Utech Posted March 21, 2009 Report Share Posted March 21, 2009 So the Earth's moon was probably formed when a large object -- perhaps half the size of the Earth -- slammed into the still-molten Earth. After the collision, a huge blob of Earth was ejected into space, captured by Earth's gravity, and formed the Moon. The large object that slammed into the Earth may very well be located inside the Moon. Let's say it is. What was it, HERO fans? How could supers end up having to deal with it? I like the deathstar or colony ship ideas. A race with the villians to get the technology. only to find survivors that want to colonize our world. In the core of the moon, is the engine of a prototype spaceship that was made to either travel through time, or between dimensions. During the first test flight, something went wrong, causing the ship to travel to such a point where it crashed into earth at some point during it's history. While most of the ship was destroyed on impact, the engine survived and is currently buried in the moon. Should someone be able to get a hold of it, they could cause technology to jump ahead by years, decades, maybe even centuries. Five billion years ago a Lovcraftian race (or races) created the Solar System with five inhabable planets, Venus and Earth (Earth then was slightly smaller than Venus), Orpheus and Mars (about the same size), and Tiamat, the largest of the inhabitable planets. (Five planets, maybe five different races in a rare cooperation?) By accident or design, the walls between alternate realities were easier to breech on these planets, which is how the Mars of H. G. Welles, the Mars of John Carter, and the Mars of J'onn J'onzz can co-exist. Half a billion years later war errupted, the atmosphere of Venus was poisoned, the atmosphere of Mars blown away, Tiamat destroyed, and the orbit of Orpheus disrupted so that it collided with Earth. Half the mass of Orpheus combined with the mass of proto-earth to form present day Earth, the other half formed the moon. In addition to the moon containing any preserved clues to the Lovecraftian races that created the solar system, it also contains the (damaged, but still functional) Orpheus Gate in the Wall Between the Worlds. (The Tiamat gate is on Ceres, the Mars and Earth gates are still fully functional, the Venus gate will require a lot of infrastructure before anyone can determine if it's still functional or not.) Istvatha V'han and other would-be other-universe conquerors covet the gates as the best beachhead between their home dimensions and our local glactic supergroup. Invasions must be handled with finesse to avoid further damage to the two or three already unstable gates, plus sapient Earthlings or Martians are required to operate all of the gates in the solar system.
