I would like to get just a little bit huffy with you at the idea that this is insulting and has no grounding in reality.... 

 

Then I realize I work with eight different kids named (phonetically) "Markweess." 

 

One of them even drives a Mercury "Markweess."   though his brother drives a Fleetwood "Bro-Ham." 

 

So yeah. 

 

This might not spread a long way through the English-speaking public.

If you said "see and understand" I would agree with you.  I teach too many undergraduate physics labs to assume that by default.

 

The legendary "Zero Point Energy" found in science fiction is the mysterious energy field that students unknowingly tap into that causes them to get zero points on lab work.  Unlimited in power, it is very difficult to apply....
