Can anyone here tell me whether or not there is a big difference between 4th and 5th ed Champions? What has changed? Are the changes significant? Better? Worse? Would converting 4th ed characters over to 5th be much of a chore? Just trying to get a little feedback before I decide to purchase the new books. Any replies are appreciated, thanks.

I have a character who has a mystical based power that causes anyone who attacks him from behind to make an immediate 4D6 unluck roll. currently its bought as 4D6 Unluck, usable on others as an attack with no conscious control. or would it be bought as a damage shield with a trigger? any ideas. the character is a gypsy heritage acrobat/aerialist Martial Artist named Eight Ball and yes the "Behind the Eight Ball" pun was done on purpose

I was glancing at the list of super heroes in the CU in the Free stuff section, when I noticed something. There's no Scarlet Archer. I thought, after the last one retired with a resturant chain (See Millennium City for details) surely someone had picked it up. But nay. Twould seem the name drifts about unused. Of course, Millennium City itself is full of names just itching to be reused, though one couldn't blame folks for being shy. After all, Ocelot,Vigil, Shadowboxer and many others fell in the Battle of Detroit. A new Scarlet Shield would have a lot to contend with no doubt. Still, names like this are just itching to be used. Frankly, I wonder if…

Yes, I know it wouldnt be the first with animal based powers. But I doubt this creature has been used before. The animal is the waterbear. It is a microscopic little "critter" that is the ultimate survivalist. In fact on the Animal Channel on "the Most Extreme" it was #1 on extreme survivalist. some of its abilities - can take 1000 times the dose of radiation a human can.(our favorite the roach can only make a go at 200 times) - survive in temperatures between 151- (-)272 (celsius) - survive in a simulated vacuum of space - one case where a dried up piece of moss in a museum had water put on it and some hibernating waterbears sp…

So, I have this idea for a character. And the idea is this: Joe found out at a young age that he wasn't normal. More intelligent, stronger, and less prone to injury than his peers, he quickly realised that he was the kind of stock superheroes were made from. His parents strong teachings on morality and ethics only reinforced his ideas, and by the time Joe started school, donning the spandex was already his life time dream. Up until age 8, though, it stayed as just that - a dream. Something he assumed would happen sometime, and he might as well get on with his life while he was waiting. Then, mere days after his 8th birthday, Joe discovered his parents were the s…

This whole thing started out as one character that existed in my head for a couple of years, but was never codified because I wasn't running an appropriate game at the time. I saw the picture associated with the character, and something clicked, and I had to get her written down. That was back in the days of 4thEd and I was still using HeroMaker. Now, as I recreate War Angel in HeroDesigner, the details of her backstory are coming into focus, and that background contains many other interesting characters (at least, I think they are). WARNING: This thread may offend the religious or spiritual sensibilities of some readers. You've been warned.

The title pretty much says it all. I'm just looking for your ideas and your favored methods for turning a group of individual heroes into a super teams. Just to be clear I am not looking for the best method, but methods you've use over the years to get them there. I already have the two classics: 1. 4-5 heroes happen to respond to the same robbery and work well together. (Defenders, Avengers, etc.) 2. The story starts from the premise of them being a super teams. (Fantastic Four, X-Men, etc.) I'm sure there are more and some creative variations on these two themes. So bring them on.

To simplify the current game world - imagine your standard high power (350pt) campaign with the color somewhere close to the Justice League cartoon. Would anyone care to share some ideas for a power armor characters - power armor? Help!

And if so, what happens when they stop being activated? It came to mind when I was imagining someone projecting a mental energy self in a little different way than the Astral Body write up in the FREd sidebar. I was thinking limititations Nonpersistent and Requires Concentration Throughout and then wondered if that's legal, or even practical...

I thought I was going a little overboard when I created War Angel at 570 points. I keep seeing NPCs posted here that exceed that total by a large margin. The 4thEd Viperia is 999 points. Is Professor Muerte really supposed to be close to 1200 points? If that's the case, how many points was the official Dr Destroyer? Is my idea of what's an epic superhuman character just set way too low? (In case it isn't obvious, the games I was in were set in non-CU settings.)

