I zoomed in on the picture and was reading (sort of) the back cover of FH. I'm not positive, but I believe it says there are mass combat rules/guidelines. Did I read correctly? Spence

ok, i already asked steve about this here: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3788 and i didnt quite get the answer i was looking for... so ill aks everyone this time: ok, this is proabably a stupid question and might be more rellevant for the fantasy forum but i was having an arguement and it quickly began to become heated over this. If you buy a package deal which contains a rise in your char maxima does this also mean your base value has increased and hence you dont have to pay points for it? example: lets say the GM permits a race of super strong orc/dwarf half breed which contains a CHAR maxima of +10 STR. this would mean that o…

Is it just me or is anyone else salivating over the release of this product. I'm still somewhat new to the HERO game system and can hardly wait for the new release. I've been looking for an alternative fantasy system to replace our current sytem. I talked to some of my players at our last game session and the general concensus is that as much as we like D&D the 3e system just doesn't do it for us. And with the pending realese of 3.5 no one seems even remotely interested in purchasing the new books. So I will make the switch to HERO:D I've been use the resources here and on the web to steal...err I mean put together a FH game. It's just amazing what can be done with …

Okay, I dont' have 4e Fantasy Hero (spose I really should try finding it on Ebay) so I don't know how Scrolls are Handled. I imagine they would be whatever spell is on it, with a single charge (duration figured in), OAF (Anyone can see the spell, and can use Mage Hand to take it away) as well as IND (cuz anyone can use the Scoll). So how would 'Discern Alignment' be handled? I figure Detect: Alignment, with Ranged... but I don't know what else to add to that.

I'm currently in a quandry. Half of the players in my group are belly aching about having to learn a new system for the upcoming campaign, i.e. FH. This campaign is going to be a continuation of a previous campaign that was played using D&D 3ed. After playing under those rules for six months the games became more like torture than play. I know some people are in to that kind of thing, but I'm not. I started looking for alternatives to D&D. When I asked by local game store owner he gave me several options: Rolemaster, D&D 2nd ed, Gurps, Exalted, etc. I was almost sold on Gurps when I noticed this thick black tome in the generic games section right besid…

Hi all, How would you build a skill that let's a character have a pretty good chance of determining the value of any item they might come across (silver studded chalice, pentagonal amulet etc)? DnD 3e has the skill Appraise (and I only use this for illustrative purposes...the HERO skill system is WAY more complete in my opinion). I guess part of the problem, that there are potentially SO MANY ways to do this in HERO. What are some of the ways that you all have come up with? Here are my initial ideas: KS: Value of items PS: Merchant or PS: Thief Tim

Just wanted to let y'all know that Andy's putting the final touches on the FH manuscript even as I type. In another hour or three he'll whisk it over to FedEx, and tomorrow it will be in the hands of the printer. Taa-daaaaa.

How would you implement the following? I want Gestures and Incantations, but still have the ability fo use a spell without them. If you cannot make the gestures and incantations, you get a penalty to the casting. If you can make extra loud and forceful gestures and incantaions, you get a bonus.

I am attempting to make the HERO System work for Magi-Nation, a somewhat obscure CCG, and I need help with the summoning effect of the Orathan Flyer Effect -- Summoning: When your Magi plays a Creature, he or she may use energy from Orathan Flyer to pay for the Creature. The Creature's entire energy cost must be paid by Orathan Flyer. O and if anyone here is familiar with Magi-Nation I would love to have further suggestions on how to do Spells, Relics, and Magi (I have all the other Creatures done)

Hey, any idea how much one should mass general equipment? How much does a sword mass, anyway? Does anyone have some good rules of thumb on equipment mass?

Has anyone done any work converting Warhammer Fantasy Battle (not the RPG) statistics and abilities into Fantasy Hero equivalents? I have a giant pile of minis that can be used for role-playing purposes and I really enjoy the background information present in the various army books and game fiction novels. I would like to try my hand at running a game based on the Warhammer world, but I'm rather new at the whole roleplaying thing and would like to see someone else's efforts if possible. I especially look forward to the various types of wizards available and the plethora of non human races present.

Huh? Okay... I have some questions as to your assertions: 1) Where are these methods of changing the classes in D&D? In the DMG, where the entire class chapter is taken up by prestige classes (all of which I hated) exept for 1 page at the beginning? This, of course had the sage-like advise "Use the existing character abilities for reference." Thanks for the tip. 2) It took me exactly the time it took me to read through FREd to come up with the "how things work" scenerio for my game. It is not particularly difficult. As a matter of fact, there are even sheets in the old Fantasy HERO book that allow a GM to communicate these "setting rules" …

I have been doing a lot of work on my fantasy world and wanted to have some other opinions on the way I am handling the racial packages. I am doing all of their abilities, modifiers, etc. pretty much as in FREd, however, if I have a statistic increase, I still allow up to 10 stat points increase over the new base that is given (so a race that has a base STR of 12 can get to 22 before hitting NCM). However, there are these "racial" skill packages in the old Fantasy HERO. I don't know what the new one will suggest, but I never really liked these. What my plan is to make each race have slightly different Everyman skills (including humans) to reflect the different…

