At least according to FH, in which a 45 str is required to lift a Heavy Trebuchet. Tsk tsk. That's heavier than me.

So here I am, churning out stuff for my new campaign Im working on, I was debating between Fantasy Hero and D&D, and Fantasy Hero won out. so I come accross the section concerning buying armor, & 50sp per kg or armor... does anyone have a pre built list or armors with prices? will the new edition have prefigured equipment lists for weapons and armor (including prices)? The game is becoming more "technical" than I want

Will Fantasy Hero include conventions for imitating console rpg's like maybe genre descriptions or something like that. Maybe the stats for a giant yellow riding chicken. Or is the book just going to center around classical fantasy backgrounds. just curious is all

I've been playing in a D&D3 game for about 3 months now. (Before everyone gets their panties in a bunch, I can't find a Hero game, and this problem isn't directly the fault of D&D3) The game is OK, but the lack of any sort of purpose or design to the game world is really starting to get me down. Magic doesn't make sense, the character classes make less sense, the other players are good guys, but they seem to have zero sense of style or concern with continuity. There is no mystery, no drama...I don't know, something is missing. I just got copied in on an e-mail between one player and the GM today. I think it really highlights my problem.... "I have…

In the new campaign I'm writing up, I'm going to try a new approach to magic, and I would like some feedback. I am treating each individual spell as a skill. Spells are purchased as 2 pt. skills much like science or professional skills for 3 pts. the character gets the appropiate stat roll (Int. for alchemy and ego for wizardry). Every additional point grants a +1 bonus to the skill roll. There are also appropriate skill modifiers. "Alchemist" grants the charachter a 1 pt. cost break on alchemical formulae (spells) and "True Mage" grants the same for wizard spells. However, skill rolls are modified by the real point cost of the spell. For every five real points…

For anybody that has played Talislanta and understands its magic system, what would be the best way to achieve its versatility using the HERO system?

I did a write-up of Bill Kings Gotrek (Trollslayer) for the 5th and it is posted on his site if anyone cares to critique it.. http://www.trollslayer.net/Gotrek.html Btw I used the supers rules and not heroic as he is nearly a 300 point combat machine.

If your reading this, I would like to find I good resource for finding an artist, Ink, and getting some illo's for my soon to start campaign. Ranging from Coastal City-state to creatures to NPC"S. Yes, I know Storn is great. i would try him, but for one thing. He retains all rights to the work, and I, who comissioned it get a copy. Not like I am looking to publish but as much as he likes to retain his rights, I like to retain my intellectual Property. So, any leads for me, where I could check out some samples would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Is there any information on what the approximate page count of Fantasy Hero will be? Alas, the catalog on the main page seems to list this only for books due in 2004, but not for books that aren't as far away, like Fantasy Hero. Hopefully it will be over 300 pages, like Star Hero.

Ive been wondering recently about magic systems and i know that theres plenty of ways fo creating magic systems. But what would be the best way of creating conflicting magic systems which dispell each other differantly. I want to create a fantasy campaign where elves and humans use differing forms of magic one arcadian and the other arcane. However arcadian magic dispells arcane easier then arcane dispels arcadian magic and in the elves home realm arcadian magic does it even better. what i was thinking is for characters who where not using "divine" magic would have to choose which magic theyre using and then adding a 1d6 bonus to dispell/supress rolls vrs…

I copied these from the original message boards before they crashed. I wasn't sure if these were recovered or not, since I haven't tried to delve much into the old stuff, but I thought I would toss these up here in case anyone still wanted them. There aren't many spells here, and some of them are WAY above most people's Active Point levels, but there are still some interesting ideas here. Feel free to add your own. Sorry that I don't have the names of the people who posted these, since I only copied the text and not the names. My apologies to everyone who isn't given their proper due credit. Helpfully, Steve

Greetings! As some of you may know, I am developing and writing a bestiary of Asian creatures from folklore, legend, and myth. What I am asking now, is if anyone can direct me to any good souces for Asian folklore and the like. Or, any Asian monsters/creatures you'd like to see included. Or, any information you might have on any creatures. Thanks!

