In other actions, Twitter yanked the blue check from the New York Times account...with its 55 million followers.  Copied from KSL.com, spoilered for vulgar comment at the end.

Spoiler

While many legacy blue check marks are still appearing on the platform, shortly after announcing it would not pay a fee for any Twitter verification mark, The New York Times, which has almost 55 million followers on the platform, had its account verification check removed. On Sunday, Musk lampooned the paper in a series of tweets, calling its content "propaganda" and characterizing the publication's Twitter feed as "the equivalent of diarrhea."

Musk seems to be doing everything he can to drive away every significant advertiser in the country, and potentially a good chunk of users that haven't left.  Or if someone can develop a viable alternative, the loss of a massive account.  The general reason I've seen for most pulling out, has been the erratic nature of the platform.  This only seems to reinforce that perception.  And should an account of the size of NYT leave, that will also lower Twitter's appeal to advertisers.

Oh, and NPR reports Musk said earlier today "the label might not have been accurate."

NPR has nothing to fear from Elon Musk calling it "State-affiliated media." I dare say anyone who would take Musk seriously already thinks far worse of NPR -- and doesn't listen anyway.

Twitter seems to be continuing its spiral to self-destruction...possibly a bit slower than I thought, but it is still going as they consistently manage to antagonize.  There's a big conference next week with execs from numerous major companies, trying to attract them back as advertisers.  This feels like it may be a watershed moment.  If Musk can convince enough of them, Twitter may yet have a chance to recover.  (I still wouldn't bet on that;  Musk shoots himself in the foot far too often, so there's every chance they won't stay on board.)  If not, then the spiral will, I think, accelerate.

Them and the Rutles! It worked for the Pre=Fab Four, it works for Metallica, and I'll bet it works for other rock bands too.

I'm not into rock, but I've been known to fuel my creativity with a cuppa now and then, too.

Don't give me that shocked look. I live in Washington State. Tea is legal here.

"Legal" is not the same as "socially acceptable".  I already get funny looks when I order a black coffee at the Starbucks counter, like a heretic.

That's because that characteristic Starbucks Char demands its heavy makeover.  You're not a heretic, just insane enough that being around you is cause for alarm.
