, but still never actually spelled out. Any help would be appreciated 'cause it seems a little silly for my MA to buy TP with 'position shift' just to mimic an 'instant stand' ability.

(Not sure if this should go here, the Rules forum, or the Fantasy Hero Forum. I rolled a die and this forum won out I'm working on a Heroic Level campaign (FH type, actually) and I've got a character that can activate some limited magical abilities via Herbalism (druid priestess type). The spells all require extra time (usually 1 or 5 minutes) and expendable OAF (the herbs). Mostly they'll be limited to AIDs and HEALs. Dilemma 1: I'd like to create something to help resist toxins. Normally, I'd think this would be a 10 pt. Life Support, so I could create an AID to that, and shift it way down on the time scale. Trouble is, AID can't grant a power that the charac…

I know that several people have stated they wish they had "official" HERO system dice. Well, I can't help you there, but I can get you close. I was at a convention recently when I found Earth speckled dice by Chessex. It comes very close.

Ok a newbie question here. I'm looking to design the power push hands for tai chi. Now the way I want to use the power is as more of a redirection of force but I can't seem to design it the way I want. My first thought was to use the absorption ability to use the oppenents strength against him. but I don't see a way to make the d6 amount variable and get a active cost. here's how i picture it to work: Attacker A throws a punch at a pc with Tai chi. they both have to make attack rolls assuming the defender is successful the attacker still rolls his stun damage but it applies to himself as the Tai chi practioner "redirects this force against him. I wants this so that…

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone could help me to design a grenade I just read about in a novel. It's called a nitrogen charge. It's filled with liquid nitrogen and when detonated covers the blast radius with this super cooled lethal liquid nitrogen. Obviously this is a very nasty weapon and the damage it can cause would be considerable. Any ideas on how to construct such a nefarious device?

Unless I missed it in the 5th ed somewhere, I have a question with Find Weakness. If the Find Weakness if bought to affect all attacks, does the F.W. roll need to made once and the success or lack of it affect all attacks or does it merely allow any attack to roll to see if Find Weakness took effect? Does one roll do it all for all attacks or does each attack need a seperate attack roll?

Does anyone think it might be appropriate for a person holding a handgun at the ready to abort to attack some idiot who's charging them? This is also assuming they're not surprised. I probably wouldn't use this in a supers campaign, but I think it's appropriate for a realistic campaign. Whachoo think? BlueBuddha

Besides the Hero Resource Kit that comes with the GM shield, are there any really good character sheets out there and/or Power Design Sheets that some people may have created to ease the burden for newbies with this system?

Hello, Just got to borrow a friend's copy of HERO 5th and I'm still trying to get a hang of the chargen. My main problem lies in powers. The character I was trying to make was supposed to be a guy with several devices that enable him to manipulate electricity (pretty standard stuff). No armor, probably just boots, gloves and a battery back. Looking at the Packages, I decided to go for Elemental Control: Electricity Anyway, this is how it looked like: 20 = EC: Electricity (OIF -1/2) (originally 30AP) under that... 20 = Endurance Reserve (300 END 20 Rec) 20 = flight 15" 50 = Energy Blast, 6d6, Armor Piercing 20 = Force Field 30:PD 30:ED 50 …

I've heard from a little birdie that Champions 5th has a random character generator. Is this true? If so, have any herophiles out there used it and did it work well for you?

Has the Dogfighting Modifiers table been updated lately? It looks like it could use modifiers for DEX and SPD. As I recall, vehicles didn't have DEX and SPD when that table first appeared.... (Suggestion: +1 if your vehicle has higher DEX, +1 for each +5 DEX; +1 for each SPD higher.) Edit: Further suggestion: +2 for No Turn Mode; -2 for every level of Limited Maneuverability.

Greetings all, I am trying to decide on a core rules system for a low fantasy campaign, and have been comparing various candidates (d6 Classic, GURPS, d20, etc.). I also just bought the 5th Ed HERO System rules and, of course, there is much to recommend it. In fact, after a cursory review, I would consider it the present frontrunner. One thing that puts me off a bit, however, is what I believe some call stat "granularity" -- that is, the way the HERO system rules tend to minimize differences in basic stats by subjecting them to division for various purposes. STR, for example, is effectively divided by 2.5 for purposes of figuring base damage, and other charac…

The character I run in our champions campaign is a mage. My character is built with a VPP. One of the situations our group has encountered is a villian who will go desolid to avoid attacks. Of course to counter this in the past I have bought attacks that affect desolid. The problem is that the power level of such attacks are, necessarily, lower since the advantage must be paid for. However, the villians defenses are no lower when he is desoild so such attacks are usually woefully ineffective. One solution I have come up with is to buy an NND attack whose defense is Not Being Desolid. Do you think this is an overly cheezy thing to try and get away with? For that matte…

Given the thread over Elemental Controls, which remain in some ways even more controvertial than VPPs, I decided to try to come up with a less controvertial alternative to them. I ignore the concept of thematic unity, since no one can agree on that anyway and just went for rule mechanics instead: Power Group (warning sign) A Power Group (PG) is a group of powers, considered to be linked together in some fashion or sharing some common element. In return for a discount on all powers in the PG, all powers in the PG are affected when a single power is affected by an Adjustment Power. A Power Group has a Power Group Base . The base is a pool of points that may be u…

I have been going over my rather larger HERO system collection and looking at the books that I have yet to pick up and I was wondering a couple of things. 1) Is anyone else collecting everything HERO? 2) I notice a couple of the books I am lacking are actually dual products put out by ICE. They apparently have stats for rolemaster and for Fantasy Hero. Specifically I am missing the Mythic age books such as Mythic Egypt, Mythic Greece, etc. I am wondering if anyone has these what they think of them. Are they worth picking up? How hard or easy would it be to convert them to 5e? 3) There are a lot of ICE "Shadow World" products. Are they worth the time and eff…

Here's my "problem". Any comments would be appreciated. A PC (Wonder Stuff, my screen name and excellent 80's Alternative band) is a shape changer much like Plastic Man. A Master Villain )MV) has taken a body tissue sample from WS and cloned it. The result of the cloning resulted in lots of mini-Wonder Stuffs ( I call them Stuffies). The Master Villain uses a machine to communicate telepathically with these Stufies and command them. The Stuffies can use their powers (such as shape changing into a transportation sled, guard MV with Missle Deflection, etc) with minimal thought/effort from MV. He can give them a command and the keep doing it. Sort of with Ani…

I am working on a character who gets his powers from two sources: his own initial (and continuing) study of magic, and a "radiation accident" where an extradimensional being obliterated a wielder of "shadow magics" directly in front of him, blasting the magical energies into him. I want to be able to use "normal" magic at a low level (around 25-30 AP) and have access to shadow magics at a higher level (due to campaign restraints, ~50 AP). Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to represent this? I find that I have a lot of ideas for cool powers I'd like to use, if only once or twice, and having to buy them all would get expensive, especially due to their infrequent ap…

I was playing Unreal Tournament the other day and I was wondering how to make the blob gun. It basically shoots out gobs of damaging goo and after a few seconds, the goo explodes.
