  1. Re: Weapon Familiarity and Reality Part of it really is the weapon, a flail takes alot of extra practice to use correctly while mass weapons share similar characteristics across the board and someone well versed with axes won't have a hard time at all dealing with hammers, maces or picks. I'd work it like this: Common weapon you have a similar skill with -1 OCV Common weapon you don't have a similar skill with -2 OCV Uncommon you have a similar skill with -2 OCV Uncommon weapon you don't have a similar skill with -3 OCV
  2. Re: WWYCD (kind of): Advice Time for Scarlet! Jaguar Pequino Don't do it to silence the nay sayers and to go 'I told you so'. If you truly wish to out yourself do it because you believe it is best for you. Nay sayers rarely know anything and merely speak because they wish to feel important. Corona Man your parents are jerks. If they knew and cared they'd have figured out already who you are. Or at the very least been talking to you more about all of your sudden disappearances and the like.
  3. Re: X-Men: The Next Generation campaign on Hero Central Union Jack Brian Braddock isn't a mutant, he is however Captain Britain and does have super powers. Everything said that he wasn't a mutant and there wouldn't be much of a chance that his children would be a mutant. His sister Betsy told him that being a super hero negated the odds and he was going to have a mutant child, after all she was a mutant so the genes were floating around. He laughed at her when she made the joke. Less than 2 years later his son Bruce Jackson Braddock was born. Bruce showed all the intelligence of his physicist father and was growing into the build more akin to Captain Britain and less of Brian Braddock. By age 12 Brian figured has his sister had been right all along, Bruce was becoming far more than a natural athlete and Brian confirmed it when he caught his son working out in the car garage, bench pressing one of the sports cars. By age 16 Bruce was a bit of a terror at the private school he went to. While in no means a bully, Bruce had a strong sense of right and wrong and also had gained a mischievous streak that had only been magnified by the lessons he had learned from his aunt Betsy. While rarely caught he had been caught a couple of times and his father decided that he should be sent somewhere that was more used to dealing with someone with Bruce's ability, which now meant the MEF. Thanks to his aunt Betsy he didn't end up going to a MEF school but instead dropped out of the sports team he had been on and focused more on his studies earning himself several scholarships and a bachelors degree in materials engineering by the age of 21. When the call came out for the X-men to reform Bruce, decided to answer the call and make sure that a Braddock was on the current team. He's currently working at getting a PHD in Materials Engineering at NYU and spends his time alternating between the X manor and New York to finish his doctoral classes. Powers Bruce possesses superhuman strength, endurance, reflexes and speed. His healing is also enhanced, although not to the extent of someone like wolverine, recovering from serious wounds in a matter of a day or two. Also while not superhuman his senses and intellect are both nearing the top end of the human spectrum. Appearance Standing around 6 foot 2 Bruce is a well muscled man in the prime of his life. Blond hair, blue eyes and a dazzling smile make him seem like the poser boy for herodom. In uniform he has a basic dark blue body suit trimmed with red, possessing a cowl style mask similar to his fathers mask that he wears as Captain Britain. The only other thing the suit possesses is s small British flag on the sleeve, in the same location as the flag on a soldiers fatigues. Out of costume he often falls under the 'preppy look' with lots of polo shirts and khakis, he will on occasion dress down or up as the situation demands it.

  5. Re: Killing damage and armor A couple of options that we've either used or tested over the years: 1: If you don't penetrate the DEF of the armor it's a flat x2 multiple. 2: Set the stun lotto as 2-4 not 1-5. If you are going to use your friend's option I suggest that you don't apply the non resistant defenses at all because they way he has it alot of stun is stopped by the Resistant defenses
  6. Re: WWCYD: Lethal Force is Authorized Jaguar Pequino even in a situation where lethal force is authorized tends to stay away from using it. It's part of the animal in her and she tried to keep that from the surface as it still scares her because there are still points where she's practically relishing killing something. Corona is pretty much in the same boat before and after she's not paticularly lethal at any time. Quantum could easily be lethal in dealing with the aliens. Probably will be if he actually is fighting them but more than likely when the fighting actually occurs he will be doing things that destroy the alien support structure. Snapdragon isn't paticularly lethal either. Since she'd spend alot of her time sowing discord using her shapeshifting powers her tactics probably wouldn't change much. Although her sowing discord would probably become more spectacular.
