An idle thought......

How much of the Arizona entrenchment on the stolen election story, is based on individuals like Lake, using it to further their own ambitions?  Versus...how much of it was sown election night, when Fox's commentators were so vehement about the (correct) call of the race?  I'm not saying the whole election stealing line is their fault;  Trump was going down that path regardless.  But specifically in Arizona, Fox's handling might've been more of a catalyst.

If we can get through the next 20 or so years, I think this period is going to be intensely studied by historians.

Science is more than a body of knowledge; it is a way of thinking. I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time – when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the key manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness... The dumbing down of America is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance.

SCOTUS Justice Clarence Thomas’ aide collected Venmo payments from lawyers for judge’s Christmas party

I would urge Americans to spread this story to as many of your fellow citizens as you can. The degree to which a Supreme Court Justice has been bought and paid for needs to be common knowledge, or this may never change.

And our elected representatives as well…

"Second place is first loser."

"Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing."

Is there any aspect of American life, of its national culture, where this doesn't apply now?  Damn the consequences, full speed ahead!

They don't hate government per se. They hate government that hinders them from doing whatever they want. They and the GOP and their supporters in general, want government agencies to be organs of the exercise of their own power, in service to them rather than the American people.

Just now, Tom Cowan said:

Well, they would like to 'fix' regulations aimed at keeping the air and water clean and food, drugs and consumer products safe, but that cut into business profits.

They go further than that.  Texas has an example.  Remember the cold snap of a few years ago?  The utilities were caught off-guard.  Nowhere near enough power and gas...so they jacked up rates to MASSIVE levels.

One paragraph from the story:

Quote

BUCHELE: Energy economist Ed Hirs at the University of Houston believes market manipulation actually happens a lot in Texas. It can be done by holding back the product itself, the gas or the electricity, or manipulating the contracts for those products on the financial markets.