OK, folx, now that the new message boards are working, it’s time to start the promised thread about what you’d like to see in Fantasy Hero. To guide the conversation, and hopefully save everyone time, I’m going to start with two things. The first is a brief summary of the outline and contents of the book as they now currently exist in my pointed li’l noggin and computer files. You’ll note that it’s similar in structure to other genre books, particularly Star Hero. The second is a list of things I won’t be doing or including. FANTASY HERO OUTLINE Chapter One, The Fantasy Genre: an exploration of the various subgenres of fantasy (high, low, …

I know jack squat about the game world, but I'm interested in finding out more. So what's the deal with it? I.E.... 1) What races are in it? 2) What're the nations, and what's their character? 3) Do you make characters from scratch, or do they have something akin to classes from D&D? As in "You buy this point package in order to be a Wizard". Something like that? Appreciate any and all help in this, as I'm debating on whether I should buy it or not.

I'm somewhat new to the Hero System. Been playing for about 3 years and only running a campaigns for about 1 or so. So far the one thing i have had the most trouble with is any type of possession skill. Demon possession and the like. Is there a way to do it without having the cost of it be obnoxiously high? Any help is appreciated.

A looooong time ago (like, 1998 or so) I wrote four or five articles for the old Digital Hero that were conversions of Talislantan martial arts to Hero System. I can't find them on my PC; I can't find them on the web. Anybody got copies, or are they "lost in time, like tears in the rain"?

How would you do a character that is completely immune to fear? It's relatively easy to do a character immune to a particular energy or physical attack with Desolidification, but you can no longer make your Desolid character immune to Mental attacks for an additional 20 points, right? And giving a character very high Mental Defense and Presence, Only To Resist Fear, makes him resistant, but does not make him immune. So how do you guys think this could be done?

Hello, I'm new here. I bought a used copy of the BBB in a thrift shop a while ago, and now I actually think I want to use it. An idea I had that could fit in with some things that'd be happening later on in the campaign would be a prologue, a pretty cliche fantasy scenario with prefab characters to get people (including me) acquainted with the system and do some plot stuff. I do have a few concerns with how things have been going so far. The big one is that writing up stuff has been barely going at all, since I'm trying to steer far from standard stereotyped characters. I've got one PC almost written up, but almost no ideas as to how to expand things. Some other ones…

Has anyone actually PLAYED this level on a Fantasy Campaign. I haven't had this much fun on a fantasy game in ages. Character creation is actually much harder. 50 pts to build the entire character. You have to be very careful about what skills and powers to pick. I have a Lumina Priestess and spent most of my points on having a 10 point Multipower Reserve. I can only read the minds of small children and animals. And we just earned 3 XP. Talk about excitement. It was like winning the lottery getting enough XP to raise a power Telepathy half-a-die and buying a familiarity. There is much fun to 25/25 campaigns.

In a new campaign I'm working up, I am starting a campaign Specific rule that adds a new Characteristic, Manna. Some GMs use Manna as Magic Only END. They allow Mages to get it from certain sources and then provide those sources in game play. I recently saw a web site that suggested letting the Mage recover Manna with a good night's sleep. I thought: why not make a new Characeteristic? It begins at EGOx2 and cost 1 point per point to increase. REC adds to it, just like END. But if it reaches 0, you're out until you recharge. Yes, I want opinions!

I didn't want to hijack OberonGX's thread, so I decided to start one of my own. I got a question for all you HERO gurus; when it comes to creating Templates (forgive me SJG for my theft), how much is too much? In modern settings it's different (at least I think so), but in fantasy settings you would be justified in having three templates; racial, occupational, and cultural. And in each of those, you could get even more detailed;give them facets that the basic concept doesn't have. What I want to know is, how much do you put into your templates? I like mine to be pretty detailed, but sometimes this means that they get pretty point heavy; skills and perks cost, bo…

I've been working on a HERO campaign set in the Forgotten Realms world for a while now and I finally have the very basics worked out. Right now, I have just the stuff I'd need to get my campaign up and running: Package deals for all the major PC races from the FR sourcebook and a simple magic system. More will almost certainly added later. The magic system is NOT intended as a straightforward translation of the one from Dungeons & Dragons. I have no interest in that. I only wanted something that was simple, balanced and preserved the distinction between arcane and divine magic in the Realms. Anyway, I'd love any feedback you might have. I know the deep…
