Just wondering if anyone has heard of Legend Keeper, a new personal wiki-style world-building tool for Game Masters that's in beta right now and being developed by a guy named Braeden. I just read on his patreon page that he quit his full time job to continue development of the tool. I'm very excited about it and considering supporting the project. I'm pretty sure it's not system-specific in anyway (though a lot of the promotional material seems geared towards fantasy settings) so it would be of interest to the HERO community.

[This thread is a continuation of another.] --- The rules of this thread are simple -> You first choose a topic typical of tabletop gaming such as "Dragon", "Battle at Sea", "Paladin's Mount", or "Unorthodox Treasure". I prefer topics centered around the fantasy genre, but I am not opposed to those associated with science-fiction, superheroes or even the "mundane" world of action/adventure films. Then, you describe what each topic would look like if tailored for a low level, a mid level, and a high level adventure; you can be as serious/funny/brief/elaborate as you wish. Feel free to be abstract...so long as you are at least s…

I've been dragging through old notebooks (the paper kind, with a metal coil on one side and these weird graphite scrawlings all over them) to complete something I promised myself I would do as I had time (almost done, Chris! ) I stumbled across something a few minutes ago--- How many of you other old men remember way, way back when-- about the late 70s or so, when if you needed a module on the cheap or between getting one from the brand-name guys, you pulled it out of a magazine? No modules that month? Well there's that rack of Judge's Guild stuff way in the back of the store..... Dude, Judge's Guild was _awesome_ way back when, especially…

Ascendant is a new superhero RPG being Kickstarted by Autarch. I don't know about the mechanics since at first glance it appears to be a percentile system with very large numbers, both of which are turn-offs for me. But the art is fantastic and I've been impressed with ACKS, so there's that. Anyway nobody seems to be discussing it and I thought that the superhero fans here might find it interesting. There is a free preview if you are interested in the rules: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/autarch/ascendant/posts/2773764 From the preview, it uses a logarithmic point-buy method that I have long felt would be a improvement if it were adopted by Hero. That i…

I am in a debate with a friend. I like playing games like Star Wars, Star Trek, and other franchised universes. I like playing and running those universes because they are pre-built and recognizable, but I also like to play around and twist stories to my own liking. I see no problem, but my friend has the feeling that changing too much and it will no longer be that universe. To some degree, I think he is right, but to what degree? How much can you change Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, or whatever before it stops being what it and becomes it is. I personally think that is a personal opinion and in roleplaying games it should come down to group consensus regardless of …

I love D6 games in general going back to the WEG SW game. Has anyone played the 2 games I mentioned in the title? What was your experience like with them? Would you recommend them?

I was introduced to Heroes way back in 3rd edition when a friend of mine was running a Heroic level campaign based on Star Wars. Since then I fell in love with the system. Then in 2004, I found myself playing a little MMO called City of Heroes. Since that time, I wanted to set up a campaign based on CoH using Heroes. But I never found the right group who was willing to play in this type of setting. Now, the group that I’m in are willing to try (currently playing Starfinders with a bit of Scion thrown in) playing this system. (One player already made his character) So I’m excited to see how my two great Super Hero loves is going to work

Saw this posted on Facebook and thought I'd pass it along--it would be really nifty if there could be something like this for Champions.

So it has been a week since all the rumors and tweets started about FFG laying off (not only their video game line which was confirmed) but also all (or a large amount) of their staff in their RPG wing. A few (now) ex-employees confirmed that their had been cuts to the RPG but no one (that I could find searching) said how many or what it meant for their games going forward. Does anyone on here know more about what might be happening with them? I played a Star Wars campaign a few years back and actually grew to quite like the system and their books. Very nice quality and kind of surprising/sad that a company that big/popular with such a major IP ca…

Yes the post is taken from our social medial, but we wanted to spread the word on our free Christmas Adventure. We’re closing out the year with a final one page adventure. Well, not so much one page adventure as a short adventure. What started out as a simple short evolved into a full rescue scenario. Before we get to the adventure, a bit of background. Metahumans Rising has a full setting developed for it. Unfortunately, a lot of the content moved to stretch goals help keep our Kickstarter goals manageable. Now, don’t think that just because we missed those screen shots the original setting for Metahumans Rising is lost forever. As we develop new content, ex…

I’d poster elsewhere on the site about playing Elder Scrolls Online but I didn’t care for it. Downloaded Neverwinter and a couple hours in I’m really enjoying myself. Does anyone else here play? Any advice for a newbie?

