Hi folks: I have been working on a potential Fantasy Hero convention game where the PCs are a group of rebels fighting against a usurper. Theorhetically, the leader of their group is a character called the Smiling Fox. However, in a twist, at any one time, any one of the characters can appear as the Smiling Fox. In any event, the name "Smiling Fox" is a placeholder -- I'd like somehing better unless people think it works. Comments? Suggestions? Rod

I'm converting some very high level DnD characters over from my old Campaign to Hero. This is going mostly smoothly. the trouble I hit is dealing with CSLs. How high should they get? What is a "realistic/reasonable" amount for what would be an 18th-20th level character? There aren't many high point NPCs floating around in the main rulebooks to base comparisons off of. I know the Uber-Ninja in Ninja Hero has +10/+11 with all of his stuff active at once. Is this about right? Has anyone played a 75+75 game up to 250-400 pts? If so, where did your fighter's CSLs get to? Just curious as to what other's think.

I am sure there is one out there but I have not seen it. Is there a Timeline for the Hero Universe that lays out when events happen in the Heroverse? For Example: Turakian Age 0-1000 PSL Valdorian Age 1001-1911 PSL... I was reading in the Valdorian age about one of the Islands (can't recall the name) and it made a reference to it being occupied by Cthulu type creatures during the Turakian Age.

A while back I picked up WW's Changeling game and more recently I've finished reading American Gods and Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman of Sandman fame. I'm hankering to either do a one shot or a con game that puts characters in a similar world. For those that don't know both of these settings are sort of like Alice in Wonderland, Xanth, Thomas Covenant, Woman on the Edge of Time or Oz where a character in the normal world gets sucked into a fantasy world somehow connected to the real one. The characters never quite know if the world is real or not, but ultimately they don't care because they have a better time there. They're usually thought to be insane by the general popu…

I tried to make six pre-gen characters for DragonCon in time but it looks like I'm not quite going to make it. Can someone help me out by making two simple characters to help me get to six. I need two, characters built on 25 + 50 points. I've built a Knight, a Berzerking Axeman, a Fire Mage, and a Divine Spellcaster. I could use two non-spell casting types. It is GREATLY appreciated.

Pages 60, 74, 90, 129, 146 60: It is clear that the unnamed river flows south from the Thurisian Mountains and then east past Sollare. Then it flows to the Bernina River and something unspecified happens: does it branch into two rivers, the Bernina and the unnamed river which continues east? Or does it join with a river flowing west to form the Bernina? The same thing happens again at the Ettinstone with the River Loskell. The text describes this east/west river as the Ordring, which splits off to form the Loskell. The same thing happens a third time and continues on page 74: where the Tarnwater apparently joins into the Ordring. What happens here? It can…

So how long is an "Age" anyway? I get the decade, century, millenium, and I know an Era is pretty flexible. But is there a commonly accepted time frame for an Age?

Hello all, I am working on a sort of 'mini-game' that will allow my players and I to play out the creation of the game world. The idea was inspired by the out of print game system; ARIA. The first part that I'm working on is compiling a list of Special Abilities and Disadvantages that are genetic and thus representative of an entire species, such as all Dwarves are stumpy, all Orcs have fangs, all Elves are long-lived...etc. In order to get a rather extensive list, I would love it, if you folks could post any ideas that you have. Below is what I have already. Eventually, I'll post a link to the list as a prefab for use among the folks here like the Maste…

Well I was pretty excited. I finally got a copy of the Valdorian Age and had some time to sit down and start reading it last night... Typically I try not to be critical of other people's work, especially since I have not been published, but I had to put down the book after the first 40 pages just because of all the corny names and the B-Movie fantasy gangs. I could not believe that I read that there is a gang in Lowtown that wears panties in their belts to associate them with their gang.... I can put up with a lot of idiosyncrasy but that about killed me.... I have read a boat load of bad campy fantasy in my life but this was just too much especially for a high end pr…

Just thought I'd let everyone know about this book. It's called Legendary Heroes-The Heart of Madaen and it's awesome. I only mention it because I love role-playing and fantasy and this book captures it perfectly. Anyone who enjoys role-playing at all, you need to get a copy of this book. Had a friend recomend it and I got a copy of boarders.com. It was worth it. Someone needs to make a sourcebook or something from this guys stuff, it's great.

Currently, my homebrew world has three major magical systems. Wizardry (book learning style magic), Divine, and Sorcery (inborn talent). The following is a very rough draft of ideas about how Sorcery should work. Let me know what you think. All sorcerers have Legacies. Legacies are aspects of the power within them, something they are born with (or steal later in life). These tend to follow in bloodlines, so your sorcerous child will usually demonstrate the same legacies you have. Legacies would be things like: Flame Born, Wind Born, Elf Born, Dragon Born, Scion Born (my name for Angels), etc. Someone from different bloodlines of Sorcerers could have mixed lega…

