WARNING: this is a little long... I'd like some feedback on if what I've written so far for my as yet unnamed homebrew world is viable. Zathi: Reptile-like, with snake-like skin and smoother faces. The also have sharp, carnivore teeth as opposed to tusks and ear holes instead of ears. Poor hearing and average eyesight and scent, they have an exceptional touch sense, often being able to tell when an enemy is sneaking up on them from the tremors of the ground. Aggressive and warlike, they separate into tribes that don’t cooperate well. Certain tribes harbor deep antagonism towards specific others, leading to a natural rivalry. With a male dominated caste s…

Hi! I am about to GM the famous Warhammer Campaign The Enemy Within. I don't want to use all the work Killer Shrike or midhir( correct nick? I don't remember exactly) has done with their transformation tables from Warhammer to Hero System. I rather want to look if the foe is a Ork for example, then I will use the Ork given in Monsters, Minions and Maraudeurs. If the Heros face a bandit, I want to take ready writeup also... No my question: Has anyone experience with that kind of dealing with the situation, how did it work and most important with how many points did you start with and how many experience points should the heros have at the end of each book (i wa…

This is the chronicle of my Fantasy HERO campaign in the Turakian Age setting. Being an attempt at cheap amusement for this board, and a means of analyzing my own GMing procedures, I am posting reports and impressions of the game here, as RDU Neil did for his Dark Champions campaign “Secret Worlds.†Set-Up (pre May 20) I have four players: Dustin, my niece’s 13-year old son, who’s living with his Granddad (my brother) and me for the time being while the niece gets her life together. Gary Ciaramella (known on these boards as ‘Gary Ciaramella’), one of my best friends and gaming buddies. Don, an even older friend, and ex-roommate, who’s now…

Some ideas I've suggested to GMs needing plots in their games These are not the Druids you are looking for A case of mistaken identity - one or more PCs are "recognised" by local authorites as eco-terrorists that recently began magical attacks on settlements in the area. Added complications happen when followers of these leaders start coming to the PCs for missions. Or possibly one PC is captured by authorites and the followers need to be recruited to get them out of jail. Tanks for the memories A renegade alchemist has found a way to bottle magic and store it in containers. It lowers the ambient magic level of the areas he's sucked magic from - basically…

Okay...I just got the Black Company setting book and I really dig it, and plan on using much of it for my own mercenary game in a somewhat fantasy-high tech fantasy world. My favorite part of Black Company is the magic system. I had planned on using the BC book for the game, till I got the HERO 5ER book, and now I want to run it using HERO. The Magic system in BC is like this: Wizards gain a spell. The spell has a base description for base ability. The wizard, through the use of augmentations, can willingly increase the power of the spell but at the same time requiring a much higher Magic Use skill check to cast the spell. The only limit is Spell Energy used and…

I'm starting a Fantasy Hero game this weekend (again) and this time around I'd like to deal with 8-strength pickpockets in heavy plate armor before it has a chance to come up. The first (and so far best) idea I had was to put Strength Minimums on armor. This game is, like most of mine, a low-powered game in which characters don't pay for equipment. But what should the Str Min be for different armors? What effects should exceeding the Str Min have? What about not meeting it? What, if any, general penalties should be applied to those who wear armor? I've come up with this so far, but I'd like your comments, criticism, and ideas. Armor Type DEF STR…

Ogre Lion Found on both sides of the Razor Peaks, the Ogre Lion is best described as a Great Cat with a few important differences. Firstly, the creatures head is quite clearly that of an Ogre, complete with a full busy beard and pointed ears. The beard twitches and sparks constantly, and can be used by the creature to dispel magic in a large area around itself. After surviving an encounter withthe beast, the beard retains the ability to dispel, if used in amulets, armlets or bangles designed for that purpose. The number of "Real Points" in the beard, and the exact method of activation is left as an excerise in cooperation between the victorious player and his Ev…

First off let me explain that I do not own FH, but I own the Grimoire for other reasons. There is a paragraph in the Grimoire that states. All Attack spells must take the -1/2 Spell limintation from FH page 246. Could someone please tell me what this limitation is. I need to know if I should continue to use it or if I need to rework every Attack spell in the book. Thanks in advance. A.

