I'm working on a character (NPC villain) who has multiple personalities -- not in the classic sense, but more like The Ventriloquist (from Batman's rogues' gallery). The "main" personality functions constantly, and so does the "alternate" personality through a proxy (in this case, a hand puppet). The twist is that the alternate personality has strong mental powers. He can use those powers independently of what the main pesonality is doing (they'll have independent DEX and SPD), but if the main personality needs to use his left hand for anything the alternate vanishes, as do any effects of his mental powers. Right now I'm inclined to use Duplication (with appro…

When creating a Ninja character using Ultimate Martial Artist I came across Breaking Throw. I ended up having to create that specific martial manuever and was wondering if I just missed it or not? Has anyone been able to find it?

Greetings Herophiles! I need your help deiciding something; which book should I get next? Now, I have a bit of the 4th ed stuff (BBB, Viper, DC, CU, Classic Org, and Shadows of the City). And I have some of the 5th stuff (FREd, Resource Kit, SH, and UMA). I often hear (and have given) the advice that it all depends on what you plan on doing game-wise should determine what you get next. I'm currently designing a SH setting, and running a Dark Champs campaign for my wife. I really wanna get TE, but I need to get caught up on the other books as well. I want to focus more on the genre books than anything, but..... oh well. I also want to make sure that I have the book…

I want to make a smoke screen effect that is weaker around the edges. I was thinking Darkness AE, Change environment (-3) AE (larger than the first) Change environment (-2) AE (larger than the second) Change environment (-1) (larger than the third) Or the easier but more twisting of the rules route Darkness explosion with the SFX that instead of losing dice the darkness begins to become a penalty instead of blocking sight as it loses points. Also would you allow a lim "follows the wind" for an AE or explosion, instead of making a radius the AE / EX spreads in an oblong shape with the direction of the wind, the amount of oblong dependant on the wind speed. A…

Here's the deal: I"ve got this concept for an empath type character. The thing is, he subconsciously radiates his emotions and intentions to everyone around him. Basically I want the "Radiate their nature" ability of Psyscape Psychics presented in Rifts World Book 12: Psyscape on page 29 (Palladium Books). The thing is, is this a Power or a Disadvantage, both or neither? On the one hand, such a character will almost always be able to inspire trust and friendship in others (at least in people that aren't predisposed against him). On the other hand, he'll rarely be able to sneak up on anyone or perform many surprise attacks and everybody will know exactly what he'…

Ok, I liked the AF rules from DI (big surprise), bonuses to hit for AF etc. To represent this I guess it would be easiest to buy guns with AF, CSL's only with AF? (+1 OCV with 3 round burst, +2 with 5 rounds and +4 with 10 etc? I am assuming the lim on the CSL's would be minimal probably 1/4. How about a gatling (the old hand cranked type) AF with the lim "based on STR" Perhaps using the point value of the STR go towards buying levels of AF? How much of a lim do you think this would be worth. Any ideas?

I've been reading through the 5E rules and noticed that some skills cost 1 point to raise and others cost 2 points to raise per level. The example here refers for Knowledge skills: Page 41, FRED: "Two Character points...gives the character and 11-..." Page 42, FRED: "...Alternatively, a character can base a skill on INT for 3 character points... In either case, each +1 to the skill roll costs 1 Character Point." This makes KS (and PS and SS) cheaper than standard 3/2 skills. I guess I'd prefer to either see a +1/1 or +1/2 as a standard. And I know as a GM I can rule by default, but I wanted to know what the reason was. Was it grandfathered in? …

Here's my current write up; am I missing a rule ? 'Asphyxiate Knock out gass grenade' 4d6 EB NND (Defense is LS:Self-Contained breathing or LS: Immunity to Asphyxiants; +1), Explosion (-1 DC/3"; +1) (60 Active); x4 Continuing Charges lasting an extra phase (-1/2), OAF (bag holding grenades; -1): Total Cost 24 points

I'm not sure to to correctly attribute the following power to, since I saw it long ago on another hero board. SFX Defense 1 point per 1 SFX defense acts as PD, ED, Power Defense or Flash Defense against powers of a narrowly defined special effect. It can be made resistant with the usual damage resistance power. Has anyone ever tried this? Was it at all balanced? Can it be made balanced by increasing the cost? p.s. the Invulnerability to Fire was mostly a teaser, though 60 point of Fire Defense would be pretty effective as long as you stayed clear of blast furnaces.