Hi all. I'm currently working on a character for an online game. We did sort of a random draw for character archtypes and I got the brick, which is cool cause I've never run one before. So anyway, I've got an idea and I was looking for some help in pulling it off. I figured I'd base an aspect of him off the Hulk. Specifically that he gets more powerful as he gets angrier until he becomes uncontrollable. My plan is to buy him basic brick stats and defenses, and along with that he has two disads, Enraged: When innocent people are harmed, go 11-, recover 8- Beserk: When people close to him are killed, go 14-, recover 8- Now my plan was to buy him ex…

In other words, how "kid safe" are they supposed to be? What's acceptable, and what's clearly not? Just to be clear, I don't ask because I want to swear up a blue streak, or start posting superhero dirty stories, or anything of the sort. It's just that a couple of the NPCs I'm thinking of posting have rather unsavory personalities, and I want to strike a balance between saying what I mean to say, and saying too much. I worry about something I posted regarding Crimson, and I don't want to become known as someone posting for shock value or without decency.

Note: Not a poll. I defy my addiction... for now I've heard a lot of discussion about CVKs and such in the past, and I once even put up a poll for your favorite character motivation. However, I was wondering what Pyschological limitations do you almost always find yourself getting for your characters(if any) and why? Near as I can tell, the most popular ones are: Code Vs Killing: Or some variation, life is precious to most super hero genres. It comes in degrees, moderate to total, but most players seem to think this is almost obvious. Protective of Innocents: Another big one, almost synonamous with being a hero. Overconfident: More popular with off…

I've seen in a couple of other posts people referring to "Genre Convention #xxx" and "Cliche #xxx." I was wondering what genre conventions/cliches people think are absolutely important to running a successful game. For example: Genre Convention/Cliche # 1 Any mask, no matter how small, will conceal the identity of the wearer from everyone, even family and friends intimately familiar with the wearer. Others?

Warning ... this may be a very long and hallucinatory post. For those of you who have run other supers games (Marvel, DC, GURPS, Silver Age Sentinels) as well as HERO, have you ever wanted to 'port' over a villain team that you created from that game to a new Champions game, because you and your players liked it? When I was running a MSH game (the SAGA system, which really was better than most folks give it credit for IMNSHO), I stole something from the old boards here (I think), and created the PokeSpawn ... basically, a couple of kids had found a book that summoned the kinds of spirits that animate golems, and these demons inhabited their Pokemon action figure…

I thought I would start this thread, since we seem to be getting a lot of people new to Hero on these boards. While many of us can remember Grond from 3rd edition, and regard hims as classic, ne players/GMs may simply see a modified "Hulk". Here are some guidelines I use: 1) Who is the Bad? A big decision to make when you start, is who is going to be the big bad? Who is going to fight your players on a regular basis? Myself, I prefer to have the players fight the minor league villains at first, while the Big villains operate in the background, usually against NPC teams. don't spend to much time developing your first master villain...the players will usually smash h…

Hey All, I just completed a redrafting of my Worldwatch strongman, Job Hatchet and wanted to get you're feedback. I'll fill in some of his background for you but would appreciate any critque which you may have. Job is an extradimensional alien (I seem to have alot of those running around, it's like the Mexican border or something) from the world of Kulthea. He is one of a tribe of savage desert nomads/barbarians. As a child and young man he served as ashepherd for his people before beingplaced in charge of training and taming the tribe's servant animals (which are almost all hybrid creatures like chimera, manticores and griffins, etc). As an adult he…

First some background: Toymaker is a gadgeteer and a major outfitter for both heroes and villians in the campaign city. Other than the fact that he won't sell anything significantly lethal to someone who is obviously psycho, he plays no favorites and will not leak anyone's secret identity (he doesn't even ask, it's bad for business). The senerio: Toymaker has approached you and several other supers in the area for help. He explains that a plucky young woman with a large sum of cash and aspirations to be a superheroine hired him to build her a suit of powered armor. He built the suit and had her trying it on as he was making some important adjustments to the ne…

I've been a Hero Games fan since 2e. Got it for my birthday the year it came out and played it for years. Now, to my question. I haven't played in years, but I'm getting interested in playing again. Are the new rules truly that much better? Why are they better? I know this is probably a tough question, but thanks in advance for any responses. -David

I'm creating a new character for a campaign that is starting up and the only qualifier that has been given is that it must be a scientist. I would like to create a scientist that has a unigue field of study. Does anybody have any suggestions?
