Bony Jaws!

I don't recall seeing many magical, deadly fish around here... so here goes. Tell me.. would expanding the Invisibility power to simulate pattern matching with the sea floor be too overpowering for most PCs? I know it's hard to balance such things with the open-ended nature of HERO... but I thought I'd ask... Bony Jaws Terror of the Circular Sea to the south of Saduria, the Bony Jaws is valued for the rare Ytrann found in its bones. Ytrann is processed into Rings of Invisibility, Charms of Shielding and half a dozen other magic items of utility. few hunters are brave or stupid enough to go after them, despite the obvious rewards. Its favored tactic is t…

How do people out there introduce new characters to each other? I used to just connect people through each other, but it's a lot more interesting to link them together with something in common allowing them to bond without having to resort to "you meet your friends in a tavern and decide you want to go adventuring together." So, anyone have any good intro scenarios they've run?

OK, one of the problems I've had in Fantasy Hero is keeping track of a bunch of enemies who are attacking the party. Body is easy enough to keep track of, add Stun to that and it's only slightly tougher but keeping track of body, stun and end has been a problem. Is it just me? Does anyone out there have any tools they use to keep track of these things? thanks

I noticed that the Fantasy HERO standard of magical crafting, such as the creation of Scrolls, seems to be based on a KS. However, since the character is actually making something, should it not be a PS instead? It doesn't really matter, since both are background skills that cost the same, but it just seemed kinda weird to me. Any thoughts?

A character in my group is going to have big wings (think winged-elf). The player wants a spell she can cast that will remove the wings and allow her to pass as "normal" among land bound folk. How the heck would I create that? Shapechange only allows a 10% increase or decrease in mass, and I don't think that would be enough considering their size. Also it seems to me that Shapechange is really quite illusory anyway. Invisibility limited to the wings would still have the problem that the character could still fly (and bump into things). Multi-form would create a "static" version of herself that would not reflect her experience as she grows (short of recre…

Is it possible to use the standard fantasy tropes in a world with no magic? If magic is defined as "any action that violates the laws of cuase and effect", then magic is logically contradictory and therefore CANNOT exist. most fnantasy GMs don;t enforce a ligikcal cosmos, but if you did then there can;t be real magic. What there can be is a pervasive belief that magic exists, leading many people to think that magical effects are possible or even common. And you can have numerous con artists and charlatans taking advanmtage of that belief to sell worthless postions, take money for putting non-existant hexes on people's enemies, etc. Character can go to magical he…

I have decided to run a low powered campaign in a setting of my own design. Characters will have 50 base points + 50 points from disadvantages. I intend for the PC's to have better than normal stats, but don't want them to be that much better than compotent NPC's built on 50-75 points (i.e. Town gaurdsmen, Local priests, or goblin warriors). Where I want the PC's to shine is the range of skills, talents and perks they have compared to the Average NPC. I have come up with several house rules to alleviate the problem of stat inflation, and I'd like your feedback on my ideas. 1. Strength costs 2 points instead of 1. 2. Players can spend no more 60 points o…

The Letter B is now done whoever wants the HD2 file contact me offline, I tried posting the HD2 file and it said I had exceeded a quota of some kind. The computer issue was just a bad cable and a card that had come unseated. so all is good 30 Backslap: EB 3d6, Penetrating (+1/2), Double Knockback (+3/4), Indirect (Any origin, any direction; +3/4) (45 Active Points); Custom Modifier (Not in vacumn or darkness to sound; -1/2) 25 Bad Night: Drain DEX 3d6, Trigger (Activating the Trigger requires a Zero Phase Action, Trigger requires a Turn or more to reset, Character does not control activation of personal Trigger; Triggered by Waking; +1/4), Delayed Retu…

Anyone go some good fantasy campaign ideas? I don't just mean quests or dungeons that would fit within a D&D/Tolkien framework... , I mean, complete world creation...

