As I hope you've all seen (and bought!) by now, we've got a couple of new Hero Plus Adventures for Pulp Hero in the Online Store. I'm currently putting the finishing touches on an HPA for Champions (The Dragon Mandarin) and will soon be working on a couple more for PH. Since none of my ideas immediately leap out and cry "Me! Me! Write me first!" to me right now, I figured I'd see if any of them were of particularly strong interest to Herodom Assembled, or if y'all had any other ideas for adventures you'd like to see. So, here's what's on my idea list: The Locomotive Pirates: A crimebusting adventure that pits the heroes against a gang that robs moving trains in …

I'll buy the book and probably enjoy reading it and wishing to play a game of Pulp Hero but I doubt that I will ever get a chance to play it. Our RPG group plays Hero System most of the time. DC and FH are our usual fare but we also venture into Champions, SH and other genre from time to time. The problem is that I am the only one of us that seem to have any interest in that particular era. The group seems to have a dead-spot in history that none of them are interested in. This seems to extend from the dawn of firearms until the modern era. Anything before or after this time period is pretty much enjoyed by the whole group. Alas I majored in history in college and wo…

I trust most of us here have read in Champs Universe way back when about the Empire Club, the Victorian/Pulp-era 'gentleman's club' who's members stopped criminal masterminds, explored the world, and fought the early version of such groups as VIPER and DEMON. My question is, do any of you have any ideas on just who (using both the real world and fictional people) might belong to the Club? (note: I'd like to avoid characters who've been beaten to death, like Doc Savage or ol' Sherlock. They're good characters, yes, but I'm looking for some of the lesser-known heroes.) In the CU, Professor Challenger, Ned Land, and Axel Lindenbrock are listed -- myself, I can't help bu…

hanging on a wall in the restroom of a local food establishment was an ad for International Trucks "Jungle Yachts" from 1938... I managed to scrounge up a few scans of the ad when I got home... http://www.paper-dragon.com/1939/images/jungleyachtadv.jpg EDIT: Aquired a better scan!

I found a really informative website dealing with the early versions of the Thompson Submachine Gun. M1921A and M1921AC in particular. If you are as much a stickler for detail as I am its got some great information. Tommy Gun Site.

Admittedly this is not going to be directly useful to your pulp game, but... ... I just started a new job working for Barbour (the waxed jacket company) and discovered that we sell yak hair sweaters! And they're called Superyak! Life just keeps getting better.

In 1976, Universal gifted its entire run of Newreels, from 1929 to 1967 to the National Archive, placing them in the public Domain. Archive.org has them all available for free download at http://www.archive.org/details/universal_newsreels. If you have broadband (or a lot of patience) you could play an appropriate reel right before a game of Pulp Hero to give a real air of authenticity. Take a look; it's pretty cool! I have looked through the Pulp Hero book but I failed to find a suggested list of Everyman skills for US in the 1920s/1930s. I imagine that such a list would not be too different from a modern everyman skill list though. Has anybody worked up their own Pulp Hero Everyman skill list that they would be willing to share?

Hi folks, I picked up a great resource today at Barnes and Noble that you all might be interested in. The book is titled Vintage Cars and it is part of the Five-View series from Motorbooks. The editor is Craig Cheetham and it pretty much covers the 20s and 30s with the odd 40s car thrown in for good measure. The ISBN is 0-7603-2307-0. Enjoy.

I'm pretty sure someone on this board brought this up once, but I've been unable to find it, so here it is (again?). In 1933, Hungarian composer Reszo Seress wrote a song called "Gloomy Sunday", which, supposedly, became linked with a number of suicides over the years. By the mid-30s, the song had been translated into English and brought to America. http://www.qsl.net/w5www/gloomy.html Was the suicide-inducing nature of the song intentional? Was it some odd sort of psychological weapon? Or maybe a medium of sacrifice to some Jazz Age Demon-God? MP3s of the song are available here and there on the internet. The Billie Holliday version would be best …

what are people's opinions of the pulp hero cover? I myself am fairly disappointed at the logo for the line, and the art for the cover. you look at how gorgeous original pulp covers still are, and other suppliments, and the covers looks unprofessional at worst and below standard at best

Are the upcoming sourcebooks on pulp villains and locales going to be set in the "official" past of the Heroverse, as portrayed in the Champions and Dark Champions product lines, or will they be independent??

If people are looking for pictures of daring aviatrixes for their campaigns, they might want to check out women's fashion magazines at the moment. Ralph Lauren is currently doing an advertising campaign featuring lots of leather aviator helmets and flight jackets. Well worth checkingout. Cheers Alistair

Well, its new for me at least... I have run many Dark Champions games in the past. Vigilante games where the players are normals, or have only minor paranormal powers. One of the problems I have encountered is the dizzying plethora of modern combat equipment and armor. Modern battle armor can drastically reduce the threat of a generic street thug with a pistol. With the advent of Pulp Hero I am thinking of running another Vigilante campaign but this time I will base it in the Pulp era (roaring twenties). I think that this will help matters a lot. The Tommy gun, BAR and Colt .45 will be about the baddest weapons around. And body armor... what body armor? That gen…

So, pulp buffs, what films have you run across, either period or modern, that you think are worth watching for pulp gaming purposes? To save you some time, here's the PH draft filmography as of 04/01/2005: FILMOGRAPHY The movie industry was in one of its heydays in the pulp era, giving GMs and players plenty of period films they can watch to get a feel for things (though many of those old movies aren’t available on VHS or DVD, or are rare). Rather than try to list all of them, this Filmography lists a few classics, concentrating instead on modern films and television shows depicting pulp adventures that the author particularly enjoys or thinks would…