I was just wondering what are some of the funniest moments you have ever had roleplaying in the hero system, either some that were just funny because a person did something stupid or mistakes with the game mechanics that lead to funny experiences in the game?

I would like to create a character that gains his powers in an unnusual way. I just need some help in figuring out about what the modifier would be. Right now I am guessing it would be about -1. He gains his powers from a few different shrines, each shrine grants a different set of powers but he may be effected by more than one shrine at a time. To get the powers requires him to go through a challenge, testing something like his strength or agility, the challenge takes about twenty minutes and unless the GM declares otherwise will be decided by a roll on the appliable stat. If the power is granted it lasts for 24 hours, if not he can't try again for 24 hours. This i…

First, let me preface this w/ how much I love the Hero system. I'm a Champions player, but would like to get a Fantasy Hero game going. My post, however, will be about what I don't like, as I'd like to give constructive feedback. I'll try to split up my posts so that they'll be easier to follow the responses. I don't think these following advantages balance well at all. I think that it's time Hero thought about have more static adders, such as Leaping's +5 to Base cost for accurate, instead of a multipler like +1/4. I find 60 points a good place for comparison, you can always adjust my examples to whatever value you feel is valid. AOE 1 hex Accurate +1/…

Hey, I don't know if this has been discussed before, and I have never really thought about it, but it came up in a restricted game we were playing the other day. The situation was that the game is a pretty low-point super-hero game with a 12DC damage cap. So, we have a brick with a 60 STR and 30" of Leaping. Normally, she does the same damage as most everyone else. But, she put a Move-Through on this giant millipede we were fighting and can crank it up to 22d6. This is a HUGE difference between what our EBer and Mentalists can do, especially in a low-level campaign. So, what can you do? I mean, it's not fair to limit a brick's movement, is it? But, getting dou…

I see sleep powers done as either EB, NND or Drain STUN. As an alternative, how about Mind Control, One Command ("Sleep")? After all, when we sleep at night, we're not down to 0 STUN.

TUV has a stasis seat to protect the occupant of a vehicle. While the way they purchased it (big force wall and LS, occupant can't act) will have the appropriate effect, the cost (355 real points) seems prohibitive. Is there a cheaper way to do it ? I was thinking about Extra Dimensional Movement, through time, to the point in time and space where the stasis seat is recovered after the crash. You pay a lot to have that end point open-ended, but you can limit that with a -2 NCC (the guy in stasis doesn't control when it's deactivated). Call it 20 points base, plus 5 for physical relocation (-2 NCC) and 26 for any point in the next Billion years (-2 NCC) for a real…

How would you make a force field that only protects against a set number of attacks no matter how strong they were? example: Force Field 10 PD / 10 ED, 5 "uses" Character A gets hit for 12, 4, 7, 20, 1 points of damage and then the Force Field drops. But up to that point the Force Field will work to it's full ability?

I am curious how others deal with chracters using stealth and powers. As a general rule I allow plaers to use stealth with their powers at a penalty of -1 per five active points. Thhis even allows players to run while using stealth however they are at -1 per every 2.5" they move per phase so only a true master gets away with it. So if a character wants to use his HKA/RKA to assasinate someone he does not automaticly have to be visable to every one within LOS.

Okay, I have been thinking again (I know, terrible thing to do) Howmany of you use Summon as written? Most specificaly the Summon specific individual modifier? See here is my general problem, if I can summon a king, or someone important then I agree with the general idea of the modifier, but what happens when I can summon a specific being who is not important? The fact that I can summon the XJ-71 Robot that belongs to me should not imho cost more than if i can summon any XJ-71 Robot So in closing I consider this modifier to be similar to the DNPC modifier of useful