Hey discussion board groupies, I have a player who wants to be a Bard, but Bard spells are a bit tricky, since they tend to be buffs on other characters. Not wanting to use the regular old "here is some force field" approach, I would like a spell that actually makes other people better fighters. I thought about Aid:Succor for a boost to STR and DEX while the song lasts, but that is sort of boring. Besides, in a Fantasy setting 2d6 of STR doesn't really feel all that impressive, and 4d6 of STR boost is just ridiculous. DEX on the other hand, is too expensive for low power Aid to feel interesting. Here is what I came up with, and I would love feedback on whether th…

Thinking about the converted magic item thread, made me want to write up some twisted ones that are strange combinations of magic items in D&D. Folding Servant This looks like a small squishy multicolored lump, oddly warm to the touch. It can be "unfolded" into a servant who will serve willing in whatever task that it was designed. When done, it can be "folded" back into a squishy multicolored lump that fits easily into any pouch. It can also be "unfolded" into different types of servants. Summon 25-pt. Servant, (5 Active Points), +1 Slavishly Loyal, +1/4 Any type of servant, -1 1/4 Extra Time: 1 Turn, -1 OAF - Squishy Lump, -2 Independent (2 Real P…

Fixed the costs to the Silver Piece scale in Fantasy Hero, Made everything a Custom Power (so there's no 'naked modifer active points' note on the character sheet), and included the missing equipment: food, lodging, livestock, herbs, services, transportation, and animal gear.

hello, The GM for a Roman based fantasy game I'm playing in asked me to make up a martial art for the roman soldiery. My initial thoughts were that skill levels would serve better for common soldier training, but he seemed pretty keen on the MA idea. I wrote up an Armatura style based on what little I could find. I'm not the most knowlegable person on the Roman military, or for that matter the Hero MA system so any helpful advice is welcome.. Armatura Cost Martial Arts Maneuver 1 Weapon Element: Blades, Shields 1 Extra Weapon Element: Spears 3 Thrust: 1/2 Phase, +0 OCV, +1 DCV, Weapon Strike +2 DC [Notes: From shield wall +1 DCV…

I've been looking for a 30x30 bitmap of a gnome character that doesn't look, well, queer. I've found lawn gnomes and mushroom-sitting gnomes and fishing gnomes, but no adventure-level gnomes. I really like the one who is in the Races section of the Turakian Age (book isn't with me so forgive me if I'm wrong) with the short, wide beard. Any help would be appreciated.

What program was used to make the maps in the Turakian Age campaign book? They're fantastic! Was it just some mad Photoshop skills, or am I going to have to suck it up and by some professional map program like Campaign Cartographer. Anyways, props, etc.

This is something one of my players brought up. They thought was odd that vulnerability vs Body in FH was not worth more than Vulnerability vs Stun, since Body is more likely to kill you in a "Heroic" setting. So, I started thinking. Should Vulnerability attacks against Body be worth more than the same vulnerability against Stun? Like a +5 Adder or something? Thoughts? I mean, in a Superheroic game, its not as big a deal as often defenses more than account for the Body done, and it practically takes vulnerability to suffer body. But, in Heroic, where def is lower and vulnerability to body based attacks seems like a quick ticket to painful slaughter.

Okay, so I'm drawing a city map for the world I've been working on. The way I see it, there are two extremes for drawing an urban map: the extreme detail, where every shanty, outhouse, and pigsty is precisely located and described, and the extreme overview, where the map is basically a city-shaped grouping of districts, with no more detail than "here is where the nobles live" and "this is the bad part of town". I don't really want to put in the work for the former (at least right up front...if it happens as a natural development of running the campaign, so be it), but I want to convey more information than the latter, and I'm not sure where I should draw the line.…

I'm working on a technique for a character. The flavour text goes like this: Through the use of shiatsu massage, a person's ch'i flows can be realigned to be more in harmony with their physical and spiritual selves. This helps remove the barriers to good health, filling the body with ch'i at even higher levels than before. Now what I'm looking for in gamespeak is a superskill that doubles the REC of the subject, enables them to Regen 1 BODY per day, and adds some of the low-level Life Supports (reduced sleep, reduced breathing, stuff like that). Not too hard on my own, though I'd like to see if anyone has any ideas on cheap effects of improved health. Now i…

Recently, I have been asked to run a high powered fantasy Hero campaign, based on 250 point characters, Has anyone tried this before and has any advice or warning about such a campaign?
