DC Movies- if at first you don't succeed...

While I had qualms about suicidal Pa Kent trying to raise a fearful, apathetic hermit and thought the destructo-porn final battle went on quite a bit longer than it needed to, Man of Steel didn't entirely fall down on giving us a recognizable Superman. Clark was willing to surrender and sacrifice himself for the good of humanity, took a strong moral stance against his fellow Kryptonians when they revealed themselves to be genocidal war criminals, and even showed a bit of charm and a smile or two in his interactions with Lois Lane and General Swanwick. (I'll remind people of the scenes with the reverend in church, Lois in the interrogation room, Colonel Hardy in the wake of the battle in Smallville, and the conversation with Swanwick at the end.) There was a lot of potential for him to develop into the Superman we know and love from that introduction, Snyder just pissed it away in his eagerness to film The Dark Night Returns.

Ah yes. The natural evolution of superhero movie costumes (zero color).

I realize there will be a narrative explanation for it, but I still find it amusing that Snyder found a way to make Superman literally as dark as possible. Aquaman's costume is so dark as to be virtually black. Cyborg is monochromatic metal. If it weren't for Flash and Wonder Woman, there would be virtually no color at all in the Justice League. I think I understand now why they didn't want Green Lantern in the movie...he'd have added way too much color!

After last season, I decided that the only way I would watch this season is if that made Wally West the Flash and left Barry Allen in the Speed Force.  I don't think that the actor they have playing Wally has the charisma to carry a series, but I was more than willing to give him a chance to prove me wrong.  Since that is not happening, when the season comes back in October it is coming back with one less viewer.

It's too bad that Supergirl trailer doesn't show us much (if any) of the big bad of the season (Reign). We get a hint of Kara's internal struggle this season (shrugging off her humanity), but not of the external one. Most superhero tv shows and movies get criticized for having weak villains, and Supergirl has been no exception. The hope among fans is that Reign will change that perception somewhat, but it's almost as if the CW is still trying to keep her a secret or something.

um, on legends, didn't over half the stuff they showed happen last season?

From 0:19 to 1:05 or so was the new stuff. The first 19 seconds were the last 19 of last season. The stuff after the minute five mark was a mashup of mostly last season stuff with a couple new things tossed in, probably to advertise the DVD of last season at the end.

I just watched the Comic-Con Justice League panel from Hall H where Ben Affleck addressed the question, raised by Chris Hardwick almost right off the bat (obviously to get it out of the way), regarding his future as Batman, and you will notice that he actually does not deny the rumors. Instead, he very adroitly deflects and just talks very enthusiastically about how lucky he has been to be Batman in two movies. And he praises Matt Reeves for being a great director, but anything relating to his future in the Bat suit is only very vaguely implied and nothing concrete is actually said (leaving himself lots of wiggle room for plausible deniability later on when the bad news breaks officially). I just think that when an actor is that careful to avoid saying anything definitive, it is because they want to evade the question and not answer it for real. For a reason.

Clearly, I am not the only one who picked up on this:

I've always liked the 'resurrection' black costume from Death of Superman and think that looks great - so long as he doesn't wear it in future movies.

Though could that poster GET any more Mesiah-ish?  Back from the dead, sun illuminating him from behind to show that hope has returned, even rocking a beard.

One of the best things DC did with Superman's faux death was the faux returns.  All those guys who weren't actually Superman but showed up to fill his shoes.  We got some great characters out of that such as Steel (who DC seems to have just abandoned, sadly) and it was interesting watching how each tried to be Superman but couldn't quite pull it off (especially one that was a villain, Metallo I think).
