How would you make a force field that only protects against a set number of attacks no matter how strong they were? example: Force Field 10 PD / 10 ED, 5 "uses" Character A gets hit for 12, 4, 7, 20, 1 points of damage and then the Force Field drops. But up to that point the Force Field will work to it's full ability?

I am curious how others deal with chracters using stealth and powers. As a general rule I allow plaers to use stealth with their powers at a penalty of -1 per five active points. Thhis even allows players to run while using stealth however they are at -1 per every 2.5" they move per phase so only a true master gets away with it. So if a character wants to use his HKA/RKA to assasinate someone he does not automaticly have to be visable to every one within LOS.

Okay, I have been thinking again (I know, terrible thing to do) Howmany of you use Summon as written? Most specificaly the Summon specific individual modifier? See here is my general problem, if I can summon a king, or someone important then I agree with the general idea of the modifier, but what happens when I can summon a specific being who is not important? The fact that I can summon the XJ-71 Robot that belongs to me should not imho cost more than if i can summon any XJ-71 Robot So in closing I consider this modifier to be similar to the DNPC modifier of useful

I just got this yesterday and I want to compliment Bob and Steve on the excellent job they did with this one. A very well done to you both! I'm especially pleased with the well thought out work that went into the sailing rules. I have to admit that I was worried about this. But you guys did a great job with it. I do have a couple of minor nits however. Would you expect anything less from The Imperial Khan? I wouldn't want to disappoint you. 1st.) In contrast to the write-up on page 63, 16th-17th century Galleons rarely carried anything heavier than a 20 pounder. Although heavier cannons did exist then the ship's timbers couldn't stand the strain of the the …

http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=celtic-cowboy&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=25 A member of my group who also buys a lot of HERO stuff has to come up with some extra cash by EOM so I'm selling some of his stuff on Ebay for him (see what happens when you get a big Ebay rating). Has several of the newer books (core, UMA, Ninja Hero, Star Hero etc) as well as a few of the older support books. So if you're missing something, or just need a loaner copy give it a look.

Hi All, I know that Missile Deflection (MD) can be put into a Multipower (MP) but I have one question concerning its operation... If a character has only enough points to use only one power in a MP, can that character say assign the points to their MP in their action phase and then, in a following phase before their next action phase, use MD? For example, if Hydoboy acts on phases 3,6,9 & 12 - He fires a water blast on phase 3 then gets attacked on phase 4 can he redistribute his MP Pool so that he can attempt to MD? I'm stumped because I know that reallocation of MP points is a 0 phase action (could he alternatively reallocate his MP Pool at the end of…

One bizarre idea appeared, and I decided to share it with you people to drive you insane. How about using Telekinesis with a special advantage/limitation to transport electricity, fire, etc? each 5 STR of TK would move 1d6 damage worth around. 30 TK, for example, could transport 6d6 worth of electricity (enough to transfer power between two automobiles) or 2d6K worth of fire (Capable of cleaning heavy housefires). If one is feeling particularly frisky, one might want to try using this for light (each 5 STR moving +1 PER worth of light around) or heat (5 STR to move 1 Temperature level). Please send feedback and explain to me how this can be done with Change…

Steve, I'm building a brick character, and as one of her "brick tricks" I want her to be able to catch large items thrown at her, and throw them back at the originating character (probably another brick, or high-level telekinetic). The item would have to be large (at least the size of a big floor safe) in order to be caught, so bullets, energy blasts, and the like could not be reflected. Also, I thought to properly simulate force, the missile could only be deflected if the thrower's STR (either real or TK) was less than or equal to the reflecting brick's strength. How much of a limitation would you give for Missile Reflection - Large Items Only, Attacker…

Working on a con game here, and it starts out with the PCs in a training exercise. Since live ammo would be a tad risky, I figure they're using something on the line of a laser tag setup. Unfortunately, it's been years since I played that. For the gun, I'm thinking 1 point of Flash with appropriate limitations. But should it be a visible light beam, an IR beam or something else? For the sensor rig they're wearing, Detect seems to be the way to go. However, the rig doesn't cover all of them, so it would only detect hits in certain locations. Just define the Detect as "hit to chest area", or slap a limitation on? And, if I go with option 1, is there a way I …

