has anyone else read the short stories about Mad Amos that Alan Dean Foster wrote? I just finished a collection of short stories about the character, and hes such a colorful western/mountain man character among other things, he would make an interesting character for a western or deadlands style campaign

Hello herophiles! need some help. I might actually "get the band back together" this summer, my gaming group from highschool (my brother, Best friend, his brother, and myself, my wife, my sister in law and maybe even best friends missus) might actually be in town at the same time this summer. Crosses fingers. Anyway, So if we can get together, I want to run a little thing I call the Age of Man. Its a Manga/Superhero adventure set in a parallel earth of "Victorian Fantasy". The Characters are going to be Legacies from Nine great Clans of beasts who banded together near the end of the Age of Faerie to help Humanity survive a threat that the Clans fprsaw happ…

For the Space Wizards setting, some of the major NPCs will be reworkings of already-published NPCs, updated for AD 3500. Some of those I'd like to include are: Cateran Mechanon The Slug Vilsimbra the Dark Elf Viperia Can anyone think of anyone else who might be appropriate? (Especially individuals who would deemphasize the magical aspect of the setting -- the magic itself will give enough of that. I'd like villains and other NPCs who remind the players that this is also a sci-fi setting, not just a fantasy setting in space.) Before anyone suggests Firewing, I've decided to have the GC version die in the Andromeda War, with no replacement. An…

A hero sneaks into an enemy strong hold. As he goes he takes out his katana and begins to slash at the ropes holding up portals, etc. to no obvious effect. But as he leaves (he has good timing) the ropes are suddenly cut and portcullises begin to drop, cutting off his enemies. So any idea of a good name for this maneuver?

Last night, I got myself mousetrapped into agreeing to run an introductory game of D&D 3/3.5 next weekend...and I don't know how to run a truly "starting out" adventure. I'll need to help my three players build first level characters and then send them on an adventure. So, what are effective challenges for first level D&D characters? (That's challenges that won't turn the PCs into bloody mulch in the first round.) How tough are the old stand-by creatures like kobolds, orcs and goblins in D&D 3/3.5? What can I do to challenge the characters without killing any of them -- or boring the experienced gamers? The party will consist of a sorcerer and two fi…

Heroes! MAID ROLE PLAYING GAME! All players are maids who serve and compete to earn the favour of their master, the GM! example character Kamiya: Well, let’s try actually making a character. Hizumi: Ye…yeah (sinking feeling) Kamiya: Since we have a perfect maid right here, Hizumi, I’ll give you another chance. Hizumi: I thought so…of course… Kamiya: Don’t worry, the rules are exclusively for making maids. There will be no bad results. Hizumi: Er…really? Kamiya: Well, character creation results depend on the dice which are strictly fair, so don’t hold any grudges. Hizumi: I will! Kamiya: Ok. Since you agree, let

My players don't look. . . . . . . . . . . . There is a character in Hellsing who can use a magic bullet attack that basically can hit a target multiple times, or multiple targets or even 'chase' someone. It's been used to shoot down supersonic fighters, hitting it multiple times, so it can do alot of damage. It's been using to shoot multiple people standing in the same area. In that case, one of the targets dodged and jumped up to a higher spot but the attack followed him up and finished him off. How would you do this? I've seen the various things on the Omega Effect for Darkseid, which has a certain simularity. But it unerringly follows…

Greeting Herodom, you can all blame Old Man for this Thread. He mentioned that while a Genre Sourcebook would be great for some a Setting Sourcebook would be better for a greater number of Hero Gamers. Check out the Thread here: Post-Apocolyptic Hero http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?p=964339#post964339 What I have in mind is kind of a consensus of prefered Setting for a Post-Apocolyptic Hero Product. Here are a few examples; Aftermath! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aftermath%21 After The Bomb http://www.palladiumbooks.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=503&Category_Code=AB Car Wars http://en.wikip…

Well the PA thread got into the various games out there that could be used for a PA HERO game, then it drifted a little and Recon was mentioned which got me thinking about military Hero games. Since it is an area I am fond of and have alot of the games that have been done I thought I'd start something similar for this genre. Recon (RPG Inc) Recon started as a Vietnam RPG, most of it came as little books like Traveller. Recon rule book (1982), small black book. This is the rule book. Recon supplement 1: Sayaret & Track Commander (1983), small black book. Includes rules for middle east based games, primarily the Arab / Isreali wars. Also includes rules …

There’s a book called Dies The Fire by S.M. Stirling tells the story of people thrust into a post-apocalyptic setting where everything invented after the 17th century just stops working. Needless to say although the premise and setting are interesting it does have some holes in the plotline which I’m sure any good GM should be able to fill up. I was wondering if anyone knew about it and what they thought of the background for gaming.

Pardon me if this is a topic that's already been covered, but I was just wondering if anyone has taken the Xbox video game and converted it into a Hero campaign, possibly based on the Ninja Hero genre book? I think it would make a pretty interesting single-player campaign, with some possible multi-player variations as well. Have there been many video game-to-Hero conversions posted here / on the web?

I'm a big fan of Simon Hawke's Time Wars series. Briefly, it takes place on Earth in the future - a future where time travel is possible. The governments of the future no longer fight wars in their time but rather send soldiers back in time to fight using a formula to see who won. The series revolves around a group of soldiers who are sent back in time to prevent historical paradoxes and then branches out to have them going against the temporal underground (terrorists who want to stop time travel), the Network (a rogue subgroup of the TIA - Temporal Intelligence Agency who use time to further thier own ambitions), and finally an alternate history who have been suffer…

So, here's the deal - I'm currently designing my own game setting, a sort of homebrew thing. The setting could theoretically work with any point-based system (if I ever publish a PDF or, um Gottens willen, a book, it'll have guidlines for multiple systems), but HERO is what I know best and I plan to playtest it in HERO. What I need help with is that rules design has never been my strong suit. What I want is some character templates. In the game itself, players play as AIs who exist in a sort of statless universe, and they use "shares" to create physical bodies to manipulate the physical world. I think you see where I'm going with this. For one thing, what el…

Do any of the present sourcebooks have stats for the old 1500-1600s firearms like Wheel Locks, Flintlocks and Blunderbusseseseseseses? Ultimate Martial Artist has rapiers and cutlasses and the like, but I'm checking to see what's out there before I commit myself to making up stats for the firearms and cannons (and Fantasy HERO should work for the few types of armor that were about in those days).

I did a quick search for ghost in the shell on the forums here, but didn't see anything that stood out. Anyone know of any GITS resources? Not just web-related, but stuff beyond the actual episodes? I'm actually not so much interested in doing a conversion as I am in getting material for brainstorming a similar kind of world. So any resources that feels like GITS would also be appreciated.

Many of you have heard me mention and/or discuss my Kazei 5 setting. It is a 4th Edition campaign setting that DOJ sells as a PDF. Currently, I have been working on expanding and updating it to 5th Edition with the plan of eventually releasing it (hopefully through DOJ) sometime in the future. That said, I received Steve Long's okay to post material to the boards that isn't found in the K5 PDF. Now, I don't plan to post a lot of material (if any), but I do want to try and develop the setting past/future history to a reasonably level. So, I am posting the timeline I developed at one point for the setting. This timeline is not an absolute, I realize it lists somewhat t…
