Okay, this is now the first (and hopefully one of few) thread of me asking for help putting together some ideas for an anime martial arts campaign. First, I should say that it is not an Anime campaign by Ninja Hero's definition... at least not at first. Don't think Dragon Ball here, think Inu Yasha, Ranma, and maybe some Naruto (haven't seen enough of Naruto to know if the feel is what I want). The feel I'm going for is slightly unrealistic at the start, gradually growing more "impossible" as time goes on. There will be some "real world" consequences to actions, but in a lot of cases this stuff's been going on "around here" for a while, and people have gotten accusto…

Comments are welcome. I'm trying to see if there is anything I'm missing or any obvious questions I'm leavcing unanswered before handing this out to my group. “It’s just like the world we live in – except the creatures of the night – vampires, werewolves, zombies and such – are not the stuff of legend. They are here and now. We co-exist with them, not always happily, not always peacefully.” – Anita Blake The Campaign World: July 2005, The Helsing Institute in San Angelo, CA, in a world very much like the normal world. Except the supernatural exists. It has always existed. Ancient cave paintings show dragons. Ancient religions often worshipped vampires…

I was curious how some other experts out there would put an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) into game terms?

I just had a thought,no an idea. Has anyone considered doing anime and manga heroes in the Hero system? Any input would be welcome.

Basic question. If someone wants to carry around a sword sheathed but not have it noticed by people until drawn, what would be the power for this? Change Environ to effect perception rolls? Invise with limitations? This is for a wuxia level game.

For some time (way too long ) I've been attempting to work out an acceptable (ie: one that I could expect most any GM to ok for use) version of the martial art described in a memory sequence in the novel "Logans Run" by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson. The technique is refered to as Omnite. The sensai in the text comments (as I recall) that "there are no single actions...", that " everything leads to the next movement"..... Back in the day of Danger International I figured I'd use Combination Manuver as a basepoint for the system, with that skill/move allowing for basically two different attacks as the same movement (at lea…

I'm think of pitching a post-apoc gam at my players but when we talked about post-apoc in the past they felt the genre was knee deep in cliches. At least when it came to how the world ends. Then I remembered I have a copy of Cadillacs & Dinosaurs from GDW and I wanted to know what kind of resources would be helpful, like conversion stuff from GDW (I think they did Dark Conspiracy and Twilight 2000). I've got all the fifth Ed books even remotely relevant to this. My only real problem is that I never read that many issues of C&D, or Xenezoic Tales either. And input would be most welcome. BTW, does anybody know if the C&D cartoon had been p…

Has anybody ever done any work on making up the marines, weapons and monsters from Doom for Hero System? Long ago I made some of it up and we played a game or two but now all that data has disappeared. I may have to come up with a one-shot game for our group tomorrow night (Nov. 12th) and this is one of the things I am toying with.

Just how big is a "large shuriken?" I am talking about the ones listed in the UMA and the Equipment Guide. As written-up these things do as much damage as some bows. For that matter how big are the "normal shuriken?" I have been googling around some without much success. Lots of pictures, lots of shuriken but no definitive statements about size in inches.

In the "An A-team for the 21st Century" thread http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37722 kiethcurtis says I offered the opinion that, in effect, the source material had no place to go but up. Which gave me an idea. I put this under "other genres" because this will allow us to role-play directors and producers. You challenge, should you decide to accept it, is to take the worst TV series or movie you can think of, and "re-envision" it so that it was good. I'll start. Punked. In my re-envisioned version, every episode ends with the guest star/victim kicking the crap out of Ashton Krutchner. While the staff stands by and laugh…

FU SCHTICKS FOR CHAMPIONS Wild Martial Arts Powers Derived From The Pages Of Feng Shui Way back when Magic: The Gathering was first released, a number of other companies were quick to recognize the financial opportunities evident in the realm of collectible card games (i.e. CCGs). One such company was Dædalus Entertainment with their CCG offering of Shadowfist, a riotous attempt to simulate the high-energy action evident in the world of Hong Kong cinema. It blended together ancient martial arts masters, modern Hong Kong Triad gangsters and police officers, spell-tossing sorcerers, supernatural monsters, and bizarre near-future cyborgs in a secret war for world…

