The ideas just keep itching... DER SCHNITZLEHAUS Background: Helmut Grubermann, like many patriotic German men of the time, volunteered his services to the military during the Great War. But an accident during training severed his left leg below the knee, and he was given a medical discharge before even learning how to march properly. Stuck on the home front, he worked hard at the brewery and took an interest in economics. After the war, Helmut realized that the punitive terms of the armistice would mean hard times ahead for Germany, and arranged for he, his wife, and their young sons to emigrate to America. They faced some discrimination in the United …

Hi! I'm looking for fierce, independent female heroes from the late 1930's-early 1940's from fiction and/or real life. People like Lois Lane, Marion Ravenwood (From Raiders of the Lost Ark), Amelia Earhart, and others. Does anyone have any ideas?

Since y'all like these. MARSH'S DRUG STORE History: Marsh's was originally Grimmon's Drug back when it was founded in 1883 by Elihu Grimmon. He ran the store until 1903, when he retired and sold it to Emmett Marsh, who'd been working there for several years. Over the years, Emmett slightly updated the store's look and inventory, and ingratiated himself to the neighborhood. In the late 1920s, the store began to falter due to Emmett's poor business sense, and he was forced to make his son Edgar a full partner. Edgar has put Marsh's on a sound business footing and modernized the place. Thus, the drug store has thus far weathered the Depression quite well,…

I though you all might enjoy this. It seems that some pulp loving authors have brought back classic pulp novels under their own publishing company, Hard Case Crime publishing. Besides being a great way to get your hands on old pulp stories, they are now bringing out a series of new, exclusive books. First up: Stephen King. Pretty cool.

http://www.americanparknetwork.com/parkinfo/ru/history/carve.html A history of the Mount Rushmore project. The most pulpish elements are the 1925 fleeing of the sculptor just ahead of the law, and the secret vault he created behind the monument.

I'm currently working on HPA #12, Inner-Earth, but since it's a relatively long and involved one I thought I'd take a break to create a shorter HPA that can go in the store before I leave for U-Con later this week. So, for a mere $3 'Murrican, you can get your eager hands on: Curse Of The Vulture-God: When a colleague of theirs uncovers a new clue leading to the undisturbed tomb of a pharaoh, the heroes find themselves plunged into the middle of a millennia-old scheme to unleash an ancient, imprisoned evil. When their efforts to resolve the crisis only make things worse, they have to race against time to destroy the newly-arisen priest of the evil vulture-god, Ehbek…

I'm building a Pulp charcter to be Shadowesque in nature. I'm thinking that Cloak of Illusion as my main power, then accuracy or some kind of combat awareness. I don't have a lot of pts to work with (75/75), and this is my first character in this system. So I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance for your help.

History: Kathleen Gillicuddy came to the United States from Ireland sometime before the turn of the century, though exactly when would be rude to ask. She spent some time as a washerwoman before meeting Isaac Jones, a promising young man who was starting his own construction firm. They were soon married, and Kathleen settled down to keeping the house and raising the children. And it was quite a house to keep, as Isaac had built it himself to accomodate a family of ten. Shortly after the birth of the Jones' sixth child, Isaac was killed in a construction accident. To Kathleen's dismay, she learned that the construction firm was nearly dry of funds due to some bad…

Background: When he was a lad, John "Sig" Sigmundson ran off to sea. He spent many years as a sailor, each voyage he hoped bringing him closer to the fortune he'd read about in adventure books. Finally, he and his shipmates found a buried pirate treasure. After it was all divided up, Sig was still not a rich man. You'd have been hard-pressed to call him well-off. But it was still more money than he'd ever had at one time before, and likely as much money as he'd ever have. So Sig retired from the sea and returned to his hometown. As it happened, the owner of a way station that had originally served coaches and carriages on the way West was retiring, and was wi…

This cartoon series is more modern in setting (well, the 60s), but it definitely has a pulp feel. They dealt with creatures created from science gone mad, arch-villains with nefarious plots and deadly cultists as they traveled the world. Here are some links I found in my search of the Hero boards: Pulp TV Shows Doctor J.A. Quest

Cannibals! Okay, so the whole show won’t fit, but on the History Channel tonight (October 20) at 9:00pm EST is a 2hr special on Cannibals. I figured I pass it along; some of the information might be useful for an explorer based campaign, or possible a cult campaign… Also on at midnight on the 21st… http://www.historychannel.com/

Hey everyone, I got an unusual idea for a pulp character, and I just spent the past couple of hours writing him up. His name is Tommy "Spyder" Collins, a young gadgeteer with Cerebral Palsy, who invents a backpack with special abilities. His palsy mostly affects his legs, so he overcomes his disadvantage with the backpack. I took it upon myself to take the Gadgeteering VPP, but I reduced it and built the backpack as a vehicle. I hope everyone likes it... Tommy would probably work nicely as a sidekick. I don't know if I would play him as a character or not... I'm serious! Just think about it! Here we have a plucky inventor and his dog sidekick. Together they journey to the moon, nab a criminal mastermind, fight a marauding robot, and hunt down and capture a horrible werebeast. All perfect pulp story lines. And most of Wallace's inventions are fairly outlandish Rube Goldberg machines (of a sort) that involve a lot of pump, hydraulics, gears, and electricity. He's built a space ship, a super-vacuum, a mind-transference device, altered his car to operate in various environments, and even built a primitive exoskeleton! Tell me he's not a Pulp-Era inventor!

Long, long before Star Wars and the Jedi, there were the Lensmen. Now that Pulp Hero is out, has anyone used it to help set up a Lensman-style pulp sci-fi campaign?

Anime seems to have stylistic similarites to Pulp, which I noticed after watching Read or Die. I was thinking retro-style shows like Steam Detectives or maybe Nadia mainly fit in here. What other shows would you put in the Pulp category when it comes to style?