  7. Re: Favorite Anti-Brick tricks? Snapdragon had a great way to deal with bricks, get them in the water. Since she could breathe underwater it made perfect sense and her martial grab was good enough to make them work at getting out so she could keep them fighting her and for air at the same time.
  8. Re: Starships, Speed & Game Balance Basically the cap sets a minimum and maximum each die can count as. If I hit a capitol ship with a character grade weapon each 1 counts as a 1 each 2 counts as a 2. Because the cap between those scales is 1-2, every number over 2 still counts as a 2 when you add it up. So even if you roll a 4 a 5 and a 6 each die roll only counts as a 2.
  9. Re: Starships, Speed & Game Balance Okay basically you institute a series of caps on the dice rolls. However in certain situations the minimum cap comes into play. For a hero game it would work like this. Character shooting at a character 1-6 Character shooting at a speeder 1-5 Character shooting at a starship 1-3 Character shooting at a Capitol Ship 1-2 What does this mean? Take an attack roll 2 5 6 for a total of 13. That same attack roll becomes a 12 against a speeder (now acting as a 2 5 5) It becomes a 8 against a starship (now acting as a 2 3 3) It works the same way when dealing damage. I fire a heavy blaster rifle and hit rolling 3d6K for damage and get a 3 5 6. Against a character I get 14 Against a speeder I get 13 Against a starship I get 9 Against a capitol ship I get 6
  10. Re: Starships, Speed & Game Balance The d6 starwars had an interesting idea for how to deal with scale, you limited the top/bottom of the dice rolled. All dice rolls went for high numbers so they would cap the top, and sometimes the bottom. Example: Oro Antillies has a 5d+2 in blasters, he tries to shoot a freighter. he rolls 5d6 and adds 2. his rolls are 1 1 3 4 5. Against annother character he'd have a 16. since shooting against a starship is listed as a 3-6 range his roll becomes a 20 as both 1s act as 3s in this case. His heavy blaster does 5d of damage and he rolls 2 3 4 6 6 for a total of 21, his damage range however is listed as 1-3 so he does a grand total of 14 for damage. Institue interscale mods like that and give an adder to some powers +5 Out of scale to represet weapons that are made for a larger or smaller scale than the people/vehicles that use them.
  11. Re: Shoujo Ninja Hero A Series that didn't take of in the US called Natsuki Crisis is really good for the shoujo feel. Here's a fight scene from the end of Ep1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfvlgVVoPSc
  12. Re: How do you keep your dark knights from going "squish"? Generally, as has been noted, you low def characters usually have something going for them to offset the low DEF. A high DC invibility or something else. Generally when the 'crunchies' get shot at I have the villian spread the blast a few dice because "I'm gonna take down that f%&*(& dark avenger". No one is a super powered game is going to be so low on the DEF scale that a 10d blast will be close to leathal. One shotting them and causing body, yes. But not enough to send them into the hospital or the coroners office.
  13. Re: "Faulty" Power to track correctly against mental defenses you might want to make a mental illusion: only to 'black out' a sense -X side effect -1/4 Let the side effect be a control roll, if you fail you turn off the wrong sense. I actually think that it's worth something as a power limitation as you will most likely shut off a sense that isn't as useful as the one you were trying to get rid of.
  14. Re: Another Brick in the Wall (Tell me about your Brick!) The one and only brick I've ever played was Knockout, a kinetic absorption based brick who was in game that started at 550, making her one of the most powerful characters I have ever ran as well. As for her origin it can be summed up very quickly. "What's that?" *dakka dakka dakka dakka* "hey, stop that!" *Meaty twack then the sound of sundering concrete* "Holy SH^* I have super powers." The oddest one was one a friend ran named Gastonia who was your sweet hispanic girl who turned into a 50 foot tall ankilisaur-ish dinosaur.
