  1. Re: Alternate Swords, cuz Katanas are overdone! Some western blades and thier useage. Zweihander: Zweihander Your big honking sword which was primarily used to break up pike formations. A variety or grips are used allowing for a great deal of flexibiility in it's use. Bastard Sword: Bastard Sword Probably the single most widely used sword in the movies this is a primary cutting weapon, but can be used to thrust and for infighting by grabbing the sword midway down the blade and using it in 'half sword' style. Arming sword Arming Sword Generally this is a generic refrence to any 1 handed sword ranging from the blades used by Vikings up to the one handed swords carried into the crusades. Genrally a cutting blade as well and often paried with a shield or buckler. Side Sword Side Sword A one handed sword with improved hand protection which was the first blade that was developed for civilian use. Before this point anyone who carried a sword was either a noble or a soldier, with a few exceptions. This is a cut and thrust weapon using bith the point and the edge as the situation demanded. Rapier: Rapier A totaly civian weapon that functioned as both defense and as 'bling' of it's time. This is primarily a thrusting weapon and delivers very little force with cuts, any cutting done with this weapon was done at either the hand or the face, neither of which would be lethal in most circumstances. Katzbalger Katzbalger A german short sword used primarily for close in fighting when pike lines ended up to close to fight well with thier pikes. Primarily used inn short cutting and slashing strokes. Cutlass: Cutlass Short choping sword used primarily on shipdeck where there wasn't room to swing arouna full sized saber or arming sword. Falchion Falchion Heavy chopping blade use din the middle ages against mail armor. Calvary Saber: Calvary Saber Annother tip heavy sword used primarily from horseback. Thrusting was unusual but not impossible bu in general was used ina manner not dis similar to a polo mallet. Dusack: Dusack Annother German chopping sword that was quite prevelant for a time in Germany. Smallsword Smallsword The sword that modern sport fencing is based on. This weapon was all about the point and could do nothing when used to cut.
  2. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Having done Aikido and wrestling I can tell you that it's hard to maintain a hold against someone who is good and is really trying to make you let go unless you get a pin or a very good joint lock in. Could Cyclops beat Batman in HTH, probably not but it wouldn't be to far fetched for him to be able to pull out an upset. Is he good enough to get in a good throw near the begining of the fight, yes.
  3. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Lets see, to make these believeable: 1: Really Cannonball should have just kept flying in a line until he had knocked out AWuaman, cheep but workable. 2: Batman dodging Cyclops's blasts in perfectly acceptable and quite honestly he should be able to judo throw Batman off him at least once giving him enough time for a follow up shot that could take Batman down. 3: Jean Grey holding off Superman with telepathy, now that has a much better chance of working. 4: Bishop vrs J'onn in HTH ... HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Stupid, like the man said
  4. Re: WWYCD: The Dark Side. Jaguar Pequino would become a feral monster lashing out instictivly at everything around here when she transformed (more Hulk like than anything) Corona snotty ultra hot teenager with powers, she'd be really more of an anoyance than anything else. Quantum"I'm taking over the world because you idiots have F*&^ed it up 20 times to many"
  5. Re: Help needed: Sadistic "April Fool's" Jokes Take some of the old classic, silly trick items and make them really Random/Lethal. SNapping gum packs that take off fingers. Trick Cigartettes with micro misiles (a la james bond) in them. Hot gum that contains Phosphorus/thermite. Congealing pies that suficate the peson that gets hit by them, or stangles them in eaten.
  6. Re: WWYCD: The Darkest Hour Quantum "Nice try kid, but no." at 30 ego and more than a few points of mental defense any effect would not last long if at all. If somehow he were to be effected he'd fly strait to the UN building and lay out everything he's been privy to as a government scientist that has been hidden. (He had been trying to get the information out somehow for months). As for traking him down he'd simply find a patern in his actions and then wait there invisible and give him a case of gravitic vertigo the likes of which would make most fighter pilots puke within seconds. Jaguar Pequino very Hulk like reactions, calm and nice like a kitten until something makes her mad then she tries to rip it's face off. The after effects of one of these rampages would be devistating to her. Once she's smelled him she can find him again. He'd be knocked out and on his way to super prison in short order. Thrum ORGY! Wouldn't get a thing done, would be spending all her time having sex, drinking and smoking some chronic. She'd get someone else in the group to do the actual hunting him down and then give him an object lesson in losing all control.