Rezani Thousands of years ago, during the period known to the powerful and paranoid as the Occupation, the Dharzooni Masters perfected the technique of animating non-living matter. One terrible success of their's was the Rezani, the Liquid Glass Assassin. After all this time, the creatures still function, waking from their long slumber beneath the earth to seek the hunt once again. Typically, the creature will inhabit an area for a time, learning the ways of the locals before assuming an appearance best suited to finding prey. They were programmed in the distant past to request targets. Wanting nothing, they simply hire themselves out to whomever will simply…

Wasup Hero fans, I have a problem. I am running a lowpowered superheroic fantasy hero game. Well, here in a few weels the PCs will be adventuring into a dungeon. So I am officially announcing an un-official contest to see who can make the best traps. Ranging from ambushing and attacking the PCs to the ones that play with the PCs mind, to the really nasty Illusions that confuse them. The winner of this contest will recieve 1000 unspent Character points to add to their PC and unleash on their GM. Well....LET THE GAMES BEGIN

Hi! I'm preparing to run a Fantasy hero with characters built on 75 points with 75 points of disadvantages. I was thinking of limiting most character concepts to 50 points max on ability scores. It will be a setting where combat magic is reduced in effectiveness (but still viable). My question is...how do these starting characters compare to D&D 3rd Edition Characters? Are they rookies? Given the amount of skills that they can buy, I was thinking that they might be roughly 5th level equivalent D&D guys...but I really don't know. Can you anyone suggest a rough guideline of the power level?

In the movie Troy, what is the name of the type of armor worn by the Trojan soldiers? It's a long shirt with small rectangular metal plates and forearm and shin guards.

Ynai, the Kythrosian Rune of consisting of the conjoined symbols of Yai (Fire) and Nai (Air), can be activated in one of two ways. Enduring, whereby the rune is carved into a specially-prepared stone of Eogann and Fleeting, whereby the rune is painted onto a surface with pigments containing powdered Eogann and Elemental Water. In either case, waves of power will pulse continuously from the mark until either is defaced. The area in front of the Rune will show evidence of the rune at a distance of (active pointsx5) scale inches. Placed at the end of a long hallway, the rune makes effective security against all the but the most powerful wizards. Ynai - Enduring Rune…

DEX is used too much 1 2

I love Fantasy Hero as a system (I bombard our city's RPG discussion board with my praise ) but I think DEX is used too much. We should have Agility and Quickness that make up the DEX skill. Agility for how agile you are and... Quickness for your reflex speed. Its common to be quick but not necessarily agile. I don't like how Dex is the sole base skill to affect base OCV and DCV. I want thieves (for example) to be agile etc without having a base OCV of 6 or 7!!! Why can't Intelligent affect OCV or intelligence? btw, i really hate hit points and love how FH does Body and Stun

In my my fantasy game, many of the players often make the argument that racial disads do NOT, or should come out of base disads. Therefore actually making it a package 'Deal'. That way there is a reason to want to use a package deal. In a way i kind of agree, but I can see the argument both ways. I just want to know what other people out there do so I can fix my problem.

I'm curious how many other GM's and Players out there find that music can really help to set the mood while you're gaming. I know when I'm playing CRPG's like Neverwinter Nights for instance, that sometimes the music track can really add alot to the game. I've gathered a few CD's that I think will really add drama and feel to a FH game. The LOTR Movie Soundtracks. I've got both Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers and there's some GREAT tracks for an FH game on them. (Having "The Bridge of Khazad Dum" playing behind any battle makes it epic.") Conan The Barbarian. Obviously a wonderfully orchestrated movie. Great battle tracks here, too. Anythi…

I'm a little confused about how some Rule of X limits on skill levels interact with other things that can raise your roll. I'm specifically looking at how it would affect skills used for spellcasting, if that matters. For example, let's say I've set a limit of 13- for skill rolls for starting characters. So, Bob the Wizard buys Necromancy up to 13-. His uncle gives him a Widget of Magical Potency that gives +2 to magic skill rolls. Can he now use 15- as the roll or should he still be limited by that original 13-?