I've just finished UY Book 19 Fathers and Sons and have decided to get back to my UY character sheets for HERO. First, I want to revise Zato-Ino and Jei (which I originally wrote up some time ago) and make them more in-line with material published in FH and DC (adding things like "Deadly Blow" for example). Then I intend to start on the rest of the UY cast. Aside from Usagi himself, who else do you think is important enough to warrant a character sheet? (or... who would you want to see?) I know I want to do some generic ninja character sheets, as well as a generic hannya (female demon) character sheet, as Sakai uses them quite often. Here is my current list of possib…

i have a weird project for Fantasy HERO: a bizarre take-two-unalike-things-and-mix-them-in-a-blender idea which i currently refer to as the Marmalade Prince. Lady Miki lives in a castle in a fanatsy world with her noble parents. All this changes when her parents tell her that, with the permission of the King, they have agreed to swap partners with another couple of similar birth and move together into a larger castle! Lady Miki is horrified -- but when she is introduced to the other couple's son, the enigmatic Lord Yuu, she realzes that her life is going to be a lot more complicated from now on. None of these devlopments sit well with Captain Ginta, the young gr…

I'm starting to think about - yet another - Fantasy setting of the High kind. The thing that I'm wondering about is whether to include a Magic Gift Perk or not, and if I do, how much to charge for it. To make it easier for me, I'll probably use the schools and spells outta FH Grimoire I and II (the latter should be in the mail now!), with a spell multiplier of 3. So, has anyone any suggestions?

I'm planning on starting a new Fantasy Hero campaign soon, and I was toying with the idea of having CSL's, Skill Levels, and skills increase in character point cost as their values increase. Sort of a ramping cost, if you will. My idea for CSL's was this: Characters cannot start off with more than X Combat Skill Levels. Additional CSL's after character creation cost normal amount plus the number of current levels you have in character points divided by 2 (round up). Improving CSL's is still the normal cost in character points. Example: If your character has 4 3-pt CSL's and no 5-pt CSL's, then to buy another 3-pt CSL will cost (3+2) character points. A 5-level…

I'm in the throes of designing a new setting for my FH game. The basic idea is that in the area, there are two magical traditions: the Church/cult magic of the Sea people, who now pretty much rule the lands and the magic of the original inhabitants which is much more mysticism/shamanism oriented. These two cultures live pretty much in harmony (think Shintoism/Buddhism in Japan) these days, although it wasn't always so. Here's the problem - I want each type of magic to have quite distinct "feels". I've done the Church magic - it's based on VPPs, so the casters are quite flexible in spellcasting, although total power is limited ('cos VPPs are expensive). The VPPs a…

Lethal Clubs (Killing Damage Not Normal)? I've been thinking about and experiment with changing Clubs, Staves, etc. to Killing Damage Weapons instead of the Normal Damage standard used in the Hero System. Ends: More Lethal to unarmored people (More BODY Damage vs. 0 rDEF) Less Lethal to heavily armored people (Less BODY Damage vs. 1+rDEF) More likely to Knockout (More STUN) Means: Killing Damage instead of Normal Damage = More Lethal Reduced Penetration (-¼) = Less Lethal vs. Armored +1 STUNx (+¼) = More Likely to Knockout What do you think about the current Lethality, or lacktherof, of Clubs and this proposal? THANKS!

Okay, I dunno how many of you have played these games but I love them and the third in the series gave me some more ammo for HERO ideas. Magic apparently has two forms. Sorcery and Rune Use. Sorcery is, by all appearances at this time limited to Summoning and Teleport spells. most offensive and defensive magics are based on Runes. Its pretty easy to set up runes. they are Multipowers with 4 slots and Charges, and they are Foci. You can Buy or sell them. The thing is the better "mage" (ie Level) you are the charges you get and the more slots you can use. Runes apparently are divied up into three groups, Lesser, Greater, and True. True Runes are plot devices th…

I'm developing an order of mages in my Fantasy Hero game that uses magick in a ritual setting, i.e., requiring a certain number of participants for the spell to be cast. From the product description online, it sounds like there maybe rules for this in the Valdoran Age, but I haven't had a chance to check out the book itself. Are there any standard limits for requiring more than one caster? Thanks in advance.

OK.. I want to make a character who cannot me located or identified by magical means. The magical means I can think of thant Unusual Detects : Easy enough... just buy invisibility vs them. Mind Scan : Not a sense, so invisibility doesnt work. In order to prevent someone using Mind Scan from knowing the "general location and presence" of the target, it is necessary that they fail their ECV attack roll. Fair enough, but how much of a limitation on ECV levels would (DECV only) and (only vs Mind Scan) be? Clairsentience : How would one make it so that the character simply doesnt show up on clairsentience of any sort, real time, retro- or pre-cognition? …

I'm slowly but surely creating a fantasy world of my own. There are elements of medieval Europe, ancient Rome (and Greece), myths and legends, Tolkien, D&D, more books and movies than I can shake a stick at. Some of these references are glaring; others less so. I haven't set out to take any one aspect from any one source--this is an ever-changing project for me because I keep going back and rewriting source material. In any case, I'm going to start posting some of that material in the hopes that outside perspective can aid in narrowing my scope and/or focus, and/or finding flaws or simply contributing ideas. I'll start with a very brief historical overview, …

How would I build a spell that, when cast on a humanmoid foe 9such as an Orc), turns him itno a living bomb? It doesn't have an immediate effect, but if the target is forcefully stuck he explodes, doing as much damage to those around him as if he were made of gunpowder! The orc, of course, would be destoryed by the blast. If they're lucky they might find a few scaps of his clothing.
