I'm sitting here at work thinking about HERO (because work needs to be avoided right now) ... and since I don't have my rule book on me the thought is really off the top of my head. Instead of HA being +5STR; Only For Hand Attack what if it were redefined to +1D6EB; No Range (assuming that I'm correclty remembering that No Range is also a -1/2 Lim). That would keep it at the same point cost, same AP level and remove the issue of it being something that adds to STR.

I'm trying to make some characters based on L.E. Modesitt Jr's _Adiamante_, particularly the concept known as a "demi". These are biologically and psionically enhanced humans with three distinct classes of abilities: A) The standard super fare of higher characteristics (Think NCM with a maximum of 25 or 30 instead of 20) + linked telepathy to all other demi's + clairsentience + a wide range of skills "Step Up" a temporary dramatic boost to most of the demi's physical stats (something like 2x in Str, Dex, Con, PD, ED, SPD, and STUN; but -not- REC or END). This state is marked by 10x END usage per turn. C) "The Boost" a temporary dramatic boost to any or all of …

First off, thanks for all the Cyberware advice. I'm working on the second major part of my Cyberpunk campaign: Cyberspace. I've decided that the Cyberdeck is going to be "Extra-Dimensional Movement" to Cyberspace. I'm leaning towards the Cowboy's (or Cowgirl's) characteristics being translated as follows: STR: Defined by Avatar program (Base 10) DEX: Defined by Cyberdeck Statistic CON: Defined by Avatar program (Base 10) BODY: Defined by Meat Body INT: Defined by Meat Body EGO: Defined by Meat Body PRE: Defined by Avatar Program (Base 10) COM: Defined by Avatar Program (Base 10) PD: Defined by Avatar Program (Base 10) ED: Defined b…

I have a sword that boosts my strength. I only pay the 5 end, on phases that I use the strength boost. Right? We also have an NPC (that has a very low SPD) with Density increase. Does it only use end on the 3 phases it chooses? What happens if it uses the density increase in phase 4 does it cover it till it's next phase on 8? Also after the first turn if if it has density on at phase 12 is that cover it till it's next phase 4? This is important since the density increase is part of it's PD and ED protection?

I'm designing a character that is quite physically weak, but is a very powerful Telekinetic. One of his abilities is that he can float himself around via his TK (he has Flight of course) and when he does this, he's incredibly agile and quick (high Dex and Spd). However, if he were ever deprived of his TK powers (his Multipower were Drained, Suppressed, Dispelled or Transformed off) then this ability goes away with is powers and he's relegated to a Dex of 7 and SPD of 2. Now the rest of his TK powers will be in a big Multipower (75 point pool) and I was thinking of linking the Dex and Spd bonuses to the Multipower itself, but I'm thinking this normally isn't allowed…

Why is it so? Doesn't one start a leap and end a leap as an action? The leap to me doesn't seem to continue past that point. To me, that says instant. I can understand fly or run being so, since they have accelleration and what not. But also, why would powers that use END be considered Persistant?

In V4 is it possible to have the "To Hit" get easier for each successful Drain? How would you do it?

Minor Magicks: Variable Power Pool (magic), 20 base + 20 control cost, Powers Can Be Changed As A Half-Phase Action (+1/2), No Skill Roll Required (+1); all slots Variable Limitations (requires -1/2 worth of Limitations; -1/4). Real Cost: 40 What I'm looking for are spells to fill this pool. As many as possible. Doesn't matter how overall useful they are, but as long as each would have an actual use, even a friviolous one. Terms of the Variable Limitations. Each spell must have at least -1/2 in Limitations choses from the following: Concentration, Endurance Limitations, Extra Time, Gestures, Incantations, Requires A Skill Roll, Side Effects. Other Limitations m…

I'm working on a new villain, inspired by the Fishbowl Helmet in Gadgets and Gears. Basically, I saw it and laughed, thinking what kind of a whacko would put something like on, hero or villain? And so I made one, and he isn't evena whacko, but I need a name for him. Here's his powers and origin (or what I've got so far): He's a chemist of some sort doing experiments on my worlds version of kryptonite (the Smallville, kryptonite is superpowered snake oil element). He's discovered how to create a vapor form of the mineral that can be inhaled, and when inhaled, it stimulates brain activity. It boosts INT, EGO & PRE and gives some handy telepathic powers (Ego A…

Could someone check 5er, as I do not own it for the following: In 5th there was an option under AVLD that if the defence was a defence the power would normaly be effected by you reduced it down to +3/4 (Example a FF would normaly effect a EB, so if the AVLD was FF's then it was only a +3/4). Is this still in there?

