I felt like creating a few Hero Characters for my Wheel of Time webpage and thought I would see what some of you thought of them and point out any obvious defincies in the write-ups. I probably will not make up the magic system for Wheel of Time in Hero so I will just whack on a VPP to represent that when I build channelers. Most of these characters should be usable in just about any fantasy world....all be it they are the notable characters and will often be powerful in terms of points spent. I use a little faster speed chart than most Hero Players - mine runs from 3 for soldiers to a max of 6 for Legolas and Xena like characters. It is just my scale so bump d…

I was feeling a little funky this am so I decided to take a stab at writing Boromir up. Re: Ye Ole Wheel of Time MAGIC SYSTEM These are constructs for an AVERAGE Aes Sedai - this allows them to Shield at an Average Level as noted above. Channelers have very little limitations - as a general rule there are no components, incantations, gestures, or concentration - many of the common limiters. One Power: Multipower, 105-point reserve, (105 Active Points); all slots Requires A The One Power Roll (-1/2), (Weaves Only -1/4) REAL POINTS: 60 The One Power: Variable Power Pool (Magic Pool), 105 base + 30 control cost, (157 Active Points); Requires An One Power Roll (-1/2), (Weaves Only -1/4) REAL POINTS: 135 The kicker for my decisi…

Hello! If you're not afraid of detailed writeups, have a browse here: http://www.freewebs.com/d20elements/herosystem.htm at my expanded Armor and Shield writeups. Armor is not changed much, but it was prerequisite to writing up Shields differently. Shields now use Force Walls so that someone can choose to either ignore the shield and cut through it, or try to bypass it (in which case the shield gives you a virtual DCV bonus). Looking for feedback for correctness! I want armor and shields to play as they "should" be (e.g., you can shoot through a shield if you want to and aren't forced to face a DCV bonus on your target). Don't bother tel…

In FH, there is some discussion of having prerequisites for spells. For example, you need to or should know Fire Dart before Explosive Fireball. Maybe you get a cost break on the cost of Explosive Fireball for having the prereq or maybe you get a skill roll penalty for not having it. Has anyone had experience setting up a magic system like that?

... so I have this idea, it involves not having summoners call up animals and monsters (though they could) so much as, say... A killing attack described as a one-horned chocobo-like beastie that runs into the scene and gigs their opponent. Final Fantasy -ish, right? Or is the prefered method to complicate things further by adding one more combatant to an already crowded scene? How do ya'll do it? I thought it might be fun to have summoner powers stem from ancient contracts with powerful beings, call them...oh... The Ilzar Isharri... the Sleeping Gods. These Ilzar, and their chosen, the Ilzaru, can call upon the gods' servants, each one a unique cr…

A hero appeared during the period immediately prior to the Wars of The Constitution. He was ZoDuun, a Rasha of immense size and possessed of skills unheard of. This giant man was often mistaken for a Jhuniz or smaller Gogoza, but no giant was this, he was "all Zo, more man than had ever occupied one body before," as the Dagaa Zobedd remarked. The villains of his tale were the Vug, huge, vile creatures with evil hearts and small minds. They ravaged the towns huddled on the Rumallan side of the Razor Peaks and the ZoKing NoBuuran, warred with them in person. NoBuuran lost his life in single combat with the TrollFather Yaakull Nisha. When ZoDuun heard of his ZoKing's…

I just uploaded an old article, Dungeons of Caleon. http://www.geocities.com/jephkay@sbcglobal.net/dungeons.html It's kinda cool, and has some generic application. Feel free to use what you can of any Caleon material. So long as you praise me unendingly.

If we were to do some Drugs as Powers... Oops... If we were to write up some Drugs as Powers... (That's better). We would need Gradual Effect, Charges, NND... what else? I have no experience at all with Recreational Pharmaceuticals... I've been drunk exactly ... 3 times? Never smoked anything or taken pills. But PCs might encounter folks who have. Never seen the point, really... too messed up as it is. Fantasy Drugs would be even more bizarre than their real world counterparts, and I've great ideas... but where to start? Maybe some Images for Hallucinogenics, Aid for some drugs, side effect Killing Attacks, Drains... Long Term Suppress Effects.…

I'm considering starting a second FH campaign, this one based more closely to a "dnd" feel, but lower level than the one I am currently running. Now, I am considering makeing several sweeping changes, and one of the things I have been toying with is the whole "pay for items" chestnut. Does anyone actually do this? How does it effect the game? Considering I am firmly of the opinion that "points do not equal balance" I don't see how putting items into the game "for free" would be that dangerous (so long as I am controlling what is and isn't going out there, and believe me, it would be firmly controlled). Does anyone actually use that rule, and if so, what effect do…

Hi -- I am working out the details on a campaign setting in FH, but I noticed something interesting when I got around to setting up the default limitations on faith casters: +Requires Skill Roll: -1/2 (Faith -- standard penalty of -1 per 10 active points) + Concentration: -1/4 (1/2 DCV until caster's next phase) + Only when serving the God's Purpose: -1/2 + Variable Limitation pool: ++ Focus: (obvious, accessible, not expendable, unbreakable, restricted Universal Focus -- anyone of same religious faith (after praying with it for a period of time)) -1 ++ Noisy: -1/4 other faith casters can sense the spell being cast and roughly how powerful. …

I have a largish article you might want to read, re-write, mangle, line a bird cage with, what-have-you... http://www.geocities.com/jephkay@sbcglobal.net/Cities.htm It's fun... the math is not so intense... maybe it's useful, maybe you'll be hospitalized from laughing at my presumption... who can say?

Yeah... Having played around with the Random Bestiary, I've discovered it's a great Resource for Star Hero. SOme of the results just don't mix with Fantasy Hero at all. 5: Tundra/Steppe Survival (Tundra/Steppe)+1 7: Carnivore (Sus-1) 12 Herder! (Greg+2) Tracking Tactics+1 4: Warm-blooded 6: Crepuscular 2: Deep Sleeper 4: Family Group 4: Small Body Frame 4: Average Bulk 5: Near Top of Food Chain (Sus)+1 Several Young, Moderate Investment So far, so good... I get to Number of Sexes... I get a hermaphromorphic design... hmm... hardly something Tolkien would have given us. I think the FH version will be toned down a lot. OR...only the Star H…

Okay... how to start this... I have compiled a list of animal attributes, consulted various sage individuals and studied my butt off, lo, these many days... Now I have to bring it all together into a cohesive plan for writing animals. Hopefully, it evolves into a nice HERO "Meta-system" for creating bestiaries. Some of the source material uses random tables to better simulate the evolution of critters. Others, myself included, prefer a top-down approach to animal design. I draw a sketch, look at it, and do a character sheet. How does HERO-dom feel about randomization? I've always thought HERO players were fairly deterministic in outlook. Are tables…