One problem some of my players have on occasion is they can't get the idea out of their heads that a given power has only one effect. That light spell can create light but it cannot be used to blind someone - at least not with out express GM permission. But opening that can of worms can be a big headache, requiring constant adjudication on the fly. OK... that's what being a GM is all about but why make it harder than necessary. HERO works for so many things because it is a point system... you get what you pay for. "What's that?†you say. "We have a solution for that. It is called a power framework." And in the vast majority of cases that works. Just put …

Can someone offer up help on the use of Autofire, rapid fire, etc with HTH attacks (like Martial Arts or a Single Martial Maneuver)... I've gone over this in the books many times in the last week.... and frankly, I dont get it. Not a bit of it. I'm trying to take a Martial Arts character and give him a Multi-punch attack.... What do I buy, and where do I buy it. Any and all help is appreciated.

If I wanted to purchase levels with DCV, but only for performing sweeps (to counteract the 1/2 DCV penalty) how much would that cost? Also, if I purchased levels with DCV for sweep maneuvers, would the levels get halved as well?

Armor: Ablative or DEF+BODY
by Guest C_Zeree- 0 replies

I am new to HERO gaming, but after pondering the rules for a time now ablative armor still does not make sense to me. I wanted to make armor that got worse when it actually took damage. I thought more “realistic.†However the ablative limitation just doesn’t seem right. So a piece of armor takes more body than it can handle, that means the next time you get hit, your armor may, or may not protect you? Am I reading this right? Maybe I just need someone to speak slowly to explain it better. The only good example I can come up with is damage to certain areas of the armor, so on the off chance that someone hits in that area next time, it won’t protect y…

I seem to remember, from a long time ago, to have read somewhere a detailed analysis about how many points would be needed to create the starting point of Hero's character creation (movement, 10 in all primary, can see, can hear, can manipulate, and so on and so forth). Am I dreaming this or it did get published somewhere?

How much should a limitation be worth that either: 1) Cannot be used with another power. I assume this would vary, depending on the power it's exclusive with, much in the way linked is. A constant power would place a greater limitation on a power it's not usable with, etc. 2) A power, in this case, a characteristic, that is reduced in Active Point value as another constant power increases in active point value. I know this can be handled with a multipower reserve, but I have a 10 and a 18 AP characteristic being lowered inversely proportionately by a 40 AP Constant Power. So far, I am going with a -1/2. Whachoo think? BlueBuddha

Converting mpg to game inches was great. Along the same lines, llama would have liked to have seen some method for converting 0-60 time to DEX and levels with ground movement. Llama would have also liked to have seen a vehicles ranged used as a limitation instead of a standard 6-hour fuel charge. Why not horsepower or torque for STRs between every 5 points? Llama knows this is just nit-picking and can make up his own overly-complex formulas and charts; just wanted to toss some ideas out to get Hero thinking on their next Ultimate book.

I saw the movie Showtime on cable the other day, and while the movie didn't impress me much, I thought the guns were nice-looking. I didn't catch all the details on them, but I gather they're fully-automatic submachinegun-type weapons that fire depleted uranium slugs. I heard one character say something like "12-gauge" but surely what was meant was something like ".50 caliber". Has anyone worked up stats for it?

Say I want to build a Power to represent a firemen's pole. I know normally most would say to represent this as Gliding 5", Limited Movement (character cannot gain altitude or move in the horizontal plane; -1), Immobile OAF (-2). Total Cost: 1 point. I wonder, what would be wrong with representing this as Swinging? One could then take the idea and make a "Movement Pole," say, which a character has practiced sliding on. I find it interesting because it ties the movement directly into a physical object (defined in the power as the "swingline"). What would be objections to this sort of thing?

How do you determine 'competitive' jumping using Hero rules? An athlete is not neccessarily going to jump the exact inchage as determined be his STR char. I'm thinking of having a houserule that says something along the lines of 'for each + or - 1 to the CHAR-roll (STR or DEX?) you modify the distance jumped by + or - 1/4". ' Does anyone have any other ideas?