Sure, Ryu can throw a fireball, but Dhalsim can teleport! I am looking for some neato keen Martial Arts abilities to throw at a Street Fighter style martial arts campaign. Also, just to be sure, what do you think are the "classic" antagonists in a Fighting Game storyline? Criminal Organization... Other Dimensional Entity... All Powerful Megacorporation... Secret Society... Ninja Clan... Crime Family... Sorcerer from the past... Obsessed "Warrior"... Demonic Entity... ...out to rule the world!

I finally got my hands on the fansubs of this series, which got some fairly good press. It looks like it has some interesting hooks for a game -- and, on the other hand, a few serious moral problems with the premise. It's the story of a girl named Mai. we meet her and her brother (who suffers from a serious heart condition) on a ferry to their new school, a boarding school called the Fuuka Academy. we see her looking up at a red star that nobody else appears to see, but her borther does not think she's hallucinating. However, he in turn sees something that everyone sees -- a girl floating face down in the ocean. The girl is pulled out of nthe water, dressed in a…

Working on a campaign using the Warhammer 40K Universe. Right now the characters are a squad of Imperial Guard Catachans. Their assigned to Black Company of the Catachan 128th. 129th gets the worst assignments and Black Company gets the worst of them. Still working on getting everything fleshed out as we go. Have had to rework the weapons a couple times. Trying to get the "feel" of 40K, but payable at the same time. An ongoing process to say the least, but we having a good time.

Hi Chaps, I'm currently trying to get my head around Hero 5th (hard!), and if I manage it I'm likely to want to buy some supplements. This leads to a couple of questions: (a) I have a 1990 vintage first printing Ninja Hero. Can anyone tell me how different the current edition is? ( What is the difference in content between Ninja Hero and The Ultimate Martial Artist? TIA! Matt.

Doing my long threatened Rifts conversion to Hero and stated out a Glitter Boy PA and it came out to final cost of 382 points. I have decided to use DC resource pools and with the starting 10 points for vehicles, it requires 382/5=77-10= 67 points. At 2 Vehicle Points for every CP, that equals 34 Character Points for the points needed for the vehicle pool to buy a GB. Is this way too easy or what?

This new series on the WB seems to be a pretty decent basis for a Dark Champions campaign about monster hunting. Anyone else watched it? The two main characters seem like about 50+50 Competent Normal types, but I may be underestimating them.

So I've decided to do some conversions for Pinnacle's classic Deadlands: HOE series. For the most part, it's pretty simple, but some of the Arcane Powers are kind of difficult to figure out how to convert without getting too complicated. The most difficult to figure out would be the Templar Rewards. Just wondering, how would you treat a Templar's ability to throw his sword as if it were a regular knife (or something along those lines)? There is no actual transformation, the sword just becomes balanced for throwing and more accurate.

One thing anyone who watches a lot of anime gains is an apprecition for the infoluence of Shinto, the former Japanese state religion and one of the two main relgiions practiced in that country, on the stories that come over. The heroic demon-hunting miko has become a very popular character in games and videos alike, shrines are popular places to have things happen in, etc. The beliefs of Shinto are a powerful infleunce on people like Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away is a very Shinto film) and other manga artists and animation writers. What i am wondering is whether there are concepts from this very Japanese view of the world that translate well into other genres. Such a…

New news from the Post-Apocalypse RPG front 1 2

According to a Timeline Inc. release flyer posted on The Supply Bunker web- site, a new, 4th Edition of The Morrow Project is due out sometime before year's end (2nd Quarter 2004 is what's mentioned on the flyer). The flyer also mentioned that this new edition would feature a revised timeline as well as adding some new equipment for Morrow teams (I'd guess that that would also include weapons that didn't exist at the time of the original game's publication). Just thought I'd pass this bit of news along, considering that Post-Apocalypse games/campaigns appear to be one of the more popular topics to pop up on the boards from time to time, and the fact t…
