Reading over some of the disadvantages like "Does not use Hit Locations" ........ I will be using Hit Locations in my campaign ( when it starts ), I'm also using 'Sectional Armor' I was wondering However about 'Fire Ball' type spells and Hit locations. Is it normal usage that : RKA AoE Spells Use Hit Locations? Do I then check different locations for each person in the blast area? Or do I make Spells Cheaper by using a 'Does Not Use Hit Location' Limitation? After all a small fire ball such as Starting PCs will be able to have has much more affect if it is able to be aimed at the 'Face' where few NPCs will have any armor. Any advice on how this …

Does anyone use the multipliers mentioned in Fantasy HERO to give mages more spells in their campaigns? Or do they always make their mages pay full price so they aren't so muhc more powerful than the fighters and crafty types? I'm not advocating one or the other -- merely asking for information.

If you've got a city of roughly Bronze Age technology... With a population of between 3,000 and 12,000 people... And magic exists (D&Desque high-magic system) but it isn't a substitute for solid engineering principles (no teleportation gates and the like, but it can help you build roads)... And you've got a large temperate ocean nearby... And you've got a large temperate forest teeming with wildlife nearby... Is there a way to feed the people without large-scale agriculture or animal husbandry? A few other caveats: The people do farm a little, but huge labor-intensive plots are out of the question... But, the people are happy t…

Have you ever wanted to take a published setting and do something entirtely different with the material than what the authors intended? I've always wanted to use the bare bones of Harn (the map, the basic profiles, etc.) and do something different with it. Harn is low fantasy, but what I wanted to use it as the backdrop for something epic? I've also wondered about using Medieval Eurpoe for that sort of thing. Maybe changing the hisotry around a bit, and making the Mongol invasion into something entirely different.

I am trying to build these like 'magical grenades', they are 'expensive' in monetary terms, hard to get 'parts' for, and only 'governments' are likely to have any of them. They are to be fired out of Trebuchets and such like, and when they hit something they break, and go boom!. In my setting they do the Campaign maximum damage and are the biggest 'hurty thing' you can get. I'd also like that when they hit, PCs may do the "I jump on the Grenade" thing ( and probably die ) to smother some of the effect. They are dangerous to use, as if someone shoots a 'Fire' spell at the launcher, the ammunition goes off - bang -, A Wagon accident whilst moving them around …

I'm a little lost on what to do next for my campaign. I've got a basic idea on what should happen, but I'd like some alternatives. First, the characters and players and a brief recap on the last session. Feng the Fierce, a former slave gladiator and wulfen. Desires to be "Somebody Important" and has been working steadily towards this goal. He has managed to acquire 4 properties and a minor lordship by being a secret "go to" man for the King's Chancellor. Straight up combat monster and full blown megolamaniac. Player has a thirst for power. Pyra, a feline fire mage. Arrogant with a touch of cowardice and greed. Ooooh, gold! My pretty! Has a wide array of …

I have a scene in a future game that requires the PC's to fight a hive minded race which they have never encountered. I want to talor the race after the Slivers in a card game I saw once called "Magic: The Gathering." According to the card game, an individual Sliver has a single ability, but is otherwise weak. When other Slivers are nearby that have a different ability, they gain the ability of their fellow Sliver. AKA, if one can fly, they all can fly. If one is very strong, they all are very strong. It goes withoug saying... you DO NOT want a bunch of these things near each other. Anyone have suggestion on how to build such a creature?

I was looking over my copy of MMM and saw the Ran-Tari. I don't know why, but there seems to be something somewhat lovable in six-foot sentient frogs who have sucvh a bizarre method of child-rearing. I'm wondering hopw to use them as a potneital PC race. The hardest part of the mindest to get into would be that they have no concept of family. A Ran-Tari probabyl doesn't know who his father or mother are, and it doesn't matter. They are of a community and probably aren't even names until that community accepts them. And their infancy is spend just trying to survive in an animaliostic state. Only when they have survived that stage and are brought into the community do…

Someone is going to skewer me for this, but what would be a good racial template for a species of six-foot-tall sentient chickens? Assume they are either flightless or can only fly for very short bursts, and that they have some way to grasp and hold objects (maybe not enough to pick a lock, but enough to hold a weapon and not look any more stupid than giant chickens usually look). Chickens are pretty belligerent brids, and these would be no diffierent. If their non-sentient smaller cousins are on the menu of just about everyone else, they are bound to hold a grudge. They might even go berserk at the slightest opportunity.

I am recruiting players for a new Turakian Age game. The game will take place on Saturday evenings...time to announced. I would like to start the thrird week in August. I already have 2 players and have 4 more open slots. Anyone interested can e-mail me at loboestrella@hotmail.com Let me know what gaming experience you have, what Fantasy Hero experience you have, whether you are familiar with the Turakian Age (and if you have used/played in any of the published adventures). And what type of a character you might be interested in playing. Exact characters will be selected/generated after we have talked....

