General Roleplaying

  1. Started by Gauntlet,

Not sure if a conversation like this has been done before but I thought it would be a good idea to have a discussion as to what are the best ways to start a new campaign. It of course does not matter what type of campaign, Superheroes, Fantasy, Horror, Spy, Space, whatever, but what should the creator of the campaign look into so that his game has a good start. My first thought is that the GM should make sure that the players he has available are interested in the type of game he is looking to start. And if not, could it still go on with some minor changes or is he/she completely off the mark.

  2. Started by Doc Democracy,

This is the RPG sprung from the Sentinels of the Multiverse boardgame. There are a few mechanics that seem interesting and am thinking of playing it. Anyone had any experience with it?

Just taking a survey of the field, so to speak. What does the current landscape of Supers RPGs look like? What's out there (besides Hero) that you all like?

  5. How can I create a dc heroes hack of any comic book series featuring the golden age public domain super heroes?

How can i create a golden age supers campaign?

  7. Started by Ninja-Bear,

Odd question I know but does anyone happen to have a character sheet for the WotC d20 game? Preferably the original one that uses the 3.0 D&D rules? I cannot seem to find an official one on the web. TIA!

  8. Started by Gauntlet,

Not sure how many of you have had to ask this question, but what do you think would be a good way to get your significant other (of any type, married or not) to accept that you are a gamer. So, how have the rest of you dealt with something like this (assuming they are not a gamer as well of course, but then again perhaps they like different games and not the type you prefer). And this is just a general discussion, as I am completely without any relationship, none of it will affect me personally.

Since marvel comics now publishes it's own role-playing game,i hope dc comics does it's own role-playing game very soon!

  11. In 2020 we kicked off a series focused on martial arts and how to incorporate them into Metahumans Rising. Now we want to revisit that series. Help us pick the next round of styles we cover in this poll:https://forms.gle/iaHWnLwY4segBorf7

Just curious if anyone else here is using Talespire as a VTT? Just curious. It's a rule agnostic 3D VTT that I have been loving since 2020. I can't remember if I have already posted this question here. If I Have I will understand if the Mod delete this.

  17. Definitely Not A Role-Playing Game

  18. The Article At 13th Dimension Saw this on Facebook and thought I'd pass it along. Champions does get a mention here, albeit not a particularly favorable one. But there are some seriously old-school games noted here.

  19. The School Buzz Saw this on Facebook and thought I'd pass this along. After all the grief we RPGers went through in the Eighties, it's always good to see stuff like this.

I dont usually so PDF reading, sure; I am glad I have them, and in cases like T5, where I haven't been able to find affordable paper copies. It isnt even an aesthetics thing (though it kind of is that as well). The fact is that, even though it is part of my job and hanging out here, stafing at a screen is actively unpleasant for me. It isnt too far removed from staring into a 15 watt light bulb for hours on end. Unpleasant. I am not going to type out all my thoughts on T5- so far I have more than I ever want to type (which is saying something, I think), and I am exactly 54 pages into this 656 pqge book. I did want to take a moment to share my …

  21. I have a player in my Hero 6E campaign who has changed the character already once in the game prior to starting. We have played six sessions, which is maybe 1/4 or 1/5 of the way through the campaign. The player now wants to play a digressively different character, because he said it would be more fun. Would any of you allow this? As a GM, I am highly frustrated at this attitude period I believe it is showing a great disrespect for the effort that I’ve made to not only create this game, but I actually work with the players to create a backstory which will fit into the game and allow me to write their stories into the campaign material.…

  22. I wonder if I fired the proverbial "golden BB" (shooters of LBX-10s in Battletech will understand the term) at a longtime friendship. The shorter version: there's someone I've known since second or third grade. Recently I invited him to join our D&D group. The short version: it did not go well. The longer version (and apologies in advance, there's a good bit to the story): I invited this friend of mine to join our bi-weekly D&D group. Let's call him "new guy" or NG for short. NG's other gaming group had started puttering out by that point. Also, I knew that NG had some real-life issues that were hitting him kinda hard. I thought that enjoying some…

  23. What rule books have special rules in the social section that require players to think more than simply chat and throw dice? I think most rule books only distinguish between types of social skills, such as persuasion, charm, intimidation, and deception, but there are also rules that have good design, such as the Intimacies rule in Exalted 3e Too many rule books focus on improving the combat system, and many times I feel the need for detailed social rules to obtain advice and assistance.

  24. Started by Duke Bushido,

Nope; this is not apropos of anything; it has nothing to do with anything we arw currently discussing (as far as I know: I tend to avoid the political thread and the news thread as if they contained a horribly mixture of syphilis and leprosy, so feel free to do le check me) I have heard so many opinions on exploding dice over the years-- even before Savage Worlds. I cant remember which ones, but it is little more than a board or smdice game mechanic applied to RPGs- well, at least one as part of the core rules; others as house rules. I have even played Exploding Dice in DnD- had a DM that, if you rolled a damage die at max, then you rolled it again and added…
