I have to admit that I enjoy comics, but don't follow them closely. I read Death of Superman (sucked!), and wondered... WTF? It seemed that Doomsday couldn't fly, he jumped around everywhere. That alone seems like a lethal weakness - why didn't any superhero blast him straight up & continue through the atmosphere all the way to the sun? Is there some history I'm missing about Doomsday? I think he appeared earlier, but have no clue what was shown about him. As I read Death of Superman (sucked!), I just kept wondering .... WTF?

A recent thread discussed quantum powers. I dug up this character, based on "quantum" powers, and thought I'd let Herodom's elite chew on it. I haven't posted a character before, so forgive any html goofiness. BUT, I'm counting on HD2.0 (great product!) to save me. The game setting was weird - background was a xenophobic spacefaring race went on a killing spree, and the heros were the survivors of various planets. "Civilization" is some uber-highly developed species that watches over the universe in its spare time; it's a little mysterious. The heros eventually end up someplace weird, where they don't know the geography, races, rules, ... nothing. A bunch of disadvan…

I still can't get the power creation examples down. I have followed the champions book power examples but some of them I can't follow ---I get a different point cost. I think the one I got wrong was the one about a sonic flash. It had a power PLUS another. I added it up differently. Could someone please give me some step by step power creation examples? Some that I could follow and duplicate (strictly for learning). Thanks in advanced.

Well tonight will be our second ever time playing Champs. Just like the first night, tonight's session is going to be roleplay light (in fact I'm thinking of just making RP non-existent) and more of an opportunity to familiarize ourselves with the system in action. Everyone should be playing their own PC's this time so that we can see how they work in action and if they need tweeking. So my plan for the evening is just 4 different combat scenarios to help them learn the system while helping me to see how point totals stack up to their characters as well as how they stand up to certain archetypes. That being said here is how I want to breakdown the combats: Co…

Greetings, I have been gradually introducing an NPC in my Champions/Star Hero game that is a lot like JR Ewing from the old Dallas TV show. I places his Business skill at 20 (which, is probably too high, but his ability in business is meant to be 'legendary'). Any tips from anyone that might have a memory of this very memorable TV character from the 1980s? Thanks in advance for any help!!! Polaris

Edit again: scratch that, this is #25. Two major villains in the campaign city have had a long-standing bitter rivalry, each trying to destroy the other at every encounter. This time things are really heating up as villain A kidnaps villain B's DNPC love interrest and publically threatens to harm her if he doesn't face him in a final showdown atop the tallest building in the city. As you and your teammates arrive at the site, villain A threatens to hurt the girl if you interfere, forcing you to back off and watch from a distance. Then villain B shows up, and he looks understandably pissed off. They have the obligatory exchange of banter, ending with villain A making …

Superhero Showdown#1: Dr. Fate v. Dr. Strange 1 2

I have always wondered what would happen if these two had to fight. Dr. Fate, Kent Nelson in his civilian idenity, is can practically do anything with his magic. However, the source of his powers is Nabu's helmet. He has to have it on. Dr. Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme, does not rely on just one magical item. Even without his cloak and amulet, he can cast spells. I would have to give this one to Dr. Strange. I have seen him take on and defeat villains far more powerful than him. Yes, Dr. Fate is far more powerful than Dr. Strange, but he isn't as smart. I hope that others who are more familar with there characters will post their opinions.

Superhero Showdown #2: Super-Man v. Wonder-Man

Super-Man, aka Clark Kent, has powers based on his absorption of solar energy. We all know his super powers, and his super weakness. Wonder-Man, aka Simon Willians, has powers based on ionic energy. He is basically an energy being encased in flesh. He is as strong as the Hulk, he can fly, and he can shoot ionic blasts from his eyes (I have seen him do it in a comic). I know many will disagree with me, but this one ends in a draw. Based on my understanding of Super-Man's powers, there isn't anything he can do to actually hurt Wonder-Man. The same goes for Wonder-Man, who has fewer powers. They would have a terrific brawl, but ultimately neither man would …

A common theme in Superhero comics and cartoons is the Energy Blast tug-o-war. Where two energy blasters EB attacks connection in mid air. The battle then kinda becomes a tug of war where the energy blaster try to get their energy blast to overwhelm their opponents. Two things can happen: 1. One person blaster overwhelms their opponent. 2. The nexus of the two blasts causes a massive explosion. How would you handle this in Champions. Mike

Ok, here is the situation. In a month or so I shall begin my first Champions Campaign. This is my first use of the full blown Hero System (I've previously used only the playtest Sidekick rules). The characters are using 300 points base + 150 points disadvantages. There will be two groups, one of Supervillains (4 players) and one of Superheroes (5 players). Both of the groups have to build a base and vehicles from their points, but the Supervillains each get to pick 3-4 free Henchmen that will be about 250 points with disadvantages each. Some of those evil henchmen will have goons under them in turn (like the ninja school for example). The Supervillains …

Okay, I just thought of this. It's such total blatant munchkin-fu that it's hilarious. Plus, a GM might actually let it through, if they get caught off-gaurd. Did anyone else see The Justice Laegue this weekend? They had the Joker, and showed the origin of the Royal Flush gang. I was really disapointed. Now let me explain - The whole "Joker takes over Las Vagas" was good. And while the "Supes/GL/Flash all fight the henchmen while Bats figures out how to beat the master villain" is a tad overused, is is a classic. And how Bats tricked Harley Quinn into giving up the Joker's lair (just ONCE I'd like to see Harley rack the Joker right in the nads...), and then how Bats got the NPC super villain to turn on the Joker, THAT was all OK. The thing I didn't like was the set up of the Royal Flush gang. They're suppos…

Hi all! Im trying to get a Champs game off the ground and Ive been using the FRed, Until SPD, CkC, and the UMA. While these give me a lot of material to work with, my biggest obstacle seems to be players new to the Superhero Genre and Hero in general. Character Generation is quite a hurdle to say the least. I was wondering if anyone who owns the Champions Genre book could comment on how this book might help me and any other benifits before a decide to shell out my hard earned Skrod. Thanx Lonnie

I've been designing a 'theme-based' superteam recently, and I've decided use the Project: Sunburst material from the gamebooks. You might be aware that was a secret government project involving military personnel used as guinea pigs with nuclear power. A couple villains have come from its origins. My idea is that the secret base where the personnel who are still living (all in comas) has recently been moved to Millenium City. However, the weird energies produced have now been detected by Dr. Silverback. In brief, he investigates and the secret is blown wide open. In the ensuing chaos, seven new superhumans awake (or possibly, Dr. Silverback is able to awaken th…

Hi All, I've just completed work on revamping Worldwatch's resident aerial artist, The Aviator. I wanted to thank all those who contributed wisdom on how to structure his weak heart disad. I think the end result expresses more or less what I had in mind. As per usual any feedback or questions would be appreciated. Vigil

... I've been reading Shields of Justice, Criminal Intent and Matthews GenTech, for Silver Age Sentinels. There's quite a bit of good, generic superhero stuff in there. For an enterprising GM, there's some decent tactical thinking in GenTech on what kind of villain powers will challenge heroes. Criminal Intent has good tips on memorable and successful villains. Shields of Justice is on heroes and heroic motivations.
