This is for a necromancer in an adventure I am working on... Anyone have a scientific opinion on whether or not a Human Windpipe (with voicebox) could ACTUALLy be carved into a flute- assuming the right preservation techniques? Or is it just not physically possible? I know it is creepy enough, but is it lame in terms of realism? I avoid any study of anatomy outside of transparencies. It makes my steak and other meals less enjoyable.

I was privately asked about music recommendations for a Regency-flavored game. I thought others might be interested, so I'm posing here. There are lots of great sources of mood music -- period music, film soundtracks, and inspired-by types of music. I mix my classical music collection up to Beethoven (chronologically) in with soundtracks and country dance music. Naturally enough, I have a Regency Mood Music playlist for my iPod, and as a courtesy am attaching a text file with this message. -Shelley

I love eBay. I just won an 1896 World Almanac for very little money. It would have been little more than pocket change had some people not come in toward the end and attempted to steal my prize away, but I foiled 'em. Great VH research material is on the way. And I got a set of 1921 World Book Encyclopedias from the same seller for even less!

Having missed most of the episodes when they were first shown here in England (late 1990s) I've only recently had the opportunity to watch Sliders from the beginning. Mind you, I'll be abandoning it at the end of season two, because I've heard nothing good about it beyond that point, and they got rid of John Rhys-Davies. All besides the point, however. I've been looking at ways to run a cross-dimensional campaign (which is why I picked up the Sliders DVDs), possibly with HERO, so I have been wondering how best to model the timer. As seen in the show, after the pilot episode, the timer is randomised and not tuned to send the sliders back to the world they just left. S…

Back when Bruce was still LE, I wrote in a suggestion for a series of books that I wanted to write. The line would be the War HERO line, and cover major conflicts in the modern era... Civil War HERO, WWI HERO, WWII HERO, Vietnam HERO, etc..... I see it is as a huge gaping hole in the HERO rules at this point, and one that would have a huge fan base. How many people play minitures battles and recreations right now? and HERO is just detailed enough to really offer a great foundation for vehicular battles and small arms combat, while still being playable. I have always found it to be a nice system to balance the munchkin aspect of miniature battles and the smooth flow o…

I have this dim recollection of an old TV show, I was wondering if anyone could help me out with it. It was kinda this post apocalyptic TV series, where the main characters had this very large All Terrain Vehicle they drove around in. That's what I remember best, the ATV. This thing had like six or eight wheels, white, kinda a modular looking design, and I think it articulated in the middle. Not sure about that, though. The cast would move around to different areas in this ATV, so it was kind of a Wagon Train, Star Trek take off. I think there were four cast members. One boy, one woman, and two men. I think they also had some buggies for extra vehicles the…

Last night I had to run another one-shot game for our group since our current GM had gotten boned on his work schedule and was unable to attend. Due to his being absent on Saturday night several other players took the oporturniy to do other things as well. As a result we had a grand total of only four people (myself, Kevin, Audie and Chris). I chose to run a game using the Twilight of the Dead rules. I recommend this website and setting it is very well done. Twilight of the Dead is a Hero System setting based upon the Zombie movies of George A. Romero. Since we only had three players I allowed the characters to be built on 50 points with up to 50 additional poi…

Okay, you might have seen my Gunmage or Champion, or what have you. I've decided to try to put together a supherheroic fantasy campaign for my close friends they next time we get to game together. I have a while to put this thing together and I am going to cheat a bit by using the existing CU as the basis for my Fantasy World. With a few tweaks I think it will be pretty easy. Here is the first guy I fiddled with, simply because I like the challenge. I'll post them but, if DOJ decides that its not cool I'll take them down. Here is Sir James Harmon the IV, Grand Defender of the City of Millenia.DefenderVal**Char**Cost**Roll**Notes55****STR*****10******20-****Lift 51.2tons; 1…

