Strictly a narrative based pbem, no gaming system for this one. Emphasis on character development & role play. Based on the reopening of Department H, players are raw recruits for the entry level Gamma Flight team. Somewhat darker, grittier, more cynical tone than the classic AF series, though there is plenty of room for idealism and virtue, also. See here for more info: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/gammaflightrpg/ E-mail brianshaffner@earthlink.net with any questions, or to shoot me a character proposal.

Yeng Tao temple has existed in almost complete secrecy for 1000s of thousands of years. Behind its ancients walls and on its vast training grounds some of most powerful warriors of the martial world have honed their craft to perfection. Its libaries hold stores of estoretic marital arts wisdom like the world has never seen. Fighting styles that no longer exist anywhere else can be found among its scrolls and libaries. The monks themselves maintain a strict neutrality in regards to the affrairs of the outside world. Anyone of sufficent skill and honor can come to the Temple and learn regardless of nationality, ethnic background or gender (though being from Imperial China t…

I considered popping this into the Champions Section, but, well, it covers any gencre that's been a comic book. I ran across the The Comics Magazine Association of America Original Code for Editorial Matter As Published in 1954 in the course of surfing today, and it's a fun read. I'm half tempted to put together a CCA approved module for a con now, or maybe a challenge module with "how many of these guidlines can you break in one session..." Let's see, last nights session violated... B-3 All lurid, unsavory, gruesome illustrations shall be eliminated. (we have an artist in the group. His sketched could easily be classified as "lurid") B-5 Scenes …

I've been watching the anime alot lately, trying to adapt elements of it to a game I'll be running in the near future. A fast search for websites didn't really show me anything RPG wise though. Has anyone seen a a website where the anime is statted out for gaming? Thanks.

Obviously with FH on our heels, someone (besides me) has thought of this. But I'm looking for imput. One of the things I always liked about SR was the essence system. For those that aren't familar, a character starts with 6 essence points. A mage/shaman has a Magic stat equal to their essence. (Ex. if you have a 6 in magic you can cast up to force 6 spells... force being an indicator of power level Healing-1, healing-2 etc.). Conversely, radical invasive surgery (specfically the addition of cyber and bioware enhacements) reduce the amount of essence (and as a result magic). This keeps a Mage from having a crap-ton of bio/cyberware. How would one handle this…

On Halloween, 2007, a small group of desperate people, drawn together from diverse backgrounds, fought the final battle to save the world from a greatest occult threat ever conceived: an occult ritual decades in planning and years in development intended to free a monstrously powerful entity into our world. the last stages played before the eyes of an unknowing world, acted out as part of so called “dare shows†they their contestants to isolated locales and had them perform bizarre stunts; each one another step in a vastly complicated ritual that slowly weakened the barriers between our reality and realms of unrelenting horror. A ritual that had to be witnessed and a…

I have a basic question? How would the minds of herodom do the Lens? Is it a VPP, An EC or MP? The reason I am asking is that I might in the near future do a Character or game based on the Lensman Books.

I'm just curious What you guys think... My first exposure to Cyberpunk was the 4th edition version of Cyber Hero. That was how it all began, really. To be honest, I found it quite disturbing at first. Then I started to look at it with curiosity. Later, I bought Shadowrun. Cyberpunk with Magic. Meh. Recently, I purchased Cyberpunk 2020, the second edition of the ORIGINAL Cyberpunk game. Now, Cyberpunk is a pretty grim genre. And admittedly, grim is not really my expertise, but from the game books, I feel a bit of an intrest in the genre. So I've got a question: What do you think it would take to do a parody of Cyberpunk? Examine your fa…

Hey guys! I recently aquired a copy of Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children and of course, it has inspired me to do a JRPG-style campaign. This will be set in an original world, however much of the background material is taken straight from Final Fantasy as well as other popular Japanese RPG's. What I want to concentrate on right now are Limit Breaks. For those of you who don't know the games, Limit Breaks are the Player Characters Special Moves with their weapons or abilities. They are not the same as spells, but act more like Super Powers. Limit Breaks have been a core part of the Final Fantasy games for decades now, though they have been called by…

This was darting around in my brain the last two days (watched Advent Children AGAIN) and ... It's an unholy union of FFVII's Mega corporations and their private armies, FFXIII's "Gardens", with a dash of Xenosaga, D&D, Marvel's New Mutants, Harry Potter, and Suikoden thrown in. Three campaign ideas as well. Campaign One: The Academy This is where talented but young characters grow and develop into the warriors they will be. Campaign Two: Post Graduate: Tour of Duty This is where the newly graduated, still young adventurers work off their tuition advances by working as trouble shooting teams for one of the megacorps that fund the Academy Ca…

