Howdy all, I'm planning to run a sci-fi campaign based loosely on the plot for the upcoming xbox game, Advent Rising. Advent Rising is a sweeping sci-fi epic about humanity's role in the larger universe and such. For my campaign, the character starts off as just a normal dude in present-day Vancouver. Half the first session is going to be spent with him interacting with his family/friends, just to establish the major relationships in his life, at the time. Then, out of the blue, he's struck by an incredibly bright star/meteor/something that falls from the sky. He blacks out and has a dream of a ringed world, a jungle temple and the faces of stran…

In another forum someone mentioned what game they would want to “re-boot†and re-imagine much in the same way they have re-imagined Battlestar Galactica. Someone mentioned that they would like to re-do Star Wars and make the Jedi more like Kirosouwa (sp?) samurai. So, my question is, if you had the opportunity to “re-do†Star Wars what would you do with the Jedi and the Force?

Moonquakes 1 2
by Guest lucky- 33 replies

This question has its origins in this thread. I'm indebted to austenandrews and others for making some great suggestions and giving me several ideas. Hypothetical 1: A section of the moon's center measuring ~ 800 cubic km suddenly vanishes. The disappearance does not cause any excess energy to radiate into the moon's crust. Hypothetical 2: The size and mass of the object is probably too small to have any significant impact on the moon's orbit. Now, since the center of the moon has suddenly disappeared, the likelihood of moonquakes is quite high. Aside from the possibility of large chunks of the moon raining down on earth, would these quakes throw off …

I stole this from the other thread. Does anyone else think this rule is not great? I use the optional rule for this situation from Ultimate Vehicles. In my game you get +1 DCV for every point you make the combat pilot roll. In other words, simply making the roll does not eliminate the DCV penalty entirely. It just didn't make sense to me...anyway...thoughts?

Didn't I see somewhere on the net a conversion of GURPS Aliens to HERO? I can't be imagining this, can I?

And I need to know if the package deals in Alien Wars are worth the price of the book. I'm not using the background, just the PDs... opinions?

Tunguska Try-Outs?
by Guest lucky- 5 replies

No, two threads aren't enough. Actually, this isn't really related directly to my other questions (okay, maybe tangenitally): has anyone ever done anything with the Tunguska blast? It pretty much demands to be included in most Champions or Sci-Fi games. I'm just curious if any GMs here have used it in their campaigns and if so, how. Personally, I like to draw as much inspiration as I can from the "real" world, so things like Tunguska, the Bermuda Triangle, the Sirius mysteries (etcetera etcetera ad infinitum) often play roles in my games. You?

I am going to be running a space opera adventure and part of it is going to have the player's ship fly through a dangerous asteroid belt. I am wanting something very dramatic were all the players on the ship get into the action, not just the pilot. If you were going to do this how would you do it?

Herolover's asteroid belt thread made me realize that I should ask you guys for some input. Currently I'm putting together a Star Wars game. We all know that science has very low priority in Star Wars films, and for me that's a great part of its charm. Here are some examples of the patent goofiness that makes the GFFA such a fun place: - spaceships that scream in a vacuum and bank while turning - lasers bolts that travel slower than bullets - an asteroid field in which giant rocks fling around at high speeds and yet never stray from a defined border - an ocean as deep as the planet's core - a city that covers an entire planet - a control panel with a b…

The talent Hot Shot Pilot (Star HERO) has an Active Point Total of 72. Does the overall effectiveness of this Talent warrant the 24 CP Cost? The PC in our group feels like he was overcharged for it.

Astronomy/Physics question 1 2

Okay, so what would happen to the moon if a chunk of its center suddenly vanished? Say 800 cubic km of matter disappeared from its core--would that throw off its orbit or anything?

One to the things I really liked about Monsters, Minions, And Marauders is the Appendix. The Appendix, if you don’t know, contains templates and pre-made NPC’s for such things as Knights, City Guards, Thieves, Mages, Priest, etc. They are very generic, just enough to give you an idea. I am wondering if we Star Hero fans could do something along the same lines for our genre. Just the kind of general NPC’s that all GM’s could pull from and modify for their own campaigns. Some examples would be: Doctor Policeman Soldier Thief Technician Starship Engineer Government Bureacrat I can't think of any more, but this gives you an idea

I've got a starbase adventure coming up in my Champions game soon, and wondered if anyone has links to an online starbase map or two? I struck out with Google. Ideally I need a starbase roughly the size of DS9.

heres a rough system I worked up, and may very will have posted here in the distant past someplace, but my ADHD addled brain has lost track if I did Character Conversions: Traveller to Star Hero 2 this system is intended for most versions of traveller except Traveller the New Era and GURPS Traveller Primary Stats convert as Traveller Stat +5 Figured Stats are calculated normally Except for Body which is figured as follows Traveller Str+Dex+End then use the following Table Total: 18:10 21:11 24:12 27:13 30:14 33:15 36:16 39:17 42:18 45:19 Ego is players choice Social Standing is a perk for 10+ otherwise ignored. and …

Below is a chart of what should be the optimal travel times for ships. This uses the old Traveller basis of accelerating 1/2 the distance and the decelerating the other half. This is 'straight line' physics and does not take into account having to angle for a moving planet. The formula used is SQRT( 4d/a ). I believe it is based on d = (1/2) * at^22d/a=t^2SQRT(2d/a)=tWhy then SQRT(4d/a)? There was a reason, but I cannot remember why :PI am guessing something to to with halving the '1/2' (which then becomes 4 after switching its side) but not sure. The above formula jives with a table from GURPS space though so I am happy. The initial time is in minutes, then once that…

Looking for FEEDBACK on campaign idea
by Guest lucky- 7 replies
Hello all, I have a vague idea for a campaign that I'd like to run for my friends and I wanted to get some feedback from y'all. I only have a few of the larger premises and themes worked out and I need some input--basically, I'd like to throw my ideas against this board and see what sticks. The major themes I'd like to explore in this game are adaptability, identity and alienation. Specifically, I'd like to examine the ways in which the process of identity-creation is fluid, dynamic and continuous: to paraphrase Descartes, we change therefore we are. Additionally, I'm interested in looking at cybernetic relationships (writ large). I want to explore inter…

A while back, I tried running a Sci-Fi campaign with a homebrew system... Now I'm looking at maybe using Hero System instead...But, to get some idea of point levels, I recreated an Engineer NPC as much as possible... But, to do it, he wound up at 300 points...So I need to either shave 50 points from him, or ignore the point guidelines and have all the players make 300 point characters...Or maybe just use the Standard Superhero point levels, but have Heroic Characters... Oh, and I'm using a Max for Speed of 6 instead of 4...What do y'all think...?Xavier LargayPlayer: NPC Val** Char*** Cost 10** STR 0 15/23** DEX 15 10/20** CON 0 13** BODY 6 18** INT 8 15** EGO 10 10** …

Wanted to figure out all the Science Fiction elements I can lift from the old Grimjack comics... ... and I remembered that there was an issue regarding tech levels. Are there any mechanics that folks use to measure the tech level of an item and how it's affected by lowered tech levels? "Science works here, Magic works there... Swords work everywhere."

Hello all. In a months time I am going to be GM'ing a Terran Empire adventure at the local Convention. I am wondering if anyone has any examples of good Terran Empire character sheets. I am looking for something with nice graphics, logos, Star Hero logos etc. Something to spruce up the character sheet so it looks nice. Anyone know of anything? Have any examples?
