Old Man
Re: The cranky thread I can't outcranky dialysis, identity theft, and death (and sympathies, guys) but I do have an HMO that doesn't consider prenatal ultrasounds, fetal monitoring, or epidural anesthesia to be covered maternity costs. tkdguy
Re: The cranky thread That is good news, tkdguy. I hope they get nailed, too ... and sympathy for your loss. And now, my cranky. You get three guesses what it's about at the first two don't count. Two months. That's the estimate for when the dialysis starts. The access implant is, apparently, an outpatient procedure so I don't have to sweat a hospital stay ... then three or four days of major left-arm soreness. Six to eight weeks for the access to develop (I'm not quite sure what that means), and then it starts, assuming I don't take any sudden turns for the worse in the meantime, which means getting emergency access put in either my chest wall (ow) or my groin (GAH!). In the meantime, I'm scared, I'm angry, and I'm sad. I yelled at my wife and stormed into my bedroom and locked the door in the middle of a game last night and just started crying, then shaking, then crying more. You'd think, knowing this was coming for seven years, I'd be ready for it. I'm not. I'm really, really not. Sorry to hear that, CC. I agree with SatinKitty that seeing a counselor may help. Best of luck to you. After that pretty much everything else is covered. Well, we've signed up for their childbirth class, which has a fee. But other than that everything has been covered. Including the amniocentesis. MilkmanDan
Re: The cranky thread My wife had a couple of friends in town this weekend. Their big plan was to go out Saturday night and stay out late, pretend they were young again. Anyways, it doesn't work out--my wife's an earlybird, and she made it until after midnight at which point they came home and she went to bed a bit before 1:00 a.m., and her friends stayed up for another hour or so. I fire up my PC this morning, open Firefox, type in a URL, and auto-complete puts in what it thinks I want to type . . . some website about straight, naked, erect men. Um, huh? This PC's only a week old, so it's recent, and neither my wife nor I hit it (me, being straight, and her having this ludicrously visceral reaction against porn). So I check the time stamp in the browser history, and a bunch of those sites were hit between about 1:15 and 1:45 early Sunday morning. When I and my wife were asleep, and her friends were still up. Now, I don't care about web porn. I'm not a big consumer of it, largely because my wife hates it and I don't care enough to balance out her really avid dislike. I don't really care what people do on their own computers, but exactly who the hell thinks it's a good idea that, when visiting a friend's house, to go and log on and look at pictures of naked people on their computer? It's just kind of creepy, to put it mildly. I mean, who does that?

tkdguy
Re: The cranky thread MSNBC's Olympic preview said there would be coverage of the men's team saber finals. I spent the whole night waiting for it. It hasn't shown, unless they showed it the half hour I dozed off. Edit: They finally got around to showing it, but on network TV rather than on MSNBC, like they advertised. I missed the beginning.

MilkmanDan
Re: The cranky thread My mother-in-law has a stalker. A potentially violent one. She lives in a small town in Iowa and is a counselor, or was until she retired last week (which she can't afford to do AT ALL, but that's another rant). Anyways, one of her former patients revealed he'd written a novel. About killing his former counselor, who looked like my mother-in-law, was her age and was, clearly, her. He has homicidal tendencies and persistent fantasies about hurting women . . . just a great guy. They've been discussing forcibly institutionalizing him for about a week, but that's still going on, so she's been staying at a friends' house. My wife is heading down to Iowa on a planned visit this weekend and will clearly not be staying at her place. Instead, when she comes back, her mom's coming with to stay with us for a week or two, as she'll have a friend passing through who will be able to take her home. Hopefully, this guy will be good and put away by then, but, well, it's been a fun weekend of phone calls, planning, and general stress. It would probably be wrong to mention in light of this that my mother-in-law drives me absolutely insane and, while I'm glad she'll be OK here, I'd really prefer if she was OK several hundred miles in any random other direction.