Let's face it, we've all had experiences as players and GMs that have left us shocked, horrified, angry, and/or confused... maybe all those things at once. I know that over the couple of decades of gaming I've done I have certain memories that still make me twitch when they come to mind. I propose that this thread be used to share some of those memories so that we can get them off our chest and strategize with one another about dealing with these problems in case some else is experiencing them or something similar. This thread may also be used by people currently experiencing difficult challenges from players or GMs to seek out advice on how to deal with the…

I am a brand new GM and still trying to learn the book to a point and my first game is supposed to be in a week. I have barely had a chance to build my campaign and am not even really sure what I need to have for it. Having some single session prefabs would really help me out as 1 it would tell me the kind of prep I need to do for my own campaign 2 offer me something to run until I finish my campaign and 3 give me some side missions for when the players are not yet ready to advance the story. If anyone can point me to a resource I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Hey all! Just wanted to let Herodom Assembled that I'm doing a new Kickstarter! It starts October 29th, and here's the basic pitch: Explorers Of The Fantastic is a setting book for the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition, describing an alternate "atomic horror" Cold War of the 1950s and 1960s, where the third bomb the Allies dropped on Japan awoke giant monsters across the world. The Explorers are an organization of "action scientists" wearing matching color-coded jumpsuits and using astonishing technology to capture, contain or kill the kaiju before the Communists can get their hands on them. The amazing advances in science we've made from studying the creatures…

I joined this group and have gotten some absolutely incredible maps including animated maps for people that play on screen tables. This is just one was one that I am going to use and fairly time/genre generic but there are hundreds of all types. The Reddit group is r/battlemaps/ I am not in any way associated with the Patreon or even know who they are. I just grabbed one of the maps I downloaded and liked to show an example. Enjoy!

Consent in Gaming by Sean K. Reynolds and Shanna Germaine https://www.montecookgames.com/consent-in-gaming/ Tackle Mature Content with Confidence! From fending off an attack by bloodthirsty pirates to delving into dank caverns, roleplaying games allow you to explore and experience things you probably don’t want to face in real life—or to approach topics from the perspective of characters who may be very different than your actual self. This shared experience is intended to be fun for all involved, but RPGs can put characters in life-or-death crises, intense emotional situations, or traumatic environments. Whether it’s body horror in a s…

I have been out of TTRPG's since around 1998 except for a single Call of Cthulhu campaign I ran for a few roommates that had never played an RPG before in 2001 or so. And I can happily say I am so glad I came back to one of my old stand by's since there was a lot of haze from the explosion of systems and books in the 90's which incidentally was one of the reasons I stopped playing. I felt like things were getting too "gimmicky" or in other cases too serious about an activity that was ostensibly about "having fun". I felt that games were trying to sell us on their "Twist" or Color instead of focusing on giving us the tools to explore "The Beyond" that is what I think attr…

I'll put the TL;DR first: Friend of mine is running a game he loves, but I don't like. Torn between 'he's a friend, I'm obligated' and 'I'm not having fun, I should stay home'. The long version: He's running a game called Monster of the Week. It's designed to emulate things like Buffy, Grimm, urban fantasy shows with monster antagonists (and sometimes protagonists). The genre/concept itself, I don't mind, but the system is ... is ... there's almost no system to speak of. You have five stats, valued -1 to +3; Cool, Charm, Tough, Sharp, and Weird. To perform a 'Move' (as the game calls actions), you roll 2d6, add modifier. 7 or higher, you succeed. He…

I've been buying more board games lately. Unfortunately, the difference in price between online stores and my local board game store are pretty wide: a $10 difference or even $25 on the bigger, higher-priced games. The local store appears to just have everything set at standard retail price. Meanwhile, I can easily find a lower price online with free shipping. I'm not even referring to Amazon. I mean like CoolStuffInc and other places online. So... why should I buy locally? I have an urge to support a local business, but I honestly can't bring myself to pay this much extra money, repeatedly, when I can consistently save a non-negligible amount. I d…

I've been 3D printing Dragonlock terrain from Fat Dragon Games. I like it. It's quite suitable for dungeons, caverns, castles, etc. for fantasy. They have some starship floor plan parts as well. Does anyone else have some favorites to recommend? Obviously, since I'm pointing out Dragonlock, I've got no problem paying reasonable prices for quality stuff, but frankly my budget goes to gaming books first, then other stuff.
