Re: A Thread for Random Musings

So I've been stuck in New Jersey on business all week, suffering with intermittant wireless internet through the hotel, and other than that the trip goes really well. The customer site is happy, I'm getting praise for my handling of the situation, and I'm very ahead of schedule. I'll finish up by end of next week, when it was predicted to be a 3 week or longer project.

Of course I should have known it couldn't stay this good. I'm sitting in Newark Airport, 2 hours after my flight should have taken off and am just now finding out my airplane is leaving.... Milwaukee. Meaning it's another 2 hours before it gets here, and then a 2 hour flight back to Milwaukee.

The best part is, they don't announce that the flight is delayed or anything till just 5 minutes ago. They didn't even have anyone manning the gate. Most of us were beginning to get worried the flight was cancelled, except it was showing up on the boards still.

Ah, the 'wonderful' feeling of travelling. God I can't wait to get home.... though I have I fly back out on Monday morning.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

A couple of the porn references in some of the other threads and a thread about porn titles, started by your's truly, has got me thinking.

Why is it that in porn movies the women are (for the most part) young, hot, extremely well stacked (either naturally or surgically). Meanwhile, the guys in (straight) porn are old, skinny or fat, fairly poor-looking guys, that (of course) are well endowed?

Transexuals ought not to be judged, except by the quality of their wigs.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

I went and saw Shrek 2 last night. While not as good as the first but that was a given. The first was unconventional and off-the-wall and the second had to follow the template of the first. If the first was a "10" the second was a "9". still highly enjoyable.

But on the drive home I couldn't shake the notion how easy it would be to convert to HERO. But Shrek is only one mixing (Shrek 2 is a remix) o the elements of fairy tales. A HERO genre book would allow the GM to mix their own fairy tale rpg.

My apologies to Solomon, but I -- and every single Swedish soccer fan -- am still reliving Zlatan Ibrahimovich's perfect goal last friday . . .

Italy was the given winner -- for about sixty minutes. As it is, I think that 1-1 is a fair result.

Zlatan is some kind of wonderful . . .

Pure, unadulterated, pointless idle curiosity

How long will Ben's sticky about board rep remain on top of the boards? My bet is it will stay there until nobody whines to Ben about rep for, like, say, three weeks. Every time someone whines, the counter resets and we have another three weeks to go.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

I had almost forgotten that finishing up a story could feel so satisfying.

On the gaming side of things... I'm glad to have a gaming group that are also my friends. However, it does make it vulnerable to disruptions. Two phone calls (Long ones), one falling asleep (exhausted from weekend... I HOPE... it sure makes a GM doubt himself).. .etc.

I was all set to hate Le Femme Musketeer. It's really not the waste of space I was worried it would be.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

Had fondu for the first time ever this past weekend.

The girlfriend and I headed over to a place called "The Melting Pot". A friend of ours is a waiter there and we finagled a reservation on relatively short notice. My g/f brought a bottle of wine, too, which I don't drink, but that's neither here nor there.

We laughed with the waiter about how we knew nothing about anything related to fondu except that usually cheese was involved, and we let him take over.

First course involved small chunks of bread, apple cubes, and bite-sized veggies dipped in a spinach-garlic-swiss cheese combo (the g/f added artichoke, which I don't like). Absolutely grubbin'. You forget that it's just an appetizer and not a main course.

Salad came next. Salad is salad. Movin' on.

Main course. The tray of meats we chose included lobster, salmon, beef (two cuts--center rib-eye, I think, and something else), pork, chicken, and mushrooms (portobello, I think...I don't eat 'em).

Into the fondu pot went some cooking wine, a variety of herbs and spices, some mushrooms (shittake, maybe?), and it just rocked. Oh, and they provided something like ten different dipping sauces, ranging from a garlic-herb thing like pesto to teriyaki to something that made the horseradish seem awfully tame.

We dumped a variety of veggies in and let 'em cook a bit (spuds, broccoli, squash--blech), then got to eatin'. Absolutely wonderful.

Desert. A chocolate-Baileys Irish Cream mix, into which we dipped bananas, apples, strawberries, pineapple (not as good), a brownie-like cake, angelfood cake (I think it was), and...um...something else. Cheesecake, maybe. All good. Sheer heaven.

Total cost including beer for me (our waiter friend didn't charge us a cork fee for the wine), was $98 and change. I tipped $25, and we left him the remaining wine for later.

Probably one of the best dinners out I've ever had. Not something we'll do often, but I'll definitely be back.

I never knew fondu was such a cuisine.

Just thought I'd share.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings

My guitar obsession continues.

I sold four of em, and bought one really nice one. Now I have room for more!

Last week I sold another one, and with just a small portion of that bought another that I can fix up and hopefully sell. But here's the real excting (for me) part. With the rest, I bought a beautiful guitar body so that I can begin making my own guitar. It will be an original Scary Drifter - I plan on putting a silhouette of a logo-style Drifter on it - small, though, so as to not upset the gorgeous wood grain.

This weekend there's a guitar convention near Philly, and I'm gonna go look at pickups, pots, swiches, all the little components I'll need to make this a reality.

I'm psyched.

I watched Galipoli today. It made me mildly depreseed and introspective. Sad, really. Oh, well. Time to watch some gratuitous glamourized hollywood sex and violence to purge myself of the sobering notion that war and violence suck like megamaid.
