Iuz the Evil
Okay, so some of you may remember my 2017 work in the Napa Fire Complex. Coffee Park destroyed in Sonoma. Then in 2018 we had the Butte County fires that destroyed Paradise. Now we have us a global pandemic. And just to keep things interesting... Really 2020?! Seriously? Ugh. Here I go again. aylwin13
Mother Nature is truly not happy with all of us... Edited August 21, 2020 by aylwin13 To remove the political line in the post, that sounded much funnier in my head when I was typing it. :(

tkdguy
Stay safe, Iuz. There are fires to my north. The smell of smoke is ever present, and cars have a film of ash over them. I'm glad I can work at home; as it is the smell and the heat made me feel ill today. The electric company is planning a power outage soon
Michael Hopcroft
Are you OK? Sounds like the fires are doing a number on you. Nature is ticked. That's the most likely explanation. Or it could be the forces of natural selection are no longer working in our favor.
Iuz the Evil
I'm good. Response not evacuee. It's my gig and honestly my privilege in public service. I love disaster response. But all at once? C'mon man. Seriously. TrickstaPriest
Old Man
Sorry, I just assumed that California and Australia will spend their summers on fire from now on due to climate change. Does it even qualify as news anymore? Matt the Bruins

Certified
Currently about 4 miles from the San Jose evacuation zone. Just waiting for "the notice." trying to be productive, while checking the fire maps. It's been a fun week.
tkdguy
The air quality has been so bad all week, all the windows are closed. The smell of smoke even crept into the garage, so I had to use the air purifier there. Yesterday evening a sea breeze cleared the air, but the smoke has returned in full force today. It looks like thick fog outside. Amorkca

Iuz the Evil
Starting limited repopulation. The current fire complex is 341k acres. That's a sea of fire. We are at 27% containment. 900+ homes destroyed, multiple fatalities. Parts of Vacaville burned, lots of community loss around Lake Berryessa. Really strong response from Cal Fire and local emergency folks. While concurrently responding to Covid in the Emergency Operations Center. Phew. 2020 is a brutal year. tkdguy
It's almost noon, but it looks like the sun hasn't even come up yet. It looks apocalyptic out there. Here's the story and various images from our local ABC station.
Old Man
Just came from another message board where they were discussing it. “Blade Runner hellscape” is the term that stuck out. Hope you are far from the fires, though I suppose if your house burned to the ground you wouldn’t have to worry about the plumbing any more. tkdguy
There are also fires in Oregon. My aunt has evacuated her home. She's staying with her cousin, who is safely out of the way. Update: My aunt is back at her house, but there's no electricity.

I compared it to the Dawnless Day from LOTR, although I told some folks to pretend we're living on Mars. Some sunlight is filtering through today, so there's more light. However, there's also a lot more smoke in the air. The marine layer keeps it away until the afternoon, then it burns away. I expect to use the air purifier in the garage today. The smell of smoke seems to seep in there, and my cats like to stay in that place during the day.