Hey All, This may get moved to the herodesigner thread, but being that what i am looking for is more fantasy hero based i will put it here first. Has anyone done any prefab/templates for the various fantasy races(elves, dwarves, hobbits/halflings/warrows/kinder, orcs, ogres, etc.) for herodesigner they would be willing to share here. Am planning to run a new campaign just as soon as Fantasy Hero comes(cant wait, cant wait, cant wait, aaaarrrgghhh). Thanks in advance

heres my delema, and its been knawing at me for quire some time. it deals with fantasy characters mostly, but whenever I want to run a fantasy game i want to encourage the use of other races, however I percieve it as being unbalanced in one way or the other depending on how it is implemented. the first way is a package deal, which you pay full price for, which severly limits the non human character, all for what usually amounts to something like 1pip KA claws and dark vison. the other option is for these non humans to just pay the package cost (abilities-disads), which is percieved by the players of humans to be a bad deal for them... any ideas?

Inspired by the Article: Designer Desmenes by Mark A. Hart appearing in Dragon magazine #259 this post/thread seeks just what sort of things we would do in order to take the Hero System and Modify it to build not bases(too small) or planets (might be too large), but nations with advantages and disadvantages, something along the lines of "The Ultimate Nation" (TUN?). If you dont have the article the posts won't do you much good ( or more appropriately shouldn't) for building kingdoms with the Skills and Powers Book. That was the purpose of the article mentioned above. this has a different concept of taking the HERO system and making it work for Nations. Okies …

I have this idea of creating a vampire campaign that I could run my friends through its just that I hardly know what to do for packages. One of my biggest concerns is if I am going to let the PC's be vampires or keep some flavor in the game and make them be humans. So if anyone reads this could you please help me out because most of you guys "know" what your doing. Derek Crow

I've been working on some material for the next round of my Hârn Hero game. I'll be giving some free experience points in specific things to represent some of the personal development that occurs during the period between the end of the last cycle and the beginning of this one. One thing I'd like to do is give the nobles Bases to represent their newly-acquired lands. I realize most people would hand-wave this (as would I, normally) but I'd like to see how it would turn out anyway. So, anybody have any thoughts on how you would go about statting out a fief? (And I'm not willing to wait until The Ultimate Base comes out...)

I'm starting a new campaign. I loosely call it fantasy because it's set in another world. However, there are no supernatural elements here; no dragons, elves, or magic. The world is a "scientific" world because the laws of physics, chemistry, biology, etc. are identical to ours. I had originally suggested including mentalists, but one of my players suggested I exclude them when I told him I had a hard time integrating them into the campaign. Considering this varies from the "normal" fantasy game, how well would you receive it? What would you want to see in it? There's already a lot of swashbuckling swordplay and kung fu. I wanted to add court intrigue, but one o…

Has anyone taken the time to convert George R. R. Martin's "Song of Ice and Fire" aka, "The Game of Thrones," characters into hero? I'm currently running a FH campaign with similar characters in it and I'd like to compare.

Here is the first of my ASOIAF write-ups: Jon Snow, built on 100 Base Points + 100 Disad. Some notes - The Enraged Disad is kinda iffy. I'd say it's more infrequent than Uncommon (it happened only twice in the books, when Jon attacked Alliser Thorne, and later Iron Hemmet), but that is why I gave him an 8- to go, 14- to recover. I paid points for Longclaw. I know Heroic Characters aren't supposed to pay for itens, but the sword is pretty much part of the character's portrait. Jon Snow Val Char Cost 10 STR 0 17 DEX 21 14 CON 8 11 BODY 2 14 INT 4 15 EGO …

I have some fantasy hero characters from some playtesting I did for FH. The characters actually turned out quite good considering I prefer 25+25 games. My wife created a fae that is miniscule with Invisibility to Group Sight Always on. She has little combat she can do now but her ability to help the group is monumental and her comic relief potential is not lacking either. One of the players did an interesting twist. He created a farmer who has minor priest abilities. He can call rain after 6 hours of prayer and he can bless crops. Another player went with a simple archer concept. I created a tavern chef who is extremely good from a crossbow. Nothi…

With the debut of the new Fantasy Hero line imminent in just a few weeks, we're going to be removing the existing FH e-books from the Online Store. This includes the 4th Ed. FH genre book, the FH Companion I, Magic Items, and The Spell Book. We'd initially planned for today to be the last day those products would be available, but we decided to run a "Fourth of July" special and keep 'em available through Friday, July 4. We'll remove them from the Online Store after that -- so if you want 'em, better get 'em while you can! If you have any questions or comments, please post 'em in the "Company Questions" thread on this topic.
