  1. Re: Sword Oriented Martial Art Oh Clsage, don't forget to add some wrestling elements to the form as things like dropping people on their heads works even better when they're wearing an extra 70 pounds of mass.
  2. Re: Sword Oriented Martial Art Do you need gloves, yes and no the first third of the blade is sharp no more, that edge you want is only needed up on the foible of the blade. However after any kind of fighting there will be burrs and nicks in the blade which are just as capable of opening up your hand. A good pair of leather gloves would do nicely for protecting the inside of your hand. As far as actual sharpness for a western blade you have more than a butter knight but razor sharp is just begging for you to ruin the edge in your first swing, so the short answer is about that of a table knife.
  3. Re: What does a "20 Comeliness" look like to YOU? Two ladies that I think would deserve that COM 20 Morena Baccarin Ashiwarya Rai
  4. Re: Noob from Heroes Unlimited/Rifts... 1: Others have covered it, players play. If you run it they will play. 2: Think of the three in this way. An elemental control is a bunch of related powers that you can use at the same time (the human torch can fly surround himself in a fiery forcefield is practically immune to fire would be the entries into an EC). A multi power is a group of powers you pretty much use one at a time (Cyclops can fire regular optic blasts, narrow down the beam to cut through reinforced materials or widen it out and use it to swat down incoming missiles just one at a time). A variable power pool is a method of always having the right power, or at least close to ( A green lantern can do almost anything with his ring given enough willpower). ECs points wise are based on the smallest power setting the power level of the framework. Multi and variable pools are based off your maximum power with them. EG: you have a 20 active point EC, all you powers must be at least 40 points active. you have a 60 point VPP or MP, all powers must be 60 or less. 3: Do some easy runs with some thugs and minions first to test out combat, you really need to run chapions fights to get used to them. 4: Don't know about the prefabs I don't usually use them
  5. Re: Mass Effect Campaign Setting mass effect encyclopedia entries for working out cannon stuff
  6. Re: Training away DCV Penalties from Armor Allow them to buy off all the penalty, I know people in modern times who are good enough in armor to do cartwheels and forward rolls back to standing in full plate, I see no reason to believe that someone from a time where full plate is common couldn't be better than it.
  7. Re: [NEWBIE] How to decide encounter power I second Badger's statement, start out low and work up, an easy fight or two at the beginning of a campaign is perfectly good and will give you some time to get into the swing of running combat in Hero.
  8. Re: Papermodels For Champions for military vehicles of various designs check out: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/bwc-archive/ It a group that is set up for cardstock warhammer 40K models which could fill in several niches in a champions game
  9. Re: Analysis: Deconstruction of NND/AVLD Why is the stopped by uncommon defense/certain special effects a limitation? Remember it's not that you only effect a limited special effect but actually only people with X power or special effect are immune to it. at the same time you can use it to make things that target say all machines by saying NND (defense is not being a machine).
  10. Re: New GM seeking advice for a light-powered HEROS campaign Just remember the useful rules of running a hero game. 1: It's fine if it's easy at first, not only do the PCs not mind getting a cakewalk but it's easier to ramp up difficulty than ramp down without some strange explanations. 2: Villains steal stuff, including good tactics used by the Heroes, if you're ever in a jam use their own tactics against them. 3: Don't always hit their vulnerabilities, unless they took a vulnerability thats really common (vulnerable to physical HKA's you say, don't laugh it happened at a con game) 4: Set limits and don't hesitate to turn down a character concept that you were going to okay just because it's 'built within the rules' there are warning and stop sign powers which as a GM you are completely justified in saying 'NO' to.
  11. Re: Bearing Witness Jaguar Pequino --What has it been like for you to have superpowers? At first a fight against them but now I am much more in tune with them and much more in control. --Why did you choose to use your powers the way you have? My powers are those of a guardian it also part of my nature now. --What do you think you would be doing if you didn't have superpowers? Same thing I'm doing now getting a graduate degree in aplied materials science, just with less fighting. --Do you ever wish you didn't have superpowers? In the beginning occasionally but not for a while now. --What would you decide if you were in my place? Is humanity ready for superpowers, or not? Honestly you're not the first thing to show up and make proclamations about us I'd say let things remain as they are. --Is there anything else you wish to say? Why do you ... whatevers always show up on Earth and do this stuff, is it some kind of place that extra dimensional entities of unusual powers hang out or something?
