Re: The cranky thread

. . . This here birthday of mine has not been happy, and all because I shut the alarm off rather than snooze. No camp for me. No refund of the travel expense -- the bus fare was already paid, and since the bus company won't let me take another bus than the one I'd booked . . .

The equivalent of about $350 down the drain, and no camp.

That might have ruined the rest of my holidays.

Bleh.

Re: The cranky thread

So ... I'm having labs drawn every other Wednesday. At the beginning of the month, I got the call-back on Friday (scroll back a couple of pages for my meltdown). I got more blood drawn a week ago Wednesday, but hadn't recieved any results ... because, it turns out, something got lost somewhere and my specialist never recieved the results.

Re: The cranky thread

It could be worse, he could be fighting with his HMO over whether they ought to be covering around a thousand dollars' worth of medical expenses incurred as a result of the pregnancy. And be given the runaround by said HMO, whose customer service department referred me to a supervisor who wouldn't return my calls, then when I did pin her down insisted she couldn't do anything for me and referred me back to customer service, who this time wants some kind of signed release so that they can discuss my wife's medical expenses that they are already sending me the detailed billing for...

Re: The cranky thread

This was in my house yesterday. Josh didn't believe it was as big as I'd said it was. I made him track it down.

For some sense of scale . . .

It's dead now, but we had to cleanse the image from our minds before we could sleep.

That is a pretty large arachnid. I wonder what the chances our local spider expert will notice these images are...

Re: The cranky thread

The last time one of those things charged me (and it was charging at quite a speed), I dropped a stapler on it. That didn't kill it. Three more smacks from the stapler did.

Josh looked up some pictures of spiders native to North Carolina, and the closest seemed to be the Funnel Web Spider, though it also resembled a few others.

In Josh's defense, I am scared of spiders, and therefore prone to exaggeration of size and relative scariness. I was not exaggerating when I said this thing was about the size of my thumb, though.

Aren't most of us?

It does seem to be a common theme.

I may end up that way too, considering I don't get along with the guy who got promoted. However, considering the way the admins keep giving me more power and responsibility, then taking it away, I may just quit instead. I don't like the prospect of not having money to pay my bills, but at this point, unemployment is starting to look good.

With a little altering via Photoshop, you can use those pics as visual aids in your next FH game.

Just a friendly reminder: CO2 fire extinguishers are utterly glorious weapons against all arthropods. Flash-freeze the offender, and then you can take a broom handle and bust it up into little bitses at your leisure. Recharging an extinguisher isn't cheap, though.

That one hadn't occurred to me. It would certainly give a better sense of atmosphere and mood. It would definitely convey, "This thing is huge and scary" better than I could ever describe.