I have been kicking around a few ideas for this and none of them work out the way I want them to, so I figured I'd post here and see what people think. What I am trying to do is make a magical amulet that causes all the spells the wearer has to gain an Area Effect. They could choose between whether or not to use the effect but would affect ANY spell they have, from a fire blast to a healing spell, from a skill bonus to a skill penalty, and everything in between. I have thought about a transform that lasts for only a single action (-2 Limitation?) or a naked Area Effect advantage with a +2 Advantage of "Any Spell' and setting a maximum Active Point limit to the …

I've been lurking and reading for a while on the forums, sampling the good ideas and getting the feel of Fantasy Hero, 5th ed. I've been working on a campaign setting for a couple of years - - well, it started out as the setting to a novel and grew into an RPG setting. Thus, I'm presenting my website detailing the milieu to my peers. http://primeval.logomancer.net It's still largely in development. The magick system is fairly basic and I'm busy expanding some of the "flavors" of it. There aren't a lot of professions yet, but the races are somewhat fleshed out. I'm detailing it all as I go; as most GM's do. At any rate, your input and opinions will be welc…

I would like volunteer help from one of the Fantasy HERO gurus. I am producing a page for my Slayers continuation series Slayers Inheritance, about the adventures of Lina and Gourry's daughter, Anya Inverse. In addition to the usual art, HTML and layout worries, I was thinking of putting up HERO System stats for the major characters on the site. So I was wondering if I could get some someone who could help both rate the characters and format the sheets in such a way that they'll look good on a stand-alone webpage. I'd also like HD files to be available for download as well.

One of my favorite magic items is a sword with a blade that can ignite magical fire at the wielder's command. The wielder would not be harmed by the heat of the flames, but anyone struck by the sword would be burned in addition to getting cut. How can this be modelled in the HERO system?

Pardon me for this, but I'm really just thinking out loud. In my fantasy world, there is little use of heavy cav -- no heavily armored knights on big horses in massed charges. Wars tend to be fought in skirmishes, often in heavy terrain (forest, hills, that sort of thing). The question is, why? Here's my thinking: 1. Magic. The use of powerful spells reduces the efficiency of a cavalry charge. If all it takes is a couple of fireballs to break up your line and spook your horses, you're not going to invest a lot of energy into equiping/training heavy knights. 2. "The Book." About a thousand years ago, demonic armies roamed the earth. One man formed an a…

hi: I'm trying to create a Sleep spell that fits into my campaign, but I'm having a little trouble understanding Fantasy Hero and FRED when it comes to - Uncontrolled and the like My Game has fairly low AP cap and most spells usually cost around 5 points I have a Mana stat for spells which is equivalent to END The affect I wanted to create: The Mage casts a spell, ( possibly) at a huge drain to himself, He designates an area. All people In that area Lose Stun, the loss builds up over a period to a set maximum ( about 36 ) They are then asleep, which will last at least 5 Mins, even though their Stun comes back, Any Loud noise, or boot in the head etc will wake…

I have the 5th Edition Revised rule book and the 5th Edition Fantasy Hero, But I haven't got the new UMA or such like. I was trying to design a manuever that specialized swordsmen used for breaking through mage's Force Fields. Then In Fanatasy hero I come across maneuvers like ( On Page 387 ) Chop Smash, -2 OCV +1 DCV Weapon +4DC Strike Looking through the Old Ninja Hero and UMA, you couldn't make a maneuver quite this good.... I was expecting to get the max damage at -2 OCV -2 DCV Full Phase +XDC Strike ( -4Pts ) (-4Pts ) + ( 3 Pts Per DC Killing ) What Is the Biggest Killing Damage maneuver available now? It's to be used in a…

Okay, here is the situation. I'm trying to expand a campaign world outward and at the same time, take the areas I have already designed and give them more details. I have an official webpage for this campaign setting but because I've got a bit more work before I'm willing to publicly share it, I'm probing about for people who will assist getting some initial world improvements in place. I'll make a post after my lunch to give a general background for the world. If you have an interest, I'll send you a PM on how to contribute in a bit. And if you are just interested in the campaign in general, keep an eye on this thread or look out for a new thread from me whe…

I thought I'd share to give people ideas, and to recommend the books if you are so inclined. Jim Butcher has a new series out (the "Codex Aleria" series--good stuff), wherein most everyone has at least one "fury". It's a sort of elemental that they can call upon for a variety of effects. They usually "discover" them during the pre/early teen years, though it hasn't been said how this happens. In rural and wilderness settings the furies are very strong. In urbania, less so, but they're also more skilled. Academias believe the wilderness furies are strong because they are more primal, wilder, less tamed. They also believe that the urban furies are weaker but more skill…

I was just reading this story over on LiveScience: http://www.livescience.com/environment/wolf_ecosystem_041209.html It got me to thinking about my Monsters article(s). I came up with this food chain, to simulate the relationship between a number of critters. Should things ever go this far? Certainly, according to the chart, if one of these things vanished, you'd have a population problem elsewhere... That could be an adventure in itself...

Okay, you may have read my World of Edean thread. It's no where near completion, but I am running out of year. One thing I'd like to add is the option of combo attacks. So, help me out o' players of Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, BOF, and Suikoden How would you model the two (or more) character special attacks? Simply buy the attack at half (or less) strength for each "member" of the team and combine damage assuming of course that they make their Teamwork and To Hit rolls? Is there a better way?