  12. Re: Modern Swordsmithing Honestly a good sword blade should have some flexibility be able to be honed to a good edge and hold that edge. Extremely durable metals are actually counter productive as they loose flexibility. You make the sword stronger by blade design and proper technique (here's the big hint, never ever ever block or parry with the flat of the blade)
  13. Re: Middleman Costume Generator Honestly it's a good blurb about the series what it doesn't talk about it the comedy and how the Middle Man is the total strait man to Wendy's surprised reactions. They really do have to play it up for comedy as when you ready the encapsulation of an episode you'll understand, for instance: "Master Ping, the Sifu brought in to train Wendy is kidnapped by Luchadores along with the Middle Man and taken to the Yucatan."
  14. Re: What would happen if Los Angeles County vanished? I have to at least partially disagree with the economic outcomes, yes california will have a loss of revenue but not as horrible as expected as one would think thanks to the fact that money in banks is held more virtually than anything and as long as record exist you've at least still got your money.
  15. Re: Susano vs Marvel characters Honestly it depends on what mode he was summoned in, in one mode he can reduce pretty much anything into yinerons and yangerons, which are apparently the component pieces of the universe where he comes from. He actually says if he had been summoned in (name unknown as I'm at work) mode he could have reduced the entire planet to yinerons and yangerons. He can blow a planet to atoms or possibly sub atomic particles, he wins.
  16. Re: Help needed, I new to hero system can someone offer me some advice? As far as suggestions after the books you've listed the two I'd look at next are the Champions genre book and Conquerers Killers and Crooks for some instant baddies. Next would probably be the Viper source book and a city guide to the city of your choice. Ultimate skill and martial artist are both good books but as a new GM not necessary, they are mostly options and expansions on whats in the main book and you can wait to get them at least for a while.
  17. Re: "Neat" Pictures When supervillians really need a good guard dog.
  18. Re: Disadvantages of a Humvee Any vehicle taking a requires maintence/parts type disad could be a real lemon of a vehicle, my dad had a diesel truck that seemed to be in the shop every few weeks or so.
  19. Re: Simulate Claustrophobia/Cabin Fever True it seems a bit much for something that would best be played up as a dramatic thing but at the same time it does give some very good ideas as to what to expect for everyone, PCs included. You probably don't need much more to the rules than that so go with it.
  20. Re: Campaign History, how did yours become dark? Honestly when doing a semi-realistic DC game all you really need to do is tweak someplace thats already bad for whatever reason. If you want the police to let them get away with some vigilante justice make sure that the (effective) police force is swamped. Meaning the number of cops that aren't apathetic and/or paid off don't have the manpower or are legally hogtied from doing their job. That second one would be an interesting motivator as the good police that are left start digging through the records and background of some murder victims and find that, lo and behold this person is actually a criminal (more like they can prove it).
  21. Re: Why are so many people upset that Cryptic is only using the Champions IP? Okay I got a friend working at Cryptic and he ran me through my first Champions game. From what he's said they're gonna start working with the engine they were planning on doing the Marvel Universe MMO with. According to him they were getting the engine set up to copy EVERY! power used in Marvel. I figure that should have some pretty good flexability. Honestly level based or not as long as there is flexibility I can deal with it.
  22. Re: Hero System - Champions - Fluff A friend of mine works at Cryptic and according to him they were already working on an engine that had a huge number of defined powers, while it won't actually be champions rules you'll be able to build the kind of character you want.
  23. Re: What were the best Superhero comics of the 90's? Robin Hawkworld (for a while it got worse as time progressed.) JLA
  24. Re: Do you use miniatures? Honestly for agents that your heroes are going to steamroll through get M&Ms or Hersheys kisses in the colored wrappers, then they have positive reinforcement for taking out the mooks. "Fighting evil was never so tasty!"
  25. Re: Space 1999 aka Space 2099 You should probably also make the base a major refit/resupply depot with it's own ore deposits and hydroponics gardens. Not to mention machine shops, labs and the like. I'd make it a HUGE A$$ asteroid so they have a chance to both dig into the asteroid for certain supplies and they have enough room to justify having all that extra junk at the base. The biggest problem with the run away asteroid theory is that they'd need a way to be self sufficient or regularly pass in range of the proper resources.