I'm building a character who has 20 STR, 10" Stretching, +4d6 Hand Attack, and 10" Running. If she does a Move By, how exactly is it calculated? Is Stretching velocity technically part of the Move By velocity, and is Hand Attack technically part of Strength? A) (4d6 STR / 2 = 2d6) + 4d6 HA + (2d6 Run) + 3d6+1 Stretching = 11d6+1 (4d6 STR + 4d6 HA / 2 = 4d6) + (2d6 Run) + 3d6+1 Stretching = 9d6+1 C) (4d6 STR / 2 = 2d6) + 4d6 HA + (10" Run + 10" Stretch = 20" = 4d6) = 10d6 D) (4d6 STR + 4d6 HA / 2 = 4d6) + (10" Run + 10" Stretch = 20" = 4d6) = 8d6

if a character with persistent Shapeshift (say Sight/Hearing/Touch, any human shape), with or without addition of Cellular, Smell, and Radio, but no Imitation, uses it to keep up, and jockey between, multiple alternate identities (e.g. mundane, sanctioned superhero, law-breaking vigilante), are the facades unbreakable (i.e. short of dispelling the power, using Telepathy or a sense unaffected by it, or catching the character off-guard, nobody can ever suspect or prove the character isn't all what he seems), or does he need Disguise/Mimicry to make the change "flawless" ?

I got an idea inspired by the Naruto anime to build a character which have the power to control puppets and use them to fight. He isn't controling the puppets with strings or anything like that by with his energy. Ok, so I have decide to give the character Summoning Power with him he summon his puppets. But the next move is more difficult. I could build the puppets as Automaton- like golems and zobies- but automatons act on thier own, and I want the puppets to onlt do want thier master direct them to do. A vehicle, on the other hand, also won't work because the puppets need human-like characteristics. They have ego & int 0 but have all the other characteristi…

I asked the following question in the 'Rules' board and was told that it was illegal. Question: Can an NND be a 'compound NND'? I have an idea for a power that would require the target to have Life Support AND make an Ego roll. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to accomplish the same thing? Thanks MistWing SilverTail

So, as I recall, Fantasy Hero (and other sources) recommended using Long Term End to power some spells and such. But I don't ever recall having seen a specific Limitation with a value for this. Has anyone seen such a thing? If not, what do you think is a good value for replacing the normal End cost of a power with Long Term End (I mean straight off the bat; every time you activate the Power, there goes some End it will take you 5/6 hours or a day to Recover)? Here were my thoughts on the matter: First, I started off wondering if I could base this on the value of a Side Effect that would Drain End and have a fade rate of once every 6 hours. But for a Powe…

I do an 8d6 move through on a target. I roll 24 stun and 8 body. I take half of that. Does that mean that the target actually takes 12 stun and 4 body, and I take the other 12 and 4...? Or the half damage I take, doesn't "come out of" the damage I do? Yes, this is a newbie question, but it's been some time since I've played!

A couple of thoughts crossed my mind while I was pondering grenade write ups... I've always liked the idea of doing a Fragmentation grenade as a: 1/2d6 RKA, AOE radius, non selective, autofire(5) as the basic construct Now on to the questions... #1) autofire is normally doubled for AOE attacks, by the rule that it uses a special attack roll. Would this still apply to Selective and Non selective attacks? #2) Grenades are classicly bought as Charges, for obvious reasons. Autofire attacks consume 1 charge per shot. Can anyone think of a less clumsy way to sim this than Clips (so each grenade takes an action to prepare) of 5 shots each? #3) I don't recall …

Actually it ain't that long at all: I was reading through pages 383 and 425 of 5er (as you do) and I noticed that you are supposed to be spending 1 END to fire a weapon, which I hadn't known. Moreover you are supposed to (if I'm reading it right) spend 1 END in addition to any END for strength to do any non-martial manoeuvre, including, presumably the basic strike. I hadn't known that either (although I was aware you're supposed to spend 1 END to, for instance, dodge.) Mind you, martial manoeuvres don't cost END to use (other than, presumably for STR). Not sure why, but they don't. This could have interesting connotations for automatons who've done as suggested an…

Form 1 has 2 Followers a Base, and a really snazzy car. Form 2 has none. I move from Form 1 to Form 2. What happens to my followers, base and car? Can I still access them? I ask, because this seems an easy way to spend lots of points on extras while still having a full 350pt character for fighting.

I'm building a character (same one as in the Stretching question) who has some time-manipulation powers. One of her abilities is to actually freeze herself in time and exist in the same spot in space but stay in time-stasis until a certain time period has elapsed (which she must decide when she activates the power). I've bought it as Desolidification with a massive Life Support linked. On the Desolid, I've got Concentration 0 DCV and Cannot Pass Through Anything, but how much of a limitation is Can't Actually Move, Do Anything, Or Take Any Action Whatsoever Until Time Period Is Up? Does that merit a -2?

There are two gadgets I've been thinking about and I could use some input from other people I don't have Alien Wars and given the subject matter, it's possible that #2 appears there. But I otherwise don't recall seeing either one in any other book. 1. Welding Torch My first thought was Minor Transform, two separate objects to a single object. The BODY of the weld would be the BODY of the Transform or the BODY of the original material, whichever is less. Or possibly an Entangle, just to stick the objects together. The DEF of the Entangle would be the maximum material DEF you could weld and the Entangle DEF likewise couldn't be greater than the material DEF…

There are a couple of canonical Powers that brought with "Limitations" that actually grant them additional ability that the power uses to be build them doesn't normally have. One example is: Corherent Form pg 230 of the Until Superpowers Database. I was wondering what different opinions are on this sort of thing? Personally, I'm sitting on the fence.
