My long-running PBeM game is looking for a few good PCs. It’s set near a fairly large city in the middle of tropical plains. The campaign area also includes desert, mountains, jungle and coastal areas. I have a bare-bones website that explains a bit about the game world, PC requirements, house rules, and etc. Check it out here: http://pbem.nexusseven.com If you are interested or have any other questions, email me at:barry@nexusseven.com Barry posted here and at player finder

I've reformatted Mark Doherty's Ultimate Grimoire specifically for on-screen use (for use on laptops and such) and, with his permission, put the PDF up on my site at http://mojobob.com/roleplay/hero/fantasy/magic/spellfinder.html The file size is about 1.8MB. Also there is a handy little utility written for me by another friend, Steve Rennell, which makes it much, much easier to find specific spell types in the huge yawning abyss that is the Ultimate Grimoire -- the zip file weighs in at about 340KB. NOTE: This is a fan-created resource collated over the years since Ye Olden Days, and should not be confused with the Fantasy Hero Grimoire or Grimoire II

This is just going to be (to begin with) a simple macro-free excel spreadsheet to convert currencies for different systems. Including coinage. The only tricky bit is the "dollar worth" (I don't know the actual word - I never did economics). But in general I've tried to keep the most common wage relative in the most common coinage. So it's simply a matter of comparison before breaking it down into different coins. ie one Australian dollar = 0.59 Euros or 0.76 US dollars (or 0.0125 medieval pennies)

During our last gaming session, I used an encounter, which my girlfriend thought up (the basics and background anyway), to great effect against my players. It was in the sewers beneath a middle-eastern style city, and I asked my girlfriend for idea of interesting things to throw in there. She said, "Why not a demented magic carpet that got thrown down there?" So I left it lurking in the muck, next to a body the characters had to investigate. Needless to say, it surprised the hell out of the prissy female martial artist, who had poked it with her staff, as it flung itself towards her, spraying everyone with offal. Even though the battle was over in a few short phases we we…

In case this helps, here's a webpage about the British Peerage, which you can incorporate into your FH campaign. http://laura.chinet.com/html/titles01.html

Here's another one. One of my players that plays Supers alot using HERO thinks Fantasy HERO combat is a lot slower because you don't get as many actions. I, on the other hand, as GM don't think it is any slower, just that turns go by faster. Is Fantasy combat slower than Supers combat? If he is right is there anything I can do to speed things up?

Hi! As I am reading the Gortek & Felix novels in these days, I asked myself if anyone has ever made a writeup for this trollslayer. I think he should have a lot of STR, toughness also, a high speed, defense maneuver, a dwarfen war art with axes, a lot of skill levels....and of course nasty disadvantages greets from berlin swobeas PS: I have already tried the search function....

I'm intriqued by your speed chart house rules mentioned here: http://mojobob.com/roleplay/hero/fantasy/house_phases.html ...but I am a little confused about the "Calling Forward An Action" part. Ok.. so it's segment 11, and a speed 3 character (Bob) has drawn 2, 3, and 8 for his cards, but he wants to dodge right now. As I read it, that means Bob has to turn in his 8 and his 3 in order to dodge, correct? Because 8 + 3 = 11 which satisfies the "equal or better" rule.. If Bob had been unlucky enough to draw 2, 3, and 7, he would have to turn in all three cards in order to dodge in 11. (2+3+7=12, which satisfies the "equal or better" rule) If Bob had been…

Has anyone heard of, or seen fantasy or medieval documents concerning the hiring of mercenaries? I'd like to actually have a written contract as a prop in a game.

Well here is the question. What exactly is the fringe benefit of being a High Priest of an Orc cult. (long story basically a Hero conversion of NPC character me and my friend created for another system ). My friend and I have been discussing this one. I am thinking it is equivalent to higher nobility, he thinks lower nobility. Heck, it may even be worth Head of State for all I know. Essentially, possibly most influential person in a several thousand strong band of orcs. Well, at least 2nd most powerful, the warchief may have been stronger chain of command wise.

Hello. Okay here is another question. When should creatures use larger than normal weapons? For example in my campaign players can play several races that have the "Large" limitation and the appropriate stats. If one wants to wield a Great sword should I let them wield a Great Sword or should they wield a Larger than normal great sword? In fact, my question alsw deals with the hands required. A Great sword is a 2-handed weapon. At one point in size should you be able to use it one handed? Should a large creature be able to use a 2-handed Great sword with one hand?

Here's an interesting post-apoc setting that could easily be used for a no-magic/low-magic fantasy world. http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/medvam/ Unfortunately, it's not finished, and it looks like it hasn't been updated in about two years. But what's there is pretty cool.

Hi I've been attracted to Hero System for some time because its flexibility suits my imagination more than my current RPG of choice - d20. My problem is that I need weening off class levels and challenge ratings. For a standard hero game of three PCs of 100 + 50 points, what sort out points level might represent a very challenging NPC, a moderately challenging NPC etc? How many average point stooges make a good challenge? I appreciate that there is some variability depending on the exact characteristics of the NPC - magic / combat prowess etc and circumstances that makes it more of an art rather than science. I've looked in both the core rules and th…

I'm gearing up a Turakian Age campaign that will kick off with some pretty foul dealings of Taal Salira (FH p393) and I've been kind of winging some background info that I put to the board for refinement and commentary. I figure that a power-hungry up-and-coming priestess of the vague 'God of Curses' might be an excellent foil for a new group of heroes. This should be fun. Of course there will ultimately be a link to Kal-Turak in all this, but I don't want to tip anything off in that direction here. Well you can't really start using Taal Salira without some in-depth knowledge about Tharex, God of Curses. There's very little reference material that Steve has pro…

Hey all. Got another question. In my last combat I had some quick agile thieves with short swords and shields (STR 10, CV 8) fight my PCs. I discovered that the thieves couldn't even hurt one guy because he was wearing chain (DEF 6). This meant that no matter wear my thief hit him no BODY would be done. (They did do a lot of STUN however.) My question is... 1) do you see this as okay? No problem, it just means that the PC will be knocked out first or should the bad guys find a way to do BODY? 2) Getting more STR is not an option as is getting another weapon. That said is there a way for STR 10 Short Sword (1d6k) man to do BODY to Chain mail man?

I've been toying with Deadly Blow. I like the concept, especially the limited versions of it, but don't like it as presented in the rules. So, I came up with this build using Succor rather than Aid: Deadly Blow: Succor 5d6 to HKA, 25 AP, Standard Effect (15) +0, Trigger +1/4 (attacking target, resets with half phase action). Total AP: 31 OIF: -1/2 Self Only: -1/2 Points Fade Immediately After attack: -1/2 RC: 12/10/7 END Cost: 3 It would boil down to costing 3 END a phase you wanted to use it, on top of the cost to swing your weapon, representing the mighty effort it took to swing the weapon for extra damage. Also, to keep it going, you would have…
