A friend loaned me this, I didn't even know it existed! After the dreck that followed the fun original, it was a great surprise. Set in iirc 1889, it is a little early for true pulp, but it has a lot of fun stuff. Let's just say that it could EASILY be a monster hunting adventure. Oh, and how can any gamer NOT like a movie with a PUNT GUN in it?? :eg:

This may have been posted before (perhaps in one of QM's "Resources" posts), but in case it hasn't I thought I'd bring it to Herodom's attention. While looking for cool Pulp miniatures for my PH campaign, I came across this useful page, which sort of "catalogs" other pages/lines of figures appropriate for Pulp games: http://wk.frothersunite.com/sc/pulp/Pulpsc.htm

Someone has started a Pulp One Shots (The Flood of 1927) thread on RPG.net. This idea started me thinking about a Christian Slater movie, Hard Rain, and I posted some ideas there... here's my post: A good flood is the proper stage for some awesome pulp action! Just to give you some ideas, you should look at the movie Hard Rain (with Christian Slater, Morgan Freeman, Minnie Driver), which can give you some good ideas for staging combats and action. You've got: A crew of bad guys who stage a armored car robbery during the worst storm of the century Heros caught in the middle of the storm, raging bad guys, and people needing saving... An armored car f…

A hypothetical situation... Let's say your best friend has won (by random chance) the opportunity to compete in a lucrative RPG contest, with a $50,000 prize provided by a rich eccentric gamer. The contest involves a group of gamers playing in a pulp adventure, and the prize will be awarded to the gamer who best captures the flavor, spirit, and tone of the pulps in his or her roleplaying. Trouble is, your friend knows nothing about pulp! And there's only a few days before the contest, so he or she only has a very limited time to get up to speed. Given all this, what five "pieces" would you recommend to your friend that best capture the feel of the genre, …

Apologies if this link has been mentioned before (I searched the forum, but found nothing). The NAGSSociety website listed a terrific link this week and it's so appropriate for a pulp campaign that I thought you might like to point your mice in that direction: http://www.dself.dsl.pipex.com/MUSEUM/museum.htm The rocket-propelled bicycles initially caught my attention, but I suggest having a look at the Monowheels page. I know what's going to be showing up in my game very shortly...

http://cpt-space.livejournal.com/ I know this is technically sci-fi and so might be better posted in the Star Hero forum; but it has a very pulpy 1930's-style feel like Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers serials, right down to evil aliens and a hero with a Code vs Killing. Besides, I don't play Star Hero.

Just finished Batman / Tarzan: Claws of the Catwoman. It’s a fairly good comic featuring a Pulp style Batman teamed with everyone’s favorite Lord of the Jungle. Good characterization of Greystoke here, better than you usually find in comics and pastiches. Some nice Pulp takes on Catwoman and Harvey Dent, and a fair illustration of how much of a disadvantage Code versus Killing can be for a Pulp-era hero. It’s a bit of a thin story, and doesn’t have quite the twists and cliff hangers that make for great serial style entertainment, but it’s worth reading if you’re interested in finding ways to reverse engineer modern Super characters into a Pulp adventure.

I was wondering how you’d work one up. I am going to try and do one, but I’d like to see how others would do it. Something else to consider, this can be either a true plup workup, or a modern take on one. Doing one in the classical manner and also in the manner of Grayheart Silver.

Greetings, pulpsters! I'm doing the preliminary planning for one of our upcoming Pulp Hero supplements, Thrilling Places, with the author and we wanted to get your input! Basically, this is a book of thrilling and intriguing locations for characters to have adventures, learn new skills, meet cool NPCs, and so on. Here's the blurb: So, with that in mind, what sort of locations would you like to see in this book? As you think of and make suggestions, please also try to suggest ways that each location could be made interesting and useful to players as well as GMs. What can we include that would make the locations, and thus the book, interesting t…

Yes, thanks to the magic of podcasting, I have been enjoying "Decoder Ring Theater", featuring an amusing riff on old time radio shows. The Red Panda is your typical masked crimefighter, a wealthy young man who just happens to be an expert hypnotist, superior martial artist and brilliant inventor. He operates in pre-War Toronto, a remarkably crime-ridden city. In later episodes, he picks up a sidekick, Flying Squirrel, who has Gliding and Enraged. They flirt a lot.

Apparently, this is poster/concept art for an unmade Hammer film in the same vein as The Land That Time Forgot. Needless to say, if this doesn't scream "pulp action" I don't know what does... Enjoy!

U.S.Planned Canada Invasion -- in 1930 WASHINGTON, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Jokes aside, the United States does indeed have a bold war plan for attacking Canada -- only thing is, it`s almost 76 years old. The Washington Post says the plan is a 94-page document that was approved by the War Department in 1930, a blueprint for battle that includes a step-by-step plan to invade, seize and annex The United States` neighbor to the north. First, according to the plan, the U.S. military sends a joint Army-Navy overseas force to capture Halifax, cutting the Canadians off from their British allies. Then forces would seize Canadian power plants near Niagara Falls, so the Cana…

(a great intro for a Pulp Adventure if there ever was one - note, not the original headline) SHANGHAI, China (AP) - China has temporarily closed parts of a nature reserve that attracts scores of people each year hunting for evidence of an ape-like Bigfoot creature, a park official said Tuesday. Sections of Shennongjia Nature Reserve will remain closed for at least three months to allow its natural attractions to recover from the wear and tear of visitors, said Wang Yong, an official from the park's tourism bureau. "During this period, we are going to do some research on how to improve the attraction of Shennongjia," said Wang. Proposals included a possible …

On the web, you can now buy your very own Hypnodisk, with which, theory holds, you can: How do you model a Hypnodisk in Pulp HERO? And how difficult is it to make the mailroom guy quack like a duck? Would other duck-like behavhior be more difficult to invoke ("It's October, Smithers -- time to fly south! Go! Out the window! GO!")?

What a great movie! Depression-era New York and Skull Island are so beautifully realized, you'll be yearning for pulp adventure long before you leave the theatre... I'm not sure what part of Kong's expressions are motion capture from Andy Sirkis, and what's computer generated, but Kong seems to emote as much as any of the other actors. Makes the end all the sadder. Like Sky Captain, Kong is a period action flick with great effects. Unlike Sky Captain, Kong has good writing, directing, acting, and dialogue. So go out! See it now! This I command!!!

a soundtrack for a Pulp game... while working on my Dirty 30s page, I became reacquainted with swing music, and specifically neo-swing, which was a short lived genre back in the early 90s, here are just a few of the bit of music we use while playing pulp (these are used in a urban setting) NeoSwing - bands: Alien Fashion Show Asleep at the Wheel (Texas Swing) The Atomic Fireballs Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Brian Setzer Orchestra Cherry Poppin' Daddies Duke Heitger and His Swing Band Electric Swing Honey Drippers Karista and the Speak Easy Spies Royal Crown Revue Squirrel Nut Zippers Taco (Specifically, the LP Swing Classics) Zoot Suit Revue …

Well I have been checking out some write-ups of both the Shadow and The Spider as well as some of their allies and villians. But I haven't been able to find anything on Doctor Clark Savage. I realize it may be difficult since he is mister can do everything but cook, but I cannot imagine that the possessors of such mighty Hero-Fu could come up with something by now. So any takers? Do you have the moxie?

Going back to school it's easier to organize an occassional board game night as opposed to a more full time RPG group. Does anyone know of any Pulp Era style board or card games that are out there?
