That depends entirely upon how broad you're willing to be with your definition. It is an organic material, and it is the same color and nearly the same texture as some cheeses. For some, I guess that's close enough.

True, but the only time I make con queso is for a party, and just dumping the Velveeta and the Ro-Tel into the crockpot six hours in advance as I am beginning the prep work for the party ... much less hassle than making the sauce.

I suppose, but my head connects it to tuna casseroles...canned tune, canned cream of mushroom soup, potato chips....

 

It was worse than it sounds...late 50's, through the 60's, was a food desert.