  7. Re: Ever do this? Pulled that in the oposite direction where I had a bunch of low level starting characters getting to play thier patrons for one adventure.
  8. Re: Fighting talk It's really funny, when I look at the rules that 10 points of martial maneuvers = a black belt I have to laugh. Honestly after 4-5 years of training you should be closer to 20 points of maneuvers than 10. Most martial artists I play usually have at least 20 points. The two I currently have have 25 and 25 points in maneuvers respectivly.
  9. Re: WWYCD: The True Champion has Arrived! Jaguar Pequino may or may not be one of the 10, if she is she'll request that it become a kick boxing match as her Capoeria style is really not suited for a strait boxing match. Quantum will most likely be one of the 10. He'd wait until later in the matches and if he was stuck fighting he'd crank his mass up to 3 K Tonnes and start swinging. Corona No way is she fighting with that guy.
  10. Re: VVP and AP limits VPPs really are balanced for what they do, the control cost is the actual balance mechanism. If I have Mr Anything who can do anything at will (at 60 active points) with no limitations he's paying 150 points for it. Also if he uses a 60 active point power he either has to put limitations on the power or he can only have one full strength power at any one time. I buy 1 60 ap power outside of any framework I only spend 60 points. Or I buy 4 60ap powers in a EC for that same 150 points, and I can use them all at the same time. Sure Mr Anything can do anything but that guy with the EC will still turn out fin if they duke it out.
  11. Re: Hit Locations for Melee (particularly Fantasy/Mediaeval) combat A couple of things I've learned in historical fencing. 1: You are never just trying to hit them, you are trying to hit them somewhere specific, always. 2: Unless you have a serrious reach advantage you almost never take a shot at the lower leg, unless you are behind a shield.
  12. Re: Power help - how would you do this? That would be a limited TK for the smiplest build. Telekensis has nothing to do with Physical/Mental it is simply the way you apply strength at range without stretching.
  13. Re: The Second Stringers A friend of mine had a joke group refered to as the "Handi-capables" that included such reveared (and I use the term loosely) heros as: Crash Course: Speedsteer + Narcolepsy Epicenter: Grand mal epilepsy prone brick Lucky: Parapalegic Capoeria Master There were others but I can't remember thier names / power sets.
  14. Re: Re-Imaged Hero(ines) 'Floating away on her glider cape as the police arrived, the young vigilante known as Wonder Woman left three members of the Giovanni crime syndicate standing in front of the local resturant they were sent to wreck when the owner refused to give into extortion.' Wonder Woman's power involves a psychic attack that leaves the target increadibly dazed and confused often leading to the police walking up to them while they mutter questions like "I wonder what happened to the money from than bank heist I pulled last week." Every mook thats ever been questioned always begins with "I wonder".
  15. Re: WWYCD: The Nebula Affair Jaguar Pequino "So whats the penalty for you interfering with an officer of the law? because thats what I am." She wouldn't start a fight with Nebula, but would tell her exactly what her actions entail on the game world she's on. "You keep trying to interfere with our laws and our planet will consider it an act of war and will most likely capture you, try you and execute you or kill you where you stand." Corona "Lady if you need my help, you're F&^%ing pathetic" Quantum "Try to dimensionally send me somewhere and you'll find you can't." Quantum has the power set to nullify her EDM making her a less than stellar energy projector. Then it's goodnight for nebula and a long stay in a prison for her.
  16. Re: Re-Imaged Hero(ines) Oneko Tsujimoto was your average college exchange student on her way to a costume party. Dressed as a cat (a joke on her name) she walked down the street twoards the house where the party was being held. Then an out of control car jumped the curb and barreled down on an old lady walking down the sidewalk. She started running but knew she couldn't make it in time, she wished she was closer, she had to save her but there wasn't enough time. Then a hard edged shadow appeared directly in front of her and she dove through it. She re-appeared right next to te old lady and tackled her out of the way of the oncomming car. After quickly checking the old lady was alright she quickly took off. As she moved she found these shadows appeared on some instinctual level and she made it back to her appartment in no time at all. A short time later with a revamped costume and some practice in both the martial arts and her powers Sgadowcat was born.
  17. Re: How effective do you feel weapons should be Putting holes in ships with small arms would be overkill, putting holes in ships with man portable weapons is not the same thing and nopt quite overkill. I'm sure there is an exception or two but most ships should be practically invulnerable to small arms fire.