I have caught this twice, by chance, on the Sci-Fi channel. Has anybody else seen it? In the opening episode the main character woke-up in Seattle Washington. He has no memory of who he is, where he came from, etc. He had no ID on him when he woke-up. However you can ask him a question and he'll know the answer. Show him something and he'll know exactly what it is. For instance when looking at a door he was able to instantly recall the brand and model of the lock, how many of that model were made, where it was made and how to pick it. He essentially has an encylopedic knowledge of everything. If mankind knows it, he knows it. Which of course means that if it is curre…

It's Halloween, and the GM for your group (whether this be you or another) has decided to show those smug, effete WoD players that you and your group can roleplay their socks off. So, tonight is a special one-shot crossover of Wraith, their favorite setting, but using your HERO rules. The GM of your group has a surprise card to play, though, and when the game is only halfway through, reveals it - in Wraith, there is a sort of psychic attack called the Harrowing, a mini-Vision-quest which presents the character with an impossible choice to prevent further damage or even Oblivion (death). But in the WoD system, this is mercifully abstracted to a mere roll of the dice - and …

El Santo: Blue Demon: Mil Mascaras AS... Superman: Batman: Flash Frank Sinatra: Dean Martin: Sammy Davis Jr. Beatles: Rolling Stones: The Who John Wayne: Clint Eastwood: James Coburn (?- I'm still working on this one...) Eisenhower: MacArthur: Patton Aragorn: Gimli: Legolas Groucho: Chico: Harpo Athos: Porthos: Aramis (sort of- Mil certainly isn't very religious.) Any others? Kirk: Spock: McCoy doesn't work, 'cause Blue Demon is way too emotion-driven and dark to be Spock, and McCoy doesn't dress well enough. dw

I saw the Fringeworthy Hero threads, and I love that idea. But I cant find my copy, and I cant remember how the Ring gates are set up. I mean, how do they lay them out? I remember a diagram in one of the books but I dont remember the text.

I'm posting this in other genres as it isn't really a fantasy question persay. What should be a good percentage of military to civilian ratio for a country that consists of a single, isolated city? The military would mostly be for law enforcement but would have occasional outside aggressors that would be little more than large raiding parties. In case it helps, the weapons provided to the military consists of mostly swords, spears, axes, and crossbows. Crossbows are restricted to special forces due to limited resources.

In my spare time I am trying to update my old Fringeworthy Hero stuff. Here is my stab at the Least Mellor converted to Hero System. As I get around to it I will post other versions of the Mellor and the Package Deals that I worked up for IDET and a few other things that I did. This is the weakest of the Mellor, there are at least eight other versions. Comments and constructive criticism are welcome. On the old boards, someone wanted to know the background behind the lady warrior gracing the cover of Ninja Hero and the sequence of illustrations in Ultimate Martial Artist. Storn admitted that he really had no idea beyond her appearance. After some brainstorming after a name (I think we settled on Whispering Silk), Mike Surbrook mentioned that he would probably give her a write-up somewhere. Anything ever come of that?

The Infinite Worlds thread prompted me to dust off my old Fringeworthy Hero stuff. This made me ponder a question that came up during that campaign, a question for which I never did research an answer. One of the problems using fringegates (think stargates) is that any electrically charged item (battery) that passes through one is instantly discharged. The published setting handled this with various means of recharging these dead batteries once the team got to the other side. (Solar panals, hand cranked chargers, small rope-started generators, etc.) One of the players said that an easier solution would be to use liquid electrolite batteries. Once you arrive on the ot…

Hi folks, Long time since I have been on the forums, but I am trying to get back into HERO, and thought I would work towards a GI JOE campaign. I'm sure somebody has worked up some HERO stuff for G.I. JOE (VIPER practically screams Cobra), and I was wondering if anyone had links to any conversion write ups ? Thanks.

Greetings HEROphiles, I am glad your here for another Review. This time I am tackling the Asian Bestiary II. First off I will admit to being a Fan of Asian Culture, History, and Myth so please excuse the Fan Boy-ish stuff. Art: (4 out of 5) The front Cover Art is EXCELLENT and really captures the theme well. Nice to see DOJ is responding to HGFM's comments. The back Cover Art is minimal, but maintains the feel I think the book was aiming for. The Interior Art is also good. It is nice to see so much of it laid out so well. Nice job everyone. Layout: (4 out of 5) As I commented on another Thread I thing replacing Background with Ecology was brilliant. It is ea…
