Hello all On my home RPG site in Wellington New Zealand http://central.rpg.net.nz/cgi-bin/cutecast/cutecast.pl?session=1jRwFAjlsUulVSK86nEnNSWJxl&forum=3&thread=1150&page=1#3 I get a bit of stick for ranting about Fantasy Hero being much supieior to other game systems esp d20 and D&D (yuck!!). Found this link of why D&D sucks - quite funny and true... Thought this could be a good forum to post it http://kuoi.asui.uidaho.edu/~kamikaze/RPG/wrong_adnd.php Also while I'm here New Zealanders are referred to as Kiwi's - not that small green fruit but our national bird and we are def. not part of Australia. Cheers ears …

Well me and one of my friends every once in a while like to discuss crossovers of universes (comic, fantasy, sci-fi, etc). But the last one that we had recently popped back in my head. And I thought it might make for a fun little discussion. So how would the Drow from D&D have affected the Lord of the Rings trilogy?

Imagine you have these uncaring, nearly dead gods, imprisioned in various areas around your fantasy world. Got it? Okay, now suppose some folks figure out these Dead Gods are out there, and they begin to supplicate them... The Dead Gods aren't actually aware of this behavior. They just soak up the magic provided by sacrifices, bloodletting and ritual scarification, and return a little power through some mystical "feedback loop." Clearly, these aren't the type of gods who grant spells with the "Only while performing in the god's interest (-1/2)" sorts one finds in other games. You have spells that you like to use, you power them with an END Reserve…

If you were one of my players, about to recieve his spankin' new copy of the Age of Storms Campaign Guide which will organize 22 years of gaming (Most of it HERO or GURPS, compiled from various notes and stuff and updated to conform with FReD...), how would you want the Races laid out? Racial, Cultural and Professional Package, but some professions have special stuff... where's it go? Would you want the Power Builds (Spells lists, Ch'i powers, Holy Invocations of Divine Stompin' and the like...) after each package, or all compiled at the end of the chapter? Or in a chapter of their own? HELP!

I'm working on a spell that brings a dead person back to life for precisely 24 hours. The deceased must have been dead for no longer than 24 hours for the spell to work. How would you write that up?

Has anyone had issues with the rules for adding DC to weapons based on Advantages? They seem overly complicated to me, for one, and for another they bother me from consistancy sake. For example, a character is strong enough to do 2d6 with his weapon. He can actually hope to kill an unarmored opponent with a single swing (NPC thug that is). Then, he picks up Woozafatz, the Mail Cleaver. Woozafatz has Armor Piercing. Suddenly, a sword exactly like his old one ('cept for its magic) is limited to doing 1.5 d6 on a swing, and having no chance at dropping an unarmored opponent (though it will do more damage to armored opponents of course). Does this cause a p…

I've been designing and even playtesting a fantasy campaign level of extremely low proportions. The powerlevel is so low, that this version literally becomes pen and paper. You do not need Hero Designer at all to make characters and using it actually slows down the character creation process. Character creation is simple: Start all attributes at 8 instead of 10. Now build at 0 + 10 disadvantages. You can only spend points on skills, attributes, perks, and talents. You get 100 SP starting cash. Here is a sample character: Currently, I'd only allow humans because of how I'm running the campaign. But to do other races, I would be package …

Robbers on the Road 1 2 3
by Guest taxboy4- 55 replies

Its a Fantasy Standard that the Heroes get ambushed on the road by robbers / bandits. I have some troubles with this though - the players tend to slaughter them, as most robbers are poor and desparate skill and weapon wise. And when they were attacked by organised robbers, the PC's fought to the death anyway - afterwards when I asked why - they said its because everyone knows when you surrender to robbers and they kill/rape/rob you (not necessarily in that order!!) Has any other GM's had some cool ideas to do with Robbers or any suggestions. p.s. as an aside Goblins are cool monsters and I use them all the time, the tricky little buggers

I've been in the proccess of desiging my own campaign world for the past year or so. I have maps, magic, alchemy, etc.... the problem is how to establish the economy in my world. I have no ideas how to base the cost of living, rate of taxation, cost for supplies, and individual coin value. to give a rough time frame, the setting is around 13th-14th century. I am not knowledged about ecomonics or anything similar. Any help would be greatly apprieciated.

Most fantasy games are based on the Medieval era, albeit loosely. Has anyone tried to run a campaign set in ancient Egypt, Greece, or Rome? I know of a few gaming products that were written for them, but I don't know how well they did.

I'm trying to figure out how to write up Yuko, the anti-heroine of CLAMP's new urban fantasy manga XXXholic, for Hero. Yuko is a fabulous character. Obviously she's a powerful mage, with a reach that extends throughout the infinity of universes. Apparently she's been alive for hundreds of years (she may have an affair with Clow Read in her past) and knows just abotu every mysictally-oriented character in the CLAMP multiverse. As for personality, she is wheimsical, eccentric, and treats poor Watanuki like the burnables. If CLAMP had been the creatoe of Doctor Who, the character would have turned out a whole lot like Yuko. She reminds me of a much prettier William…

Summoning Spell Limitation Question
by Guest Worldmaker- 14 replies

I'm writing up a spell entitled A Summons One Dares Not Deny. Essentially, this spell allows the caster to bring any sentient being of whom he has a correct name and physical description of into his presence, as long as that being is within 100 miles of him. So, the question: what limitation value does "Summoner Must Know Target's Full Name And Have A Detailed Description Of Being" have, do you think?

Is it possible in Fh to build a "Flesh to Stone" spell that is either reviersible (you can use a spell to restore the victim to living fhesh with his soul intact, rather than truning the statue into a corpse) or reverses itself after a given period of time? (The latter effect would enable a mage to cast the spell on HIMSELF and come out of it, say, a hundred years later).

I've been thinking of one way to present the traditional animosity between Elves and Orcs as possibly a tragic metaphor. I don;t know how many roleplayers are into tragic characters, but it can be a good plot hook if nothing else. Orcs, in this example, would be relentlessly expanding outwards because they are so fertile. orc women are baby machines who give birth in litters of eight to ten. An orc population will soon outstrip the ability of the lands it inhabits to support it -- thus it will ahve to expand relentlessly or the whole community will perish from starvation. And this naturally will have a negative effect on everything in their path that isn't an Orc. …

Conversion of (What was his name?)

Amazingly, I've finally finished my conversion of the level 31 Sorceror I solo'd BG2 and TOB with (okay, okay, so I cheated on the last two battles - I knew what I needed to do to win, I just didn't have the patience to prove it). Anyway, here he is. (The Summons/Shapeshift are simply as powerful a summon as the relevant AP's stretched to, the Slayer form is him, minus spells, plus 300 points of Hand to Hand goodness.) (Okay, so he has almost no Disadvantages and no Skills. Frankly, I'm not sure what else would suit... and I was too happy about finishing him to think about that anyway... and what kinds of skills ARE appropriate anyway?) 3 STR 13 69 DEX…

Has anyone here ever tried using map editors or world editors from video games such as Age of Empires II, Empire Earth, Morrowind, Dungeon Siege, etc. for generating relatively small scale maps. It occurred to me last night that these things have pretty nice editors in some cases, with terrain, buildings, and lots of other goodies that would make for some pretty nice small scale maps. The trick is exporting them to a decent format. With most of them, you can take a screen shot that creates what I assume will be a .bmp on the Clipboard. This could then be imported as a background with some of the free map generating programs available on the web and overlain with a…