  19. Re: Lost and Found super-ads LOST: 17" laptop that never needs to be plugged in with rather irritating AI installed in primary OS. Whatever you do don't order anything online.
  20. Re: Zweihander Sword Art Each of those three ways is one way you should learn to use it within a single school. Of those the 2nd is not quite like a hand and a half due to differing leverage, blade length and quillion design. And for all you people who want to talk sword here are some of the general terms used when describing a sword. Foibe: Generally the top 3rd of the blade, used for your cuts and thrusts. Forte: The bottom 3rd of the blade generally where your parrying is done. Quillions: The cross piece that forms the guard right above your dominant hand on most swords. Pommel: The metal knob on the end of the sword hilt which holds the sword together and is used for pummeling someone if they get to close to swing a sword at them. Hilt: the 'handle' of the sword consisting of the quillions, grip and pommel. Riccasso: on some swords the blade near the hilt is not shapped down into a diamond on wedge shape but retains the bar shap of the blade that extends under the hilt. This is what you usually grap past the quillions on a Zweihander. Fuller: the so called 'blood groove' has nothing to do with making blood flow easier but is a way of lightening the blade without causing and structural issues with the blade.
  21. Re: Day of 1001 Superheroes Don Guiseppe cursed out loud as he surveyed the wreck that was once one of the largest warehouses of contraband goods in the Tri-state area. He quickly looked about the large wrecked space finally seeing the silver dagger he was expecting stuck into a support beam. He strode over to the dagger and quickly pulled it from the wooden beam. While he wanted nothing more than to gut the damm vigilante that had been systematically wrecking his buisness he had to admit that the bastard certanly knew his knives. After holding the knife for a few seconds he quickly came to the descion that after that vigilatne was caught he'd gut him with one of his own knives. After surveying the damage he climbed back into his Lime and begain the ride back to his office, he had alot to do tonight. Silver Dagger sat at the small table and watched the Don as he made his way back through the office, the silver dagger that laid on the seat next to the Don was an exact replica of the dagger that floated over the scying pool. Technically it was the same dagger, magically duplicated and a perfect conduit for the scying magics that were being used. Silver Dagger grinned as he watched the Don take the knife with him. Each knife he had left had allowed him to spy on someone withing the Don's originzation giving him intellegence on where and when to strike. But now this was perfect, the Don himself had one of the knives, with any luck he could take down the whole family soon. Next up: Snap Dragon
  22. Re: Zweihander Sword Art What was common was for the foible of the blade to be sharp and the ricasso to be rather dull. You do your cutting and stabbing with the end, where there is better leverage for doing damage. If the edge is sharp it also is more likely to crack nessesitating costly repairs to a sword. Having a really sharp blade would make a difffenernce mostly when dealing with light cuts against relativly light armor. Heavy mail and plate will almost always keep you from getting cut by a sword. What it won't do is allow you to ignore the force behind a 4 pound 4 foot long lever arm.
  23. Re: Point Efficiency vs. Concept My advice, work from concept down to point effiiciency. You can make any character more efficient by making changes but you need to work from the concept first. That being said the concept is fine, we're I GMing the character I'd possibly ask a few questions but the idea would fly with me.
  24. Re: Zweihander Sword Art Given the German love of grappling and it's integration into their armed arts, here is my idea of the style of a doppelsoldier. Martial Block Martial Escaoe Martial Strike Takedown Joint Break Martial Bind Reversal Martial Disarm Offensive Strike Defensive strike WEapon elements Blades Unarmed Skills WF common melee weapons PS Solider There are a couple of things to note when dealing with the Zweihander. 1st: If you use weapon lengths the wielder can grip the ricasso and change it from a Long weapon to a medium weapon. (one could also argue that you could sacrafice some damage for OCV as the weapon does not have the same ammount of force imparted but is much more responsive to use) 2nd: When faced with heavy armor one could reverse the weapon and attempt a "morteschlage" or murder stroke using the quilkons like a pick. In this case treat the weapon as a pick of the same size with penalty to OCV (While you use it in the manner of a pick it is not balanced anything like one)
  25. Re: Imperial Ground Equipment No they had to blow it up, they sent a team of about a dozen men down there. If the Imperials got control of the shield back they could cause problems with the plans to destroy the Death Star. A dozen men don't hold a faculty, they wreck it.