  15. Re: Staves I've always found the idea that staves are an unusual weapon to be rather silly. Just about every peasant anywhere in any time period could pick up a long stick for the purpose of hitting something, they're cheap and plentiful in just about every enviroment except for a few places. In any european based society WF clubs, daggers and staves would be appropriate for everyman skills. Also commonly in western tradion a stave was used more like a polearm.
  16. Re: Would you allow it?: A FF buster You want something that can cut through forcefields, link a supress or dispel to taste on the attack in question
  17. Re: Cool Guns for your Games The FN90 always looks cool, plus it has that clear magazine so you can look and see how many rounds you have left.
  18. Re: WWYCD: Grrrl Power- emphasis on Grrr Jaguar Pequino If she ever finds the so and so who did this they're losing they're losing their lungs. After years of training and meditation she finally has the raging jungle beast part of her under control only to have someone muck it all up again. Quantum would probably be a little behind on the uptake as the women he usually hangs around are already more than a little agressive and belligerent already, being from a female culture that is far more advanced than 'modern earth'. That being said most minor verbal abuse will roll off him like water off a duck. If he's threatened physically he will demonstrate exactly why it is not a good idea to push around someone who can concentrate his mass until he weighs 360 tonnes. Corona much like Peter Parker she was always more confident with the mask on. What would really change is how she treats people at school, she still gets treated like some brain dead bimbo just because she looks like a comic book swimsuit model at age 15. That and Advesary that smug 'alpha male' jock jerk on the team. They will have the facts of life explained to them and the anatomically improbably acts that will go along with a failure to comply.
  19. Re: OIHID and/or Focus My quick rule of thumb for each OIF: Powered armor: Iron Man OHID: Same guy with more power: Captain Marvel (DC) Multi Form: Changes in more than just power level: Hulk

  23. Re: Ranger Trainees As far as fighting skills western traditons are generally armed traditions for many resons. That being said a ranger would most likely be well versed in some or all of these weapons: Axes, both hand and battle Sword, Falchion or other gravity style blade (excellent for hacking away underbrush) Quarter staff Dagger Bow If they specialize in animal training a net, lasso or whip might also be appropriate
  24. Re: Designing Sword Schools For the purpose of description using the garde would not be a "you put your arm in the way and suck it up" kind of block a large shield would make. You'd make more of a deflecting blow to the flat in order to defend against a sword, example "you counter punch with your armored fist, catching the flat of the blade forcing your opponents blade in a harmless arc up and over your head." As far as descriptions of stance, at first thought the armored arm would be in a modified boxing stance. The arm would be coiled for a quick strike and the hand would be lower than the traditonal face guarding stance of a modern boxer. The hand would probably float between the shoulder and nipple line rising and falling as the user figures out the opponents tells.
  25. Re: Designing Sword Schools If you want to start making up the schools the best thing to do is answer a bunch of questions about it, by answering the questions you get a better design for what they should and have to know. Things in () are either clarifications to the questions or examples tohelp the thinking process along. Is it a composite style or does it have 1 primary weapon. (In a composite style the same techniques are modified for each weapon that is used but all follow the same "rules" of use) What, if any, things or ideas does the style place emphasis in? (Known to be highly defensive, offensive, fond of trick strikes ... etc) Is the style a regonal varriation of annother style? Traditonally taught to a sub group of a population? (Samurai, Monks, nobles?) Primarily used where? (Dueling field, self defense, battlefield?) Primary ideology of the style: (The style should have overriding priciples that determine how stylist would use the style. For instance shipboard cutlass primarily uses high to low cuts as in the press of close combat they are the only cuts that don't tend to chop into the guy next to you.) Any techniques no longer used, and why: (A dueling style is generally more restricted in what techniques are used but if it was derived from annother fighting style the other techniques might be taught but not used.)
