I havn't seen Lady In The Water yet but from his other movies, The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, and the Village, does anybody else see potential for a campaign set in the world of M. Night Shamalayn? You've got, Psychic powers, Low Level Powers, Aliens, what is basically a cult, and I'm assuming Lady In The Water has monsters.

This is something I took from the local "advertizing supplement," which has the occasional article of interest. This is from local history. I've removed references to this particular locale to make it more "generic." I've also changed the names of the two people named in the original. It runs 94KB, so I'm only putting in a link, rather than the entire picture. I hope this is useful to some of you. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a88/Mapaholic/StanStmr.jpg

Hello everyone, I've just been thinking about converting a campaign idea I had originally written for d20 Modern (since I couldn't find any people to play Hero with me at the time) to Hero. Mechanics aren't hard, so I'm not asking about that... though ideas on that are interestingly different are good. Now, this isn't happening anytime soon since the two groups I'm involved in are currently supers games (one Champions, one Heroes Unlimited, not too keen on the 2nd one... ) with the Champions group having mostly "usually the GM" types playing. I'm content and happy to just play in their games as they come up since everyone in the group seems to have a fair bit of…

I've been reading Dan Simmons' Trojen-War-based sci fi opus Olympus, which inspired me to go back and look at the Iliad. It occurs to me that that a generally Homeric setting could make for a great game -- very larger than life characters, levels of violence that are off the scale, gods intervening in daily life at the drop of a hat, and other such good stuff. Has anyone ever done something like this? Achilles has GOT to be built on at least 600 points. Christopher, Son of Robert, Fleet-Footed Mankiller

I am going to be running a new game soon. One of my only problems is figuring out how to model an effect of the game. I'm using the plot-mechanism where the Mechs are based on alien tech adopted by earth. PC's have control of their biomechs due to a very rare genetic marker, hence the need to use relatively young and inexperienced pilots rather than professional soldiers. Also the abilities inherent within the technology is not clearly understood by anyone. What I need help with is how would you write up/model capabilities/powers that the PC's do not know exist? Or better yet how would you trigger the new capabilities manifistation? I'd like something a little …

Getting into the Equipment chapter in Space Wizards, I'm wondering what people would prefer when it comes to bows and firearms. With the loss of much technology (on some worlds more than others), some parts of society have returned to these modes of weapons. Also, a few traveling adventurers (potentially including PCs) prefer them for one reason or another. I'm wondering what approach people would advise and prefer for the Equipment chapter on this topic. Right now I have some general discussions, and referrals to appropriate books (FH, DC, and HSEG). I'm kind of leaning toward including a few samples for people who don't happen to have those books, possibly …

I decided that I was going to play HERO, and that my second favorite genre -- post-apocalyptic science fantasy goodness -- was going to be where it is at. This thread will detail my trials and tribulations as I attempt to piece together a campaign and force it on my poor players. I look forward to comments and suggestions on how to get the most out of the HERO system in this. I recently watched the SciFi Channel's solitary episode of The Amazing Screw-On Head, and I gotta tell ya... it was excellent. It's based on a comic of the same name by Mike Mignola, the guy who gave us Hellboy. If you go to this link (http://www.scifi.com/amazingscrewonhead/), you can watch the entire episode online. I highly recommend it. SciFi Channel is running a viewer poll to determine if more animated episodes should be made. I voted yes, of course. This could be used as a source for both Steampunk and Horror! And, it's funny as hell!

For a while I have been working on a role playing game of my own that's something of a modernized Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Now, I have much of the system handled for it, thanks to OGL and the Action! System, but I am concerned about the setting work. But then it occured to me... Maybe I can use a game on HERO Central to get help from players interested in the kind of setting involved and have them help through gameplay and campaign discussion. It won't be the A!S version, but HERO can do it, right? Does it make sense to run a game with one system when it's being written for another?

The following is inspired by an epidose of Scary True Stories. It is a collection of ghost stories told in Japan. While not as scary as Ringu or other bigger budget Japanese movies unless you put yourself in the frame of mind tha ghost do exist. It is thiugh interesting based on the cultural aspects. I would recommend it to any who is interested in some true ghost stories from Japan. Also important to note that the tales here were filmed in the early 1990's even before Ringu was made. In AdamLeisemann's thread, people have posted various "bad" movie title crosses, more for the shock of a bad juxtaposition than anything else. I want to play with that a little. Here's a list, broken down by poster, or what was on the thread as of 9pm PST July 11. Here's the idea. For each movie title listed, or at least for the ones that grab you, see if you can make a reasonable (for a given value of reasonable) pitch for what such a movie would be like, and why I should be interested enough in it to go see it. First up, BobGreenwade. How about Call of Cthulhu by Andrew Lloyd Webber? The Godfather of La Mancha My Fair Matrix The Road to Oz (think Ho…

This thread is intended as a just-for-fun mental challenge of applying unusual character types in a particulat genre. In this case: A horror Speedster. In the Horror genre, the most important ability is the ability to get out! Create a 50 point competent normal on the theme of speed. No Experience points allowed, because you are creating a starting character. Follow the Competent Normal Guidelines in FREd. There are no wrong answers. Have fun.

I am starting work on my High Plains Hero campaign...which is going to be my setting for Western Hero. I am planning on setting the game in Texas (a few years prior to attack on The Alamo). I am also trying to capture the "Gritty Western" feel of such movies as Catlow, A Fistful Of Dollars, etc. What I am looking for is any information for the Hero System, or for that matter historical information (especially website-based) and such to aid me in the work I am trying to do. I have access to the following "gaming materials" right now... Western Hero GURPS: Old West Boot Hill RPG (by TSR) Any additional help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance…

2027: Japan's crime rate has risen by 1700%. Unable to hold all those who need to be separated from society, the metropolitan area of Tokyo has been walled shut and turned into the largest Maximum Security Prison in human history. The rules are simple: Once you are in, you don't get out. Ever. Inside the city, there are no guards -- only prisoners and the worlds they have made. It seems the perfect solution -- until a freak terrorist action strands the Prime Minister of Japan within the city, holding in his posession an electronic document that is key to the future survival of the human race. Four notorisous, ultra-violent and iconclastic convicts are …

In the genre products pages, Horror HERO is listed as having a "late 2006" release date. However, on the 2006/2007 release pages, Horror HERO doesn't appear anywhere. Does anybody know if this has been pushed back/cancelled/other'ed'? I have a particular affinity for the genre books (and the Ultimate series) and am thoroughly looking forward to next year's Post-Apocalyptic HERO. Cyber HERO and Western HERO are tops on my list, too Back on topic! Any word on Horror HERO's release?

I'm working on a Western-ish setting that I'm calling Steel Sky, when I have enough of it done I plan to post what I've got for all to see. I've been working on it for about two weeks now and I have run into a problem. I don't know much about firearms, especially those used in the late 1800s. If anyone of you out there has write ups for guns I could use or you know of a good site with write ups I'd be very grateful!

and no I do not mean Image Comics, get your minds out of the gutter... Anyway I have been trying to find an image of a Biau Dau (Dart Knife) mentioned on page 182 of UMA and have had no luck. Anybody happens to know what this thing looks like or can provide an image. All the passage in UMA states is that it is oddly shaped.
