Re: Weird ship names requested.

I've named ships after bumper stickers I've seen such as USMS I Honk for Jesus

Or word plays like USMS Stopn'shop and its auxiliary tenders the Stoppushin', Stopbitin', Stopscratchin', and the Stopkickin'. or the SS If'nyakanriddis and its sister ship SS Yamuchtaoclos.

I'd also recommend the English translations of the Asterix books for other great wordplay. Like the two roman guards in England; "Sender Victorius" and his mate "Appian Glorius"... Brilliant humour in translation.

Baculum (look it up)

Good place-name ships include the usual suspects: French Lick (Indiana), Humptulips (Washington), Dime Box (Texas), ....

I see someone's been reading A Night in the Lonesome October. And The Lonesome October would be a great ship name.

Re: Weird ship names requested.

At this point we're veering rather close to the "Ill Omen" naming theme: all the corsair ships in Terracide are named for bad-luck signs or inauspicious events. A salvage vessel with a similar name might risk being mistaken for a pirate.

Here's a partial list. (For amusement only.)

Ill Omen

Banshee Wail

Barghest Howl

Tower Inverted

Root Canal

Tax Audit

Core Dump

Bad Sign

Market Crash

Bear Market

Meltdown

Train Wreck

White Squall

Scorched Earth

White-out

Heat Stroke

Lock-Jaw

Brain Fever

Typhoon Season

Ground Fault

Newark Layover

Chronic Migraine

Trial Separation

Raving Lunatic

Red Tape

Poison Ivy

True Story

I once had a supers campaign when I was more or less still green as a champs gm, where the heroes were all punk rockers. They even fought an evil country band with the notorious villain El Kabong. Anyways, I thought it would be cute for them to have a re-purposed cruise ship as a base. Two players had a war on the naming. One proper and the other, well, had more flourish and stuck.

The name of the ship : The Saliva Queen.

You can add Stormy Petrel (or Stormcrow) and Black Dog to that list.
