  1. One thing I've noticed about Hero is that there is a culture of treating the rules as absolute. It doesn't have the same tradition of, "hacking" that FATE (for example) has. Many of the ideas in the APGs could be used to customize campaigns, but they rarely make it into anything published. (I think that The Widening Gyre uses the heroic lift table from APG1, but I'm not aware of any others.)
  2. There are several non-exclusive ways this can be handled. "Only When Following Deity's Wishes" is a typical Limitation for clerical spells. It's usually -1/2, but that can be adjusted. "Must Stay In Deity's Favor" might be more limiting, maybe -3/4 or even -1. Balancing this might be tricky, as you don't want the character to receive a large Limitation for something that might not come up, or, conversely, a small Limitation for something that routinely impairs the character. The second way is, as you suspected, a Physical Complication. This scales better than you might think. A character with only a few spells will be Barely Impaired (+0) if he loses them. A character that relies on spells might be Slightly (+5) or even Greatly Impaired (+10) when they lose all of them. Don't worry too much about scaling the Complication to the power level of the campaign. The third way is to have the character take a Psychological Complication involving their faith. It makes sense that a fickle deity would only grant spells to those with the greatest faith.
  3. I don't have an active Champions campaign. The last game I played in was around 16DC and the last one I ran was 6-8DC.
  4. I did something like this for the experimental 175-pt version of Carver (telekinetic surfer dude). He could fly fast, fly at average speeds and have a good defense, or hover, have a good defense and throw stuff around. Despite all his variable slots, he only really had 3-4 options.
  5. There's not much market for a 1d6-1 RKA, 10 charges, 11- Activation w/ Burnout.
  6. I don't see anything wrong with a narrative approach, but Hero isn't designed for it. I'd probably use Fate if I was playing a narrative game, instead of trying to adapt Hero.
  7. I think this is a bad idea because it hides the complexity of Limitations. "Laser Pistol (-2)" sounds simpler than, "OAF (-1), 6 Charges (-3/4), Beam (-1/4)," but it doesn't tell you what the restrictions actually are. Players might also want similar powers with different Limitations, and then the GM has to keep track of, "Tom's Laser Pistol (-1)," "Dick's Laser Pistol (-2)," and "Harry's Laser Pistol (which is different from Tom's) (-1)."
  8. There's nothing in the rules that prevents you from buying a few CSLs/PSLs and calling it a martial art. It's even suggested as an option in the martial arts sourcebooks. It can even be cheaper, since you aren't bound by the 10-point minimum cost of a martial art.
  9. APG1 has a bunch of ideas for adapting Enraged/Berserk to other conditions.
  10. Hey, I like the Smithsonian. Pity about its neighbors, though.
  11. Thank you for the links. I'd lost my copy of the elements in a hard drive crash.
  12. Considering that I'd probably get caught in the blast wave, I'm going to make sure your afterlife involves you mating with an Ewok and raising a family of them.
  13. Most of it could be covered with Acrobatics. Adding, "Usable As Leaping" to Running should handle the rest.
  14. To me, this looks like a Multiple Disarm with TK (or other suitable power).
  15. "Remember this: there is no more important safety rule than to wear these - safety glasses."
  16. The flip side of this is when authors/gamers have an alien race do something weird or nonsensical simply because they're aliens. There should be a logic behind it, if only from the aliens' perspective.
  17. You can't be old. You're younger than I am, and I'm only middle-aged.
  18. I think that 6th has my favorite mechanics, but I have a lot of nostalgic love for the BBB and general support that 4e had.
  19. I think the term you are looking for is, "wearing a wire." Sure, no problem. Use a Bugging roll to make sure you get good sound/video and a Concealment roll to keep it hidden.
  20. My boss is putting on a safety vest. He's having a bit of trouble. Boss: How does this look? Me: It's slimming.
  21. "I have literally had this dream at least a dozen times."
