Note that this uses a multiplier I came up with for the Autofire Advantage... Defining Margin of Success as the difference between your roll and your target, for a successfull roll, then Autofire requires a Margin of Success of 2 full points for each extra shot that hits, up to the number of shots in the Autofire burst... The multiplier's name is "Low Recoil", and changes this to a Margin of Success of 1 point for each extra shot that hits, and doubles the value of the Autofire Advantage... ***THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL PART OF THE HERO SYSTEM*** That said, here's what I did with it... CALDERA Pistol: 1d6+1 RKA vs ED (3 Shot Autofire, Low Recoil; +1/2) (…

So, recently, I saw a reference to Larry Niven in the Sex and the Single Superman thread. Then, I saw Cyber HERO related thread. And it hit me! Dream Park HERO! How much fun would it be to roleplay world champions in Dream Park? Or Dream Park staff? Investigating mysteries, rushing to make adventures work, and occasionally just settling in to your roles and playing! Granted, roleplaying about roleplaying might get a little deep, or a little silly, but I remember reading those books and really getting carried away. Who's with me? Any ideas?

I finally got around to getting the Firefly DVD last Wed. And I have watched the first 2 of the 4 DVDs. The one thing about the universe I keep going back to in my mind are the Reavers. Due to the fact, there is so little info in the series about them (practically all heresay). So I was wondering if anyone has specualated on their "culture". For example: I myself wonder, are they really insane, or are they just uber-sadistic pirates. I do have to admit they could fit into many starfaring universes. So thoughts?

Guys~ Okay, first post on any HERO forum, so bear with me For starters, I'll let you know my background with HERO. I've owned it for three days. A very big wow to Steve Long and the rest of the crew for everything they've done- I've been reading and can see its potential. This is where my questions come in... I also purchased Star HERO with the original book because my gaming group has always been interested in playing in the StarCraft universe (FYI- Starcraft is a PC game produced by Blizzard and is still pretty fun; based in space with 3 major races[human, an insect-like race, and an advanced alien race]). Has anyone attempted to put StarC…

I am confused by the hyperdrive write up in TE. It takes extra time but the implication is that the extra time is a maximum time for the ship to stay in hyperspace. There are also stats in the description of x light years per hour etc. But the actually speed seems to be linked to the duration you can be in hyperspace and the velocity you can go there, which is determined by the normal space engines. The text also implies it takes some amount of preparation to make the jump to hyperspace... but the duration or nature of the preparation is not discussed. Can anyone explain this? I'm probably missing something obvious. Thanks.

I am working up a near-future (2030s) campaign concept that will be part "real world", but with the main action taking place in a total immersion worldwide cyberspace game. In the real world, the characters will be 25+25 or maybe 50+50 normals, but the game world will involve 250+ point characters, with abilities that will mix sources such as The Matrix and the anime .hack//SIGN with video games and other fantasy and sci-fi films, with a touch of regular cyberpunk. The feel I am going for is that the characters have on online persona that can be pretty much anything they want, allowing for a mix of genres in the characters. This is a write-up of the power setup I wil…

The Nautilus is the first FTL craft created by the humanity and the first to survive an attempt to leave the Solar System. After the initial problems at its launch the ship and its crew has accomplished more than was ever hoped for Then, hard cold reality struck and several players had to drop or vanished. This is where I hope you will come in. I have openings for several replacement crew members. Officers and assistants to replace the lost PCs. You'll be in the slightly unsusual position of "having always been" there. In other words, your PC will have technically been part of the crew from beginning. If becoming an explorer in the new frontier interests you, p…

Seems to me that the basic idea behind the Technocracy could make for a decent sci-fi campaign, particularly if you cleaned the TU up some so its more squickier elements. Any thoughts??

Did anyone ever do 5e writeups for the cast and mecha of Gundam Wing? I don't even know if this series, which turned out to be ground-breaking when it was aired on Cartoon Network five years ago, could be shown even on cable now. It would be too controversial. Are the Gundam pilots heroic rebels or murderous terrorists -- or both? Ir Relena Darlian/Peacecraft idealistic, incredibly naive, a romantic, a masochist, or all of the above? Is Une a patriot or a monster? Is the Romefeller Foundation a dangerous conspiracy, or a genuine force for peace? Very few series deal this intensely in shades-of-grey morality.

Hello everyone, I was hoping you could help out the new guy. MY friends and I are trying to set up a Science Fiction game that draws pretty heavily from the TV show Andromeda. I was hoping a few of the hero gurus around here could help me construct a ship similar to the andromeda ascendant using the hero rules. (I am not overly concerned with point values yet, I am more interested in just how to do it) another thing, one of my players is interested in potentially making the AI of the ship his character and this is what drew us to hero in the first place as it seemed to be the only sysytem really capable of this. Can anyone provide an example of how this might be…

Okay, I admit it...this isn't gaming related, but since you like the idea of space travel or you wouldn't be reading this forum, I thought I'd take a chance on incurring your wrath and post this here anyway. I just saw a TV ad from Volvo and Virgin Galactic...you can enter to win a trip into outer space. Really. http://www.boldlygo.com/ In the terms & conditions they do say that if you're selected, they'll call you and ask you some health questions (and questions about felony convictions) and that if you don't qualify, they'll chose another winner. Given that I'm diabetic and seriously overweight, I figure that even if selected I don't have a snowball'…

has anybody come up with a design for the Drop capsules/pods as talked about in Starship Troopers and Warhammer 40K and various versions of traveller? I was figuring on a 1 hex single use vehicle, ablative armor, no maneuvering thrusters on the basic capsule, unarmed, one person capacity with gear, probably STR:25 to be safe how would you buy the flight for a dropped vehicle?

After a long break from the Hero System, I picked up the black monolith which is the Revised 5th Edition. I anticipate running a science-fiction campaign in the coming months and I have almost settled on Hero for the system, as opposed to picking up Traveller d20, or writing my own game. Now, I am deciding whether to pick up Star Hero and I have a few questions for those with more knowledge and experience: 1. I own tons of gaming material, including most every Traveller book in existance. I have gamed for years. I don't need gobs of general "these are all of the genres in science fiction" advice, nor do I need an overview of potential jump technologies, or another st…

Aside from setting limits on cash / resource points is there any reason that a personal forcefield would not work when worn with body armor? Wouldn't they just add their defenses together?

Has anyone done a campaign based on the British sci-fi classic Blake's 7? The Earth Federation is a ruthless dictatorship. It is opposed by Raj Blake and his band of rebels (mostly a band of escaped felons). This would be a very grim setting with the PCs constantly being outnumbered and outgunned. The PCs can also grab the spotlight since the heroes are all killed in a firefight in the last episode (I didn't need to post a spoiler warning for a TV series that's 30 years old, right?).