Those of you who have wanted to write up your favorite anime characters for HERO now have a new place to post them. I have just launched Anime for HERO: a Wiki on RPG.net's Wiki server where you can post all kinds of anime-related things. the rules, such as they are, are right on the front page.

a Modern Fantasy or a SuperHero Fantasy game at all? I know, most of you might be scratching your heads at what I am meaning, so I'll explain. Modern Fantasy, or more like Shadowrun, in a way. Something set at least to current technology levels or beyond (into Star Hero levels) but also incorporated the aspects of Fantasy, like Wizards, Dragons, Elves, Orcs, Magic, etc. Fantasy Hero meets Star Hero. SuperHero Fantasy is something I'm not sure of even being the correct title for what I am thinking, but comes off as the easiest to understand. Inspired by such things as InuYasha, Exalted RPG, and such, the game would be all the makings of a classic Fantasy setting,…

The Stand was one of my favorite books, and I always thought the setting would make for great roleplaying material. Lots of great elements there, since it is our world with 99% of the people dead, everything broken down and a master villain extra-dimensional wizard who was basically an allegory of satan. Not your typical PAH game, but very cool. This would also be one of the few roleplaying settings where you could actually play yourself and have it make sense and be fun. Then, I started thinking about how you would run the game. Combat would be exceedingly rare, and actually having skills that applied to what you were trying to do would be pretty rare too. …

I am running a one-off adventure starring Jack Burton of Big Trouble in Little China, Ash of Evil Dead II, Shawn of Shawn of the Dead, Jay and Silent Bob from Mallrats, and either Christopher Walken or Tom Jones as himself. Any write-ups out there?

I've seen a few folks say some good things about this book http://www.warehouse23.com/item.html?id=SJG6505 and seeing as how The Ultimate Vehicle is MIA in print and pdf I was wondering how useful people thought this book is. I've got Transhuman Space by the same author and it has some decent design rules, for the limited setting, in it. I'm more of a fan of 'pick your component' vehicle design like Battletech/Heavy Gear, but using HERO to work 'backwards' from the end effects means it might be helpful to have alot of info to draw from. It might be easier to build vehicle components from the GURPS examples than to pull them from thin air. I'd like to end…

So, Dark Horse has begun publishing translations of the original Vampire Hunter D novels in English and I picked up the second one. The first novel is the one the old movie is based on, so although I liked the movie, I passed on it. The second novel is another story unrelated to either movie, which is why I decided to try it instead. Not finished it yet, but I do have a few thoughts on it: Whoever translated it wasn't a very good writer: D's lines sound like they're being uttered by a 16 year old gamer and not a centuries old enigmatic Dhampir. The style is also a little clunky, I've read a large number of translated works and this guy needed a proofreader/polis…

Almost a year to the day the first Kazei 5 PBEM shut down, it looks like it is starting back up again. And so, I find myself asking around to see if anyone would be interested in participating. Well? Information can be found here: http://k5pbem.devermore.net/k5PBEM.html (site is being revised, so be patient) As for the game itself, in a nutshell it takes place in an anime-cyberpunk future circa 2039. There are replicants, cyborgs, cybernetic, datarunners, mecha, hardsuits, and esper weapons. The game uses the HERO System as a base, and the 4th Edition Kazei 5 campaign setting. Turns are every 6 weeks, and play is 100% player driven -- in fact it is n…

Does anybody remember that game? No? Oh, well XD I was watching the Dawn of the Dead remake the other day, and I found myself thinking, "Some of these guys are doing alright. I bet if they had Martial Dodge, the zombies wouldn't be able to touch them." So, Herodom assembled, what do you think about zombie plagues as a roleplaying genre?

I know it will be a nightmare to find players- all of my regulars laughed at the idea... Bunnies & Burrows The Beastiary would cover a lot- but would you 'scale' the characteristics? The rest of it would work pretty well and be simple to convert... especially from GURPS. (Although I would kill for even a PDF of the FGU version.) The big question is scale for things like STR, damage, etc. Also- anyone interested in playing? (besides Keyes_bill? kidding)
